  1. re: the other thread, The CAM sensor was new, not the Crank sensor! It is a Walbro in tank pump, and when 'IT' happens, I can't normally hear the pump prime. I know when it's about to start again, because when I turn the key the pump starts priming, although it can take a couple of further goes/mins to start after the pump initially priming. Am I right in thinking that the ECU sends a signal to the fuel pump relay before it sends one to the Crank sensor? How do the two interact so that if the Crank sensor is duff, the pump doesn't prime? If there is sufficient pressure in the fuel rail, do you always need the pump to prime in order for the car to fire up? I would imagine there would be residual fuel in the injectors/ fuel rail to restart the car immediately after dying. Thanks for the help so far :) ---------- Post added at 04:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:18 PM ---------- I just went and disconnected the Crank sensor, and tried to start the car,I heard the fuel pump prime and there was a ticking from a relay, and obviously the car cranked, but didn't fire. Hmmm, I don't wanna splash 110 on a new sensor if it's not gonna fix it!

    Car no starty

I thought that was a Knock Sensor? Isn't the Crank sensor on the side of the head at the end of the rear cam?
  3. Dang, the crank sensor was brand new 18 months ago. Is there a way to test it?
  4. I've posted about this a few times before but it seems to be getting more random. My car completely died today 3 times on the way to work. Once going round a large roundabout it cut out completely while still on the throttle, it restarted after 10 mins. 2nd time I was slowing for a toll bridge and it started stuttering a bit, lifting my foot to 'jump' start it while still at about 20mph didn't really work (as it normally should). It restarted after 25 mins, I left it idling for a couple of mins to check everything was ok and it just died, and would not restart. By this time my dad had arrived as I had a meeting I needed to get to, so I left it until lunchtime. Just picked it up and it was fine on the drive home. There's no kind of pattern to when it will do this, it's done it randomly through spring, summer and now autumn. Most relays and other parts on the car have been changed, so I'm guessing it's either an earth issue, or the battery is goosed? Is there anyone around Oxford who is good with tracking down electrical problems, I really don't trust any garages to track this down properly without costing me an arm and a leg.
  5. We also have the oldest Coffee house in all of England!
  6. An E39 M5, Z4M Coupe or V8 S4/RS4 are so tempting!!!! E39 M5s are pretty cheap now too (to purchase at least!)
  7. Just ticked over 160,000 yesterday! Still running like a dream and putting a grin on my face daily :)
  8. I go away for a few days and all miss all this fun! Boost, if you need access to a lowered VR to take any measurements I'm back in Central Oxford now (Iffley Rd so just down the road from your bro/car). I'd imagine there would be a load of people on VR6OC and CGTi interested if this pans out.
  9. I think you can map the throttle response differently with the DTA ecu?
  10. Great to hear this, what a relief it must be. Who are you insured with btw? Is it your insurance sorting or the person who hit you? (just wondering as it's a pretty damn quick turnaround!)
  11. As I said on the other thread: Stick me down for a couple of runs! :) Can't hurt to check everything is still working properly!
  12. Really good read as ever Kev! I guess your appreciation of the 24v is due in part to your familiarity with the 12v, so you can notice and understand the changes a lot more. When are you looking to get it started up?
  13. Interested in this for sure! The colder the better :) It was pretty bleeding hot when Vince mapped mine in April/May I don't know if there's anymore power to be found, but I'm willing to try!
  14. Mine is similarly 90% parts and it must be easily be over 15k in the last 3 years! Dread to think how much it would of cost with labour rates!
  15. I think it's only going to get worse tbh. That new Focus ad really gets on my nerves: Automatic parking, automatic braking etc just encourages people to switch off. I just try and watch cars like a hawk nowadays. kind of assuming they will probably pull out when I go past them!
  16. Looks stunning on the new rims. Need some engine bay shots too though!
  17. Followed (1 car behind) a Red L reg Rado yesterday, think it was on Sebrings? Going down the road towards Wantage, Oxon and turned off in East Hanney. Anyone here?!
  18. I just looked at the KW ones and they look great too, £400 on the Venom site though! Increased Caster = Increased straight line stability, but heavier steering right.
  19. Looks stunning, congratulations on what I'm sure is an excellent purchase!
  20. How are you finding those adjustable top mounts? They look really good, and much better than having to take the wheels off to adjust the camber. How much Castor adjustment is there?
  21. Thanks guys! I was a little apprehensive at first, but it just looks so good! I'll need to keep my clothes a bit cleaner in the future, but I guess that's no bad thing! The red leathers are sat in the spare room at the moment, I need to order a small dye kit to retouch them up before selling them. :)
  22. Hi, This is a bit of weird one, but has happened a few times over the last 3 months, and seems different to the usual ISV related issue. When I dip the clutch coming to a roundabout, junction or traffic sometimes the car stalls. Normally when this happens, you can let the clutch out and the car bump starts itself, but I've had it a few times now when letting up the clutch doesn't do anything at all. This happened on Tuesday when I was leaving the M40, so doing about 70 and the battery should have been charged. I eventually stopped on the slip road, turned the key, heard the fuel pump prime, but it just wouldn't start. I waited about 5 mins, tried again and it was fine for the rest of the journey. Does anyone have an idea what could cause this? I've got a late CP ecu with the Immob deleted, could this be playing up?
  23. So I had the red Recaros in my car for a good 18months, and while I love the look of them there were still a few things that annoyed me about them: 1.They sat a couple of inches higher on mk2 subframes, and I'm 6'2 so my head scraped the roof! 2.I didn't do 100% top job first time around, so the black was starting to wear through a bit after daily use. 3.The door cards were black cloth (Well grey cloth, sprayed black) Since the rest of the car is pretty mint, mechanically at least, I thought I'd do it properly, and began looking for a cheap grey leather to dye red, the idea being the lighter colour should take the dye better. After a lot of searching, I decided people were asking wayyyy too much for shabby grey interiors ( I think they are still for sale as a result) and started looking at black interiors. I then saw Quicky1980s members thread, and the combo of Aqua-Blue and Beige/Cream with black plastics looked amazing. So a deal was done with Emu for his freshly refurbed Beige leather, and 3 weeks later I was fitting it to me car. I took the opportunity to fit a load of Silent Coat sound deadening to the doors, 3/4 panels and around the fuel tank. I also replaced most broken clips and sticky-back felted around all the clips, in an attempt to silence the creaks and rattles. I had a load of bubble wrap left over from the seats, so I stuffed that in the 3/4 panels for good measure. It took two days in total to go over the whole interior, and I've still got the dash to do! The result is incredible though. The doors open and close with a nice clunk, I can't hear the Wallbro fuel pump whirring away anymore, neither the annoying motorway drone of the straight-through exhaust system. It just feels so solid over bumps now it's amazing! It's also lovely sitting at the correct height, the whole thing just feels better and nicer to be in! Here's a few photos of the end result, super happy :)
