...wise words, unless your mate is skint...
-
my second valver was declared cat d after my mates wife drove into the door and rear panel at 2mph, so as above, can mean very little in terms of overall condition and just be a case of bad luck.

i'd say £800 is too much for a retrim, i'm paying £100 for a half trim of two recaro's!
and find someone's who's handy with a grinder and a welder for the subframes :)
-
that is a great bit of kit, would it slide under a lowered car easy enough, and does it run along the chasis rails then?
-
get them bought and fitted, they'll look well.
-
welcome long, good fabriction skills on display there!
-
nice one Alex, chuffed for you after reading the updates!

agree fully, my two favorite tools right there, a dremel and a welder :) i know how difficult access is under these cars to weld and that welds not bad considering!
-

looks like a great job, good skills, uv gotta be keen to get it back on the road now.

sorry, automatically presumed you meant the HT coil not coilpack, as thats more likely to be at fault than the coil packs which generally split and visibly arc. have you tested power to the coil?
someone correct me if i'm wrong, but i thought the ignition/ ecu and starter circuits were separate, so it will still crank.
-
have you checked power to the coil pack? bently has a guide on how to check.
another possibility ...ignition switch.
how long have you let the car sit with a fresh battery?
93/k would mean dizzy as well, so hall sender fault, integral to the dizzy unit unfortunately.

ok you want to start by measuring the leakage level at the battery with the ignition off, clocks etc pull miminal current, switch cabin lights off though.
the old school method is to then systematically pull fuses noting the reading, if it drops to zero then you've found the circuit to blame, you then take it from there testing components and noting the drawer until you find the short.
New to this VR6 lark, need a little advice!

that 3rd pic is of an ekotek valve, probably one of the most successful 'go quicker gismo' scams ever - remove it asap, as the reasoning is horse****!
from memory of their spiel, anything over 2ltr will require two of them to be fitted, having only one fitted to a 2.9 will cause the valve to be sucked open permenantly - allowing unmetered air into the engine cycle all the time - hence major idle issue!
