It is worth talking to them. I was amazed at the price considering i had zero NCB due to it being a 2nd policy. Martin was also able to sort out the fact that i didnt have the CAT1 approved installer certificate - as the history i had kept safe had been lost by a previous owner in between me selling it & buying back :)

Hi lilfuzzer, thank you for your reply!! Sounds interesting, are they the correct fitment for a 16v? could you post a pic for me pls? Also if possible could you please let me know the weight of 1 wheel with deflated tire & i can get a courier quote as ive used interparcel to collect wheels on a couple of occasions :)

Thanks Nick - there is quite a bit more on the 'to-do' list for the VR before im happy to show it....... Fit the new bonnet lining after removing decaying old stuff Lots of new shiny bits in the form of stainless kits from daves16v Renew headlining Change spot & indicator lenses Get few spots of paint work sorted & bonnet sprayed again as its covered in tiny pimples thanks to an unclean bodyshop :( Plus i think the gf would put up a strong argument that she would only go in her storm lol

Hello m8 - my power output after stealth map was the same as yourself.....209.8 BHP IIRC & lb/ft not far off the same figure. I forgot to take pics of my ECU maps last night but will get them on here in next couple of days so you can see Vince mentioned that is about the usual overall output with those upgrades but he has had a couple of VR's that made approx 220bhp but had no idea why Your quite correct that the main difference is in the delivery & response, it is so much more urgent throughout the rev range. I had the pleasure of using my gf's storm during the 2 weeks my VR was last at stealth & it felt like mine was on red bull when i got my VR back lol

I am of similar views mic - they are all too helpful until t comes to giving the customer their money lol martin was a great help & FYI jim i am planning to move my VR to them next year when ive had some paint work sorted as they can provide agreed value on a main car policy (unlike many others who say they can only do agreed value on a 2nd policy) VR6 South - no i didnt go for agreed value on this policy, thought it would have only been an additional £15
-
No as i have an RAC membership. It was just the basic policy but it does allow me to drive other cars 3rd party & includes courtesy car & legal aid. I was very pleased as i was expecting much higher due to my NCB being in use on the VR

I would like to thank Martin & the team at HIC for helping me get a fantastic quote for classic insurance for my old 1.8 16v that i managed to buy back this weekend after about 7 years. A superb price of £122 for 3000 miles limited comprehensive cover with commuting & all with 0 NCB as it is a new second car policy. If i hadnt got such a good price i would not have been able to buy the valver back :D

Thanks Nick! It really is nice to be finally at the end of the tunnel & back in the light :D I bet you were glad to have yours back too & your build thread is a good read. The install looked very tidy at the various points which i saw it at stealth. I have wondered where my old valver was since the day i sold it....& regretted the sale from that point too. It didnt really make much sense for me to buy it back either but the temptation was too strong & ive told myself i can justify it by using it in the winter & keep my VR safe & sound & away from all the salt etc im undecided on national day yet - are you planning on attending?

Hi all On saturday i brought back the 1.8 16v corrado i sold about 7 years ago. It needs some work....new matrix, leaking power steering pipe & a few other things but it drives well....with the exception of the horrible 17" wolf race wheels someone put on it I have recently depleted all of my savings & more on my VR's engine work & though i probably shouldnt have brought my old white valver back i just couldnt resist I would like to ask the good people on here if anyone has any 4 stud wheels, 15" or 16", which have the correct offset etc & have no plans for them? Hopefully there may be some of you that have wheels taking up space in your garage, loft etc which you may wish to pass on to a fellow forum enthusiast ;) I would be more than happy to give away the current 17's in return if required Thank you for reading this post & my fingers & toes are crossed :)

Pro-active engine refurbishment/rebuild - costs at a garage?
g0ldf1ng3r replied to Portent's topic in Engine Bay
Hi Jim I have just updated my build thread in members gallery & one of the issues i experienced was due to the oil pump. having already had the head rebuild etc I found my engine was loosing oil.......my oil pressure was tested & found to be 9 bar whilst cold & ended up causing a leak out of the new head gasket & another leak by the core plug. fortunately vince was very good to me as we were in the middle of tacking gremlins & i only had to pay for parts. One thing i did learn from the past few months is that once you get past a certain point of rebuilding / refreshing old parts for new then you really need to think of absolutely everything as if you were carrying out a full rebuild. i thought i had considered everything but ended up spending much more than expected due to gremlins & issues a good example being...........having took the car back to stealth to tighten & check all new cooling hoses & clips......the ends of my heater matrix collapse & results in the dash having to come out to have a matrix fitted by all means drop me a PM if you have any questions as i didnt want to put all of the intricate detail in my build post -

