Massive thanks to Kip who sent me another ABS Controller to try, unfortunately there is no change. Think I'll look for a new loom, but for the time being I've fudged something together in the workshop that will get it through the MOT. Ask no questions, you'll hear no lies......................:ignore:

It'll be alright, just leave it out in the sun to dry off..........................................:ignore:

I had this when I changed my rocker gasket, and **** myself! Turned out it was just a couple of drops of oil on the manifold, and it caused tons of smoke! I had to put the car on axle stands and look from underneath to locate exactly where it was coming from though as I couldn't tell from above.

Car washes make me :pukeright: Car does look great though! :thumbleft:

I went to collect the new daily yesterday, and did about 6 miles on the M3. It was pretty quiet, but on three occasions I had to pull out from the first lane into the third, then go back across to the first lane again due to middle lane hoggers. What did I notice............... all three were Women drivers! Now I'm not suggesting ALL woman are poor drivers, and its quite a brash generalisation if I were to suggest that, and I'd come across as a chauvinist pig. But IN MY EXPERIENCE, most of these problems are caused by Women, and people over the age of 65. Just my 2 pence worth.................

Thanks Paul, let me know how much I owe you for postage mate. Mat, I've got VCDS lite on an ebay cable, and its coming up as no signal from ECU when testing ABS specifically. I'm not entirely convinced though, as it throws no error codes on any scan even with engine off. From what I'm led to believe with ignition on but engine off, it should come up with a crank sensor fault or somesuch?

£12 for 100ml, and still cheaper than VW...............:shocked!:

Exactly, shoulder pads n all! lol I did notice on the way back though that half way down on the clutch pedal travel is a slight rumbling. I didn't notice it on the test drive, and I drove it for a good few miles. Seems its an early sign of DMF wear..................oh dear! Not having much luck with cars lately, although tbf, I reckon its got a good few miles in it yet. Indie prices for replacement of clutch and DMF are around the 1k mark, which would bring it into line price wise with whats on the market in comparable condition and mileage, and at least I know its done and probably never need doing again. I've got the means to do it myself though, so I could do it for half that with a day or two of my free labour! Theres no juddering at low revs or anything like that and its barely noticeable. There's no clutch slip at all either, but I'd replace that anyway whilst doing it as its the original I think. Either way its not presenting itself as urgent so I'll put that off for a little while yet!

Well heres the new daily for the missus. I cycle to work most of the time so don't really use the car an awful lot except the occasional social outing. Plan is just to give it a good service and a full interior, exterior, and engine bay detail in the next couple of weeks, then get rid of the registration back to a standard plate as neither me or the wife are called Des! :camp:  Its got CD/MP3, folding mirrors, electric everything, parking sensors, duel climate, half leather, cruise control, amongst others, and all for the princely sum of £1400!

Nope! Its a Vauxhall in drag, AND a soot chucker! Mk2 (2006) 1.9 TID. Its for the missus honest! Tbh, she's been driving a mk1 Fabia for the past year, and now we have two kids, its nowhere near big enough, so HAD to get a decent sized family car. I had one in 2.0t flavour five years ago, and I honestly loved it, but at the time I just couldn't really afford to run it. I've hankered after another for a while now, and since we realised the Fabia really was too small (we kind of kidded ourselves it would be ok), I've been looking for something that either doesn't cost the earth to buy, or doesn't cost the earth for her to insure. Since Saab have gone bust, prices have absolutely plummeted! It is sooooooo much car for the money its unreal, and the bonus is that its actually cheaper, yes cheaper for her to insure than a 1.4 8v bloody Skoda! The reason we got the Fabia in the first place, was that insurance over comparable cars (Fiesta, Corsa, Polo etc) was absolutely spot on! The Fabia was literally half the price to insure of those above. (She had three accidents in her first year of driving!) Its a PX that hasn't been listed yet and hasn't been prepped, so got it for a good price, and got a good price for the Fab too, although its pretty mint tbf. The Saab on the other hand is quite grubby, but luckily being confident with a Rotary and some good products, I'll have it sorted in a jiffy! I'll stick a couple of pics up after I collect it tomorrow.

