  1. Amended just for you James. Bloody predictive text!
  2. Just had a chat with the bodyshop. Still not a great deal done, although there was a little bit of rot at the bottom of the rear arch joining the sill which they've cut out and welded in new. All glass is now out, and bonnet and wings are now bare metal. Should have a couple of photos tomorrow. Although not particularly impressed with the amount of time it's taking them, the level of extra work they're doing in compensation evens it out a bit. Certainly no rush now though as in other news, I'm off away in April for 9 months so not sure if the car will see public roads for about 18 months. :( Bit of fun in the south Atlantic though so not all bad, and it'll give me a nice bit extra to save for the underside and engine work.
  3. After 2k, go 2k5 or 3k for a nice flat finish. Carpro Dlux or G-techniq c4 will make them look like new for a long time Matt. It's not cheap, but honestly, you get what you pay for mate. Neither of them are over shiny and wet looking, just nice deep black and new looking bud.
  4. I've had someone near Plymouth offer me "a quick blow over" :camp: for £650, so there are people about who will do it, but I wouldn't expect it to last very long at all.
  5. Has yours had much engine work done Rob? iirc yours has average mileage, but if it's had work relatively recently you should be safe mate. Thicker oil for a slightly "looser" engine will prevent excess wear, although I wouldn't panic mate, the mileage you do in it shouldn't cause any harm. It may sound a little more noisy than usual is all. Speaking with oilman anyway, he's mentioned that the Synta silver 10w-40 is old hat now and not particularly good compared to modern oils either. It's a little frustrating but it's not a big deal so don't worry too much mate.
  6. Quick before and after. Still can't believe this happened! Mic sir, you are a legend! :thumbleft: Yum yum.
  7. Think the 5w-40 is the longlife platinum stuff everything VAG seems to use at the minute. Synta silver 10w-40 is what it should be Rob, although I'm sure I read that it's no longer stocked. May be worth finding a good quality replacement bud.
  8. Just for the lambda and rear knock sensor wiring as far as I know Rog. Maybe helps a touch with the brake fluid reservoir bid I can't see it being a huge amount. Why do you want to chuck anyway?
  9. It'll just be compression fit, so a small puller should get it off. The fan blade is for cooling though and will draw air into the motor. I'd leave it alone and just try to put a cover over it if you can.
  10. Ooh, I could be Interested. These are obsolete so maybe something you could do as a supply on demand type thing. A good printed instructions leaflet in with the pack would help too. Be good to know if all types use the same canister.

I assume your pickup has cracked from the previous owner running dick head low too! Sorry I can't help, but I feel your pain brother! Tis what mine was like when I bought it too.
  13. Ah yeah, just read on your members gallery and realised these were your SP cams. No idea if these can be repaired though sorry. More than likely someone can, but whether it would last or be cost effective is another matter.
  14. Pretty sure I have the shells too I'll chuck in mate.
  15. I've got a set of cams out the 2.8 you can have Rog. I'll post em off to you tomorrow if you want them mate?
  16. If I didn't know you better James, I'd think you genuinely hated me with those replies! To the OP, they're not too difficult to work on and I'm no expert either, bit with the help of this forum and a bit of enthusiasm to get stuck in, it's not too difficult. :thumbleft:
  17. He's Right, ask James here, we call him HRH Captain von knowseverythingaboutanything hifon ubergeekanus :geek:
  18. Welcome! Have a look in the wiki section under general info, there's a detailed buyers guide that's very helpful indeed. First and foremost, buy one with as good a bodywork as you can afford. Mechanicals can be sorted relatively cheaply in comparison.
  19. Details of pump recon sounds interesting too! Where's it being done, what work, and how much if you don't mind me asking? I've got a spare to go on, but I'd be happier to try it knowing it's had new seals etc. My current one is showing outlet valve failure iirc
  20. YES! Milk first without exception!
  21. 2 tins you can't keep it like that past next summer!