during the work at stealth my oil pump was found to be suspect & failing. oil pressure was at 9 bar when cold!!! fortunately it was in good hands at stealth when diagnosed lol -
There is more to the tale to tell..... Some of you may have seen the pics of my 1st rado, the white 1.8 16v, on my build thread or on the post i put asking where it could be.... When i was collecting the VR from stealth on saturday 2 weeks ago we were chatting while i was waiting for vince, as he was tweaking a map for a golf he had on the rollers, & i mentioned my old valver & the reg as it still sticks in my mind After i had a great drive home as a happy customer i relaxed for the evening & wok on sunday to find a text from vince with a link to ebay as his colleague had seen my valver on sale on ebay.....& the auction was due to end that evening about 20.40 after a day & evening of turmoil & 'should i, shouldnt' i kind of discussions with myself i could not resist & managed to win the auction & at £10 less than i sold her for about 7 years ago after a journey to manchester on saturday & having had a good look round her & a quick test drive i handed over the money & enjoyed a troublesome drive back to the west midlands i regretted selling it from the very moment it drove away from me & im still a little bit in shock that i have her back.....albeit missing the kamei front skirt & has a few issues needing fixing but it still has the sides & rear skirts, still has the full stainless powerflow exhaust i put on it, sunroof still works & even still has the small infinity speakers i upgraded in the dash!! new build thread will be due here lol

After a troublesome few months of my VR to'ing & fro'ing between home & stealth i thought it about time i updated my build thread Long story short i put her into stealth back in Oct last year, approx 150K on the clock, for a head rebuild & some functional & some shiny upgrades & there ensued several months of gremlins causing many a trip to stealth & back from west midlands Upon reflection i have concluded that some of the issues were a combination of old worn parts, new parts failing when installed, a mass of work done but not quite a full rebuild (resulting in chasing a problem round until all factors in the equation were found & fixed) & an unfortunate lack of attention to detail & presentation in work. I have to thank Vince for being the customer focused person he is & congratulate him on managing to keep my faith in stealth & himself during the very difficult period of tackling said gremlins. There was a mixture of bad workmanship & bad luck, with several brand new parts failing, but Vince made sure he tackled all of the issues & in the end produced a superb result & a happy customer. I also have to thank him for all of his efforts to keep my costs down during difficult period. Those several months resulted in the following being done: Head rebuild inc new gaskets, valve seals, re-seated valves etc etc(this was done twice as vince re-done all work to make sure all issues were fixed) Full set of chains & tensioner's Schimmel 263 cams BMC CDA Custom stealth ECU remap - graphs to follow Roose motorosport hoses & clips, full set Thermostat & housing Primary & auxilary (electric) water pumps All 3 cooling temp sensors Oil temp sensor golf V5 starter motor Vibratechnics front engine mount OEM rear gearbox mount Valeo clutch with revised release bearing (as the original shed its grease & the 2nd one chirped like crazy) & new clutch arm assembly etc Sump oil pump Sump & gasket Core plug Battery Valeo heater matrix Full set of golf VR engine rebuild polished stainless bolts & washers from liquid metal refinement Vince also took my inlet manifold to the body shop he knew & had the couple of deep scratches they had accidentally made flatted & polished out Oh & im currently awaiting some of daves16v fine work in the form of shiny stainless kits for the slam panel & a few other bits & now the part we all wait for.......pictures.....

I had this with my VR too & the gf had it with her storm - mine was some time ago but the gf's was only changed a few months back i have a feeling the late VR cables are no longer available from VW as my mechanic struggled to get get one which fitted correctly for the gf however, with a new cable the throttle feel is vastly improved :D

Watch those prices rise - its says so here!
g0ldf1ng3r replied to Bullfinch's topic in General Car Chat
indeed EJ - i think many people on here under value them despite all the hard work [& hard cash] they put into them articles like this are becoming ever increasingly common & with the plethora of very complimenting reviews from when the rado's were first manufactured 'us' the owners & forum members should be welcoming increased prices personally i have doubled the insured value of mine this year compared to last year now, due to all the work put into it, & the recent post & experience of DPS on here proves the insurers are starting to be on our side about value too...... quote "The valuation company called to say they agreed their initial offer did not reflect the true value of the car. They now placed it somewhere between 2.5 and 3.5 times the amount of their first offer and following my photographic evidence of her condition this was likely in the higher end"
