Yours being an early VR Rob, isn't it a fibre gasket? What's on there now? There's a groove along the sump where it meets the gasket/block that the rubber gasket fits in to, you'll know when you remove it mate.

If you can put it back on until everything goes for powder coating Rob, I'd do the sump too. It won't cost much more than a tin of hammerite anyway.

Just keep an eye out. I got a Silver one in good knick for £26 to my door.

Pretty sure it shouldn't spin. The captive nut is bonded into the box so spinning means it's not retaining properly. One of mine did this but I manage to pull the box out without doing too much damage. I had to plastic weld it back in place afterward though. The hardest part I found was removing the top two dash nuts, access under the scuttle, specifically the drivers side one as the wiper linkage is in the way. Very fiddly and hard to get to with a ratchet. You may have more luck with a flexible extension, but mine were quite well corroded on so the flexi just kept bending out of shape. Managed it in the end but very frustrating!

Powder coating will be much cheaper than you think Rob. I thought it would be similar to painting something of that size, but it's far less. You can have standard coat or nylon. Nylon is much more hard wearing but is a little more expensive but still pretty cheap to be honest. It worth going somewhere local with a pic for size reference, and getting a quote. I reckon you can get both from and rear drive train done in nylon for around £200.

Rob, Hasan, mine is the same as that too. I've fitted a new stat, heat exchanger, water pump, coolant flush and renew, heater matrix, and all new water temp sensors and thermoswitch. Basically, a whole new cooling system bar hoses. I've spoken to a lot of people who see the same temps so it's pretty normal.

Coolant should sit at 90. It'll sometimes go slightly higher if your raggin the nuts off of it, or Sat in traffic in high heat, but the fans should be kicking in bringing it back down. Oil temps should be between 102-110 or thereabouts.

Any mk3 Golf GTI (8v) gearbox will bolt straight on. That's probably your best and cheapest option bud. Tons of em about too which helps.

2.8 VR6 block and internals Standard 2.8 block including crank, rods and pistons. Not sure on mileage but bores look good and crowns are undamaged, if a little grubby. Head has been removed which is what I bought it for. Perfect for replacement or rebuild. Only after 25 but I cannot pallet it up, so is strictly collection only. Jim, Ive emailed Ron and I have a virus on my laptop making it pretty much unusable at the moment. I'm on my kindle and having trouble copying pics from photobucket and attaching them on emails. Th legislation surrounding advertising and charges for flights in historic aircraft is about to change, so private owners are able to charge more to recoup some of the phenomenally large amounts they have to spend to keep them airworthy. This can only be a good thing in th long run so fingers crossed, more will become viable to put back in the air in the not too distant future.

Got back from Tenerife last Wednesday. Lovely holiday and loads to do. Weather was a bit too hot tbf, (low to mid 30s) as our youngest is 16 months old. Daughter swam with dolphins at Aqualand though which is a big(ish) water park with the dolphin show. There's another water park with bigger slides as well for older kids/adults, the zoo is apparently quite good with shows also, and Loro park in the North (about 60 km from Las Americas and Los Christianos where most other attractions are, where there's another dolphin show as well as Orca show etc. First time I've ever seen this sort of thing and I honestly thought they were incredible!

I've seen the level of workmanship of a stealth turbo setup and I've got to admit, I'm not sure I've ever seen better from DIY to pro. Even OE setups have looked poorly thought out in comparison. I've gotta say though with this level of workmanship, they leave absolutely nothing to chance, and the bill was the best part of double that. Never once heard a bad word about them either which in comparison to some very highly thought of specialists, is an absolute first. If your wallet will stretch that far, or even if it'll be a hard stretch, I wouldn't seriously consider any other option than going there.

Around 8 litres Rog, although you'll never get it all out unless changing matrix and everything else. As said, two 1.5 litre bottles and top up with water. Water in Guzz is **** hot so tap water should be fine.

Definitely sounds like something amiss with combustion on the first turn Rob. :scratch: What else has been changed with regard to ignition? Seem to remember a pretty comprehensive list of parts before.
