  1. yes its true - i think it all comes down to quality control
  2. Even vw use china to manufacture parts - i got a new fuel filter from my local vw dealer paying the vw premium came in a vw box opened it only to find a made in china stamped on it!
  3. yes my friend fully wound back!! I have just ordered a new caliper to match the new one just fitted to the near side and i have ordered two new hand brake cables to the length as stated in etka 1615mm
  4. right i got back to this this evening - fitted the new caliper to the nearside Fed the hand brake cables through and now they are different lengths once entering the hand brake tunnel (10mm difference) off side longer (previously it was the nearside) now as i fitted the large chamfered nuts to the cables the the rear wheels are locked - i cant even fit the secondary lock nut What the hell am i doing wrong
  5. what was the mileage on this? (i assume its high with no history)
  6. Fail sheet says brake system, foot brake left/right differential high , rear brake system, parking brake effort low rear brake system, parking brake defective nearside rear As above i will replace the caliper and see what happens
  7. Hello thanks for the reply, it has a new bias valve installed and i did have it open while bleeding the system, The brakes were spongy but after a few hours driving they firmed up - i will order a new caliper and try it
  8. my car has failed its mot - nearside rear imbalance, parking brake insufficient. this car has had a complete brake replacement - everything last year it passed its mot but the inspector said the rear nearside is weak but this year the inspector put it down as a major defect i changed the rear calipers to mk3 vr6 although used had seen very little use as the caliper paint was still intact initially i thought i had fitted the wrong hand brake cables - mk2 golf but today i checked and they are correct - pagid 1603mm checked the handbrake cables and the nearside i can adjust right up to its max and with a bit of force i can still turn the rear nearside wheel with the handbrake on do i still have air in this brake line? although i took my time doing this using the 2 man method faulty caliper? thanks
  9. at an auction all it takes is 2 people who want it and who knows where it can end!
  10. Takes you to be careful with import tax on anything from the USA - has caught a lot of people out
  11. hey keyo thats what i call dedication to getting a car as good as new i am sure your wallet is empty at the moment!! mine just failed its mot today - cant believe it failed on brake imbalance on the rear - nearside handbrake - something tells me i have fitted mk2 golf handbrake cable and iam going to change the caliper as well. i fitted new mk3 rear calipers during its rebuild
  12. glad to here you got its going - good to see another G60
  13. andy go over everything you have done - cars this age things are brittle!!
  14. it would be good to get an emergency bonnet opening system in place - my cable broke last year and of course broke the grille trying to get it open Have a new grille but i am afraid to fit it as iam waiting for the cable to fail again!!
  15. hello andy Has the car just been giving trouble since your minor modifications were carried out?
  16. hello and welcome to g60 ownership with these cars its a learning curve in ownership as i am learning myself but do not be put off as these are cracking cars once sorted my own overfuelled when i got it but this was due to broken cabling to the lamda probe but it never stopped the car from starting it just consumed fuel at an alarmimg rate check the fuel pressure regulator (mounted on the fuel rail) Is the fuel pump running when the engine is turned off? Faulty injectors staying open? / There are other people on here with a vast experience of this engine who will give you a lot better advice
  17. slow to sell they were at the end - i recall talking to a senior vw salesman at the local dealership who spoke fondly of the car but said they had to heavily discount the cars at the end even a final storm just to shift unsold stock.. but it would be nice to own a car with that mileage
  18. nice auction estimate! never seen or heard of a p reg
  19. vr6 spares on bumtree at the moment inc full ob2 wiring loom
  20. keep us informed what the quality is like - never noticed these before despite searching online
  21. Dont know about that but 10k for a 16v!!! Some of the prices quoted especially on ebay i wonder do the actually sell for the prices quoted
  22. Keyo 10k for a 16v Mk2 Golf? that is madness at the moment as there is plenty of cars out there although a lot are sorn and tucked away i have 2 at present but one is just a shell To drive the cars i find they are totally different but thats maybe just the engine g60 v 16v i find the biggest difference is build quality and noise - corrado has far better build quality! i had a chat a while ago with a vr6 mk2 owner and he found the car nose heavy but loved the power and noise - dont know if it was wide tracked though
  23. im really P****d off at the moment everything seems to cost me money
  24. i recently reinsured my corrado after disposing of my golf 1.8t anniversary (needed to much work for its next mot) my existing insurance would not insure the corrado - dont know why the telephone operator could no give me an answer anyway cancelled the policy and asked if they could forward me confirmation of my NCD which they duly did (always like to have written confirmation) went to a comparison web site and insured the corrado and all seemed to be fine deposit paid etc Around 10 days later i got an email requesting a copy of my log book (never had that before) and proof of NCD i forwarded this all be email several days later i got a reply informing me that they had increased my premium by 70% (estimated) because the log book indicated the i had purchased the car only last year - i have owned and registered this car for over 10 years. last year i put the corrado back on the road after several years and after getting it motd i tried to tax it only to be told the log book was out of date and i has to apply for a new one which i did. i believe this was due to the DVLA moving from N Ireland to wales and new log books had to be issued. i still have my original log book They also refused to accept my proof of NCD because i cancelled the previous policy (IT STATES I HAVE 14 YEARS NCD)with no claims outstanding. i contacted by telephone and the operator was not interested so i cancelled the policy with a cancellation fee of course!! so in total the insurance company got almost £100 for roughly 14 days cover For the last couple of years i have never been asked to produce proof of my NCD - i assume all my details are held within an insurance data base i am of an age now where insurance premiums are not that bad anymore i have taken out insurance with another company and it will be interesting to see if they request the same information?