Just bought a Saab. :silent:

That's an extremely kind gesture, thank you Paul! If you could do that, I'd be forever in your debt! I'll pay for postage, and if it solves the problem, I'll pay you what was agreed in your breaking thread. If it proves an incorrect type, or doesn't solve the problem I'll post it back to you to sell on mate. PM on the way buddy!

Little bump but I've sorted the above question with one with the correct suffix. I managed to steal an afternoon chasing the ABS problems today. I've swapped out the control module for what I'm told is a good one of the correct type, yet I'm still getting no indications what-so-ever. I spent the afternoon chasing wiring, and continuity testing everything I could. I'm a bit stumped now so anyone that has any suggestions as to what to try next, I'm all ears! I have voltages from the indicator light; Pin 2 - Black - 12v Pin 3 - Yel/Red - 12v Pin 5 - Br/W - 10v Pin 6 - W/Blue - 0v Pin 7 - Gy/Gn - 10v Pin 2 & 3 are for the LED, but with both being positive voltage, that can't be right can it??? If I move the plug over so pins 1-6 are in use, (instead of 2-7) then the light comes on as pin 1 (brown) is earthed out. It obviously stays on though. I've got the Bentley on CD which shows the schematic that I've been using, but does anyone have a sort of home made diagram with where and when the signals become live etc? Any information or advice anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated, as I'm near out of ideas now! Thanks all! :help:

Yeah fair play and well done on your promotion to the promised land! Even though he's a Gashead, I've got a lot of time for Ian Holloway! Been a while since we've heard one his legendary post match remarks though. lol I used to see him all the time as I grew up just round the corner from where he lived when he played, then managed Bristol Rovers. Top bloke! -
I also agree with this, but fail to see how it can be implemented unless your are shown video evidence by the officer pulling you over, and you signing an agreement. Otherwise its just gonna end up exactly how it is at the moment, and cost the taxpayer millions a year in the courts (which is what they are trying to avoid). I've not had too many dealing with the Police to be fair, and what I have had, they have always been pretty good. There are obviously some exceptions though, and it'll be impossible to ensure fair dealings with them if they are judge, jury and executioner without this.

Good work Jim! I did the exact same thing on my old Golf3 when the oil cooler failed. Never had any experience of doing anything like it on a car before either, and like you I just took loads of pics, and it was a doddle! I painted it up, changed the cambelt, clutch, lightened flywheel, etc etc and it went in and ran like a dream straight away! Its a very satisfying feeling knowing you've done it all yourself isn't it! :smug:

T-cut does what it says. Cuts the paint back by removal. It doesn't have much refinement though as its quite harsh and is a non diminishing abrasive. SRP only has very very light cut though. Its centred around fillers so doesn't remove the scratches/swirls, it only masks them. SRP won't offer the depth that the T-cut will by its very nature. SRP after vthe T-cut would make a good combo though, then a wax on top to protect it and make the shine last. People become product snobs that have been around detailing for a while, thats why T-cut gets written off tbh. It does what it says, but there are better products on the market now as its essentially the same formula that your granddad used to rave about when he put it on his Ford Anglia all those years ago!

I dont remember it having that function when I bought them tbh mate. Certainly not on the missus's Fabia, as it doesnt have electric windows anyway!

Agreed, but I doubt it will be very long before VW discontinue the badges full stop, so aftermarket ones without the pegs would be the only option. Obviously with is preferable so try to push for that if you can, but I think they'd still sell pretty well without tbh. Again front badges really need the pegs though. I'd also be interested in both. :thumbleft: -
Is your fuel pump louder than you'd expect? Usually begins when your low on fuel, but if its well past it, could be that the pump is on its last legs.....

I had to get one tyre put on a bare wheel at "cough" Kwik sh1t last week! (It was a Sunday and was the only place that was open!) Cost me £11.50 to put it on including new valve, and balance.

Remember not to do the bolt up too tight! Finger tight then back quarter of a turn. I made the mistake of doing it on my old Valver, queue obliterated bearings and and knackered stub axles! :bonk:

What sort of Fabric was it that you used on the parcel shelf Gar? I've got to cover mine due to an holes from 6x9s, only I need beige stuff.

Reverse light is not part of the MOT check, so you could get away with it in that respect Stone.
