  1. Does the loom HAVE to be upgraded or can I go for something like Philips X-treme Power (+80%) and get an improvement?
  2. On my motorbikes I often changed the headlight bulbs for Philips BlueVision Xenon items for a few quid. These did a great job of making a bike stand out in the traffic and also improved what I could see at night. Question is, will they help improve the night vision from the fairly feeble standard headlights?
  3. Autoglass did my windscreen recently and did a pretty decent job from what I can tell. Bloke was very methodical and seemed very interested in cars generally which is a good sign I think.
  4. Thanks - that sounds like a reasonable pointer. I'll stick me head under the bonnet before I order some new leads. Are they easy to change? (Bear in mind I'm a mechanical numpty . . )
  5. Why do I walways think of these things when I am not near the car? Is my 1993 VR6 a coil pack or distributor model? Does the chassis number tell me? Or the engine code?
  6. Cheers Leads on eBay seem to go from 30 to 120 quid VWSpares / Beru at around fifty sounds like a good shout!
  7. Electric mirrors worked when I bought the C but don't now. First guess is a fuse. So do I need STANDARD BLADE fuses or MINI BLADE fuses or something else? Also are all fuses equal? Are there good makes / crap makes? etc ?? Hope it is a fuse . . . . Also the garage when they were fixing my knackered crank sensor said the HT leads were a bit dodgy. Again, are there REALLY GOOD ones that are worth the extra or a GOOD MIDDLE value make and anything to definitely avoid?
  8. That sounds wicked (as people younger than me would say)
  9. Ouch - but I guess for a decent job it has to be fairly steep.
  10. Volkspeed in Ashtead tell me the crank position sensor was the problem. They have reset the fault and cleaned the sensor and things are loads better and are ordering a replacement as it is still registering as a low level fault. Other issues are failed ABS sensor (I knew that one and had tape over the dashboard light), exhaust starting to blow a bit but still very servicable, something dodgy on the front suspension which is causing the insides of the front tyres to wear to the point of being illegal, Apart from that they reckon things are in pretty good shape
  11. I guess I mean a good job outwardly -not every single piece of metal hidden from view - I suppose it is like saying how long is a piece of string . . .
  12. If you could choose ANY colour to respray a Corrado, what would it be and why? The first one I had was Green which I think was a really cool colour. I've seen one on here which was resprayed silver and looked brilliant but in the last 15 years I think about 40% of cars have been sold in some form of silver paint which makes it a less attractive colour for me. And finally what is the cost of a full decent respray assuming you just give them the car and they do all the work?
  13. I think it is a bit of an art - not sure if the old fella was messing with me but he did keep touching the brakes which made me brake (to avoid pranging his pride and joy) and then he immediately gets off the brake and back on the gas. All good fun though . . . :D
  14. Well the towing has been completed. Got my 75 year old dad to do it in the end - the C being dragged behind his immaculate Passat Estate (6 years old and only 15k on the clock!). All was fine until the level crossing gates started to come down and he decided to boot it :nono: thought the front of the C was going to come off :cuckoo: But fortunately the rope had a bit of give in it and we made it! Now I await the verdict from the garage tomorrow.
  15. Next question, is getting the wife to tow me in the C (with no PAS working) in the dark using her automatic 3 series convertible a recipe for divorce?
  16. Need to get the C a mile and a half up the road to the garage to sort out my engine problem. The problem makes the thing almost undrivable so I need to get a tow up there. The garage will do it for me (at a cost no doubt) but I'd rather do it myself. I would look at the car myself but it's at home and I'm not so the question is - where is the towing point on the front of a 1993 VR6 please? Thanks in advance
  17. Well it had to happen and when I needed to pick my daughter up! Where to begin? A little background perhaps . . . ? VR6 that doesn't get used much - a couple of short trips each week. Not used it for a couple of weeks so gave the battery a bit of a charge. Also the last tank of fuel was 95 Ron but I had just filled up a couple of miles ago with 98 Ron from Tescos. So tonight I start her up - lovely no problem, lights everything all good. Rev her a bit - great here we go! Reverse off the drive and then off I go. Three hundred yards down the road to a T junction and then I stop and it stalls . . . . OK not that unusual as not been run for almost two weeks. Start her up and rev and it's really rough spluttering then revving very high. Then revs drop right off even with foot. Just about manage to turn it around and and limp back home with a couple of repeat performances of the above. So have I :censored: it up by charging the battery? By changing fuel? LAck of use caused something to get stuck? Succumbed to old age? What do you think ladies and gents? Thanks in advance . . .
  18. Around town I get 24 mpg 120 mile run on the motorway at 80 gave me about 35 mpg
  19. Thanks everyone - I know what to put in my letter for Father Christmas (along with a new exhaust, some bigger rims, induction kit . . . . )
  20. Bit of a ramble coming up. Got me VR6 that only gets used now and again but at least once a week and mainly short trips. So the battery is obviously going to start suffering. I have a small battery charger for my motorbike which is "for up to 1200 cc". I'm guessing that this might not be up to the job for the Corrado? Then again my Dad has always been a great believer in charging his batteries in his cars (all VWs) and his 5 year old Passat estate (14k miles) is on it's 3rd battery. So do I need a bigger charger / maintainer and use it sparingly? Will the charger I've got for the bike do just fine? Do I need to get one of those jump start boosters for when the thing actually won't start . . . . ?
  21. Based on that I could virtually double my money if I sold mine! I know there is room to haggle but . . . . .
  22. Mrs 4eyes is on her third 3 series convertible - she loves it a few days per year, tolerates it most of the time and hates it a fair few times. Then she sells it for something "more practical" like a Leon / Golf / Astra then starts to hanker for the rag top again. I find them very nice to drive - the straight 6 is a lovely engine and the latest one which has the M Sport pack drives very well BUT it is a bit of a middle aged womans car (that is what she is) where as the corrado is REALLY special EVERY time you drive it. The Beamer can be driven in a sedate manner most of the time. The Corrado HAS to be pushed because it is so much more fun when you do. I know we are talking Audi not Beamer here but I guess the feel is the same. Especially with an older convertible when they hadn't really got the idea of stiffening them properly. If you want something to drive that looks nice and drives ok then the convertible wil be fine BUT many people will think you are a :censored: because that is what jealous people do. If you want something that drives really well and looks good and gets a lot of positive attention then it is the Corrado. (I believe I should finish this with IMHO)
  23. That was another issue - they look ok on the scirroco but I can't understand how he even got a scirroco with passat wheels . . . . dealers do odd things to make cars look different I guess . . . . Anyway the "vintage" speedlines will remain in place.
