There are third party versions but they are very much not OE look so a lot of people are put off. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

On the rear suspension of 80s and 90s VW you will lose the slight passive rear steering if you go non-OE for bushing. This is what gives the car its turn-in and agility in fast corners, but does also contribute to a degree of instability in a few rare circumstances. Oh and the whole design is archaic, so yes the rear is the source of most of the body-crashing bone shaking harshness.. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

Of course they are old, that's the point. Go back to a car where you have to operate controls that move things, instead of making a polite request to the computer to open the throttle, or turn the steering wheel and hoping it agrees with you.. :) A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

Mine will fire up with a dodgy battery, but if it's not spinning over with some eagerness it could well be on its way out. They leak a lot of current when not in use and batteries tend to last no more than a couple of years on lightly-used cars. All that said, if the battery is low it will tend to turn over slowly, and get slower before stopping rather than stopping abruptly. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

I assume you are confident the battery is good..? That is the most obvious thing to check out. If so it could be a third party immobiliser, but the factory immob will generally allow the car to start ok but it'll die about five seconds later. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

I've seen 37mpg on mine, with 130k miles on the clock. You do have to drive very, very carefully though.. Forget 45mpg as a target though, the new 1.2 TSI polos will bang in 65 - 70 mpg in the same circumstances. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

I found the improvement in performance from fitting the 263s essentially equivalent to the difference between driving the car with a passenger and a full tank of fuel and the performance when driving alone with only a whiff left in the tank. I.e. equivalent to removing 100+kg of weight. I also have a schrick fitted so bingo, 215 lbft to go with my 215 bhp. :) A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

Vag-com will use the cable but won't unlock all the features. You need the old v3.1 version (iirc) anyway, not the most recent. The software will decode the *first* error only, you have to Google the rest. It was perfect for a weekend warrior such as myself..! A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

I bought an OBDeleven Bluetooth scan dongle, primarily to talk to our mk7 golf, but found it can also talk to the Corrado (late VR6) too. I'd be surprised if it can talk to the 16v though. I also have a super cheap Chinese special Bluetooth dongle but that never worked on the Corrado at all. I've also had cheap serial and USB ross- tech rip-off cables that have worked fine too. Thirty quid or so and they worked fine with the freeware mode of vag-com. (Meaning it doesn't decode the errors.) All on a VR6, remember. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

These are old cars.. I think I'd need some pretty bad symptoms to make me want to spend best part of three grand on an engine rebuild, personally. I would not be surprised if most VRs showed some issues if you look close enough. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

The air temp is very high at the moment, that has a huge impact. The VR6 warms up practically by the end of the street when it's starting from 29 degrees. I wouldn't worry unless you start losing coolant or think you have an airlock. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

"doesn't feel fast" means a lot of things.. what are you used to? I think you might get about 180bhp out of a 68mm pulley car, from what I recall, so.. what does "struggled 100 and beyond" mean? I assume you mean it wasn't accelerating hard above 100mph? A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

The track width difference was all in the subframe and suspension components, I don't think it effects the bodywork. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.
