Is there much difference between the early and late? Just wondered if parts of it could be used for earlier types, or parts of it could be 'modded to fit' :?
-
Bloody hell, just bought track rod ends and ARB drop links for about 4 times what your selling em for!

Hate the lack of cupholder in the Rado? I had an idea..

As said previously, why not try some of the vinyl stuff from an old sun visor? Its texture and colour would be OE too if you get it from a similar period VW from the scrappy, no??? -
I've always used this with good results. Cant say its good for hard to reach places though.

Clocks? Mines on 99.9, and all my vac pipes are good too, including connection to the back of the clocks. I have an old (original) set, but typically its the MFA thats broke on it! Would be interested to see how you get on mate.

Have only just seen this thread, congrats on your purchase! Was gonna say before you said, stay away from the Nugget 'TAG' in Liskeard. It was a member on here previously who owned it and it looked fantastic. Unfortunately the current owner has left it in an awful state. I saw it just before xmas as it was advertised on the Bay, went to see it and its awful. :( Anyway doesn't matter if your happy with the VR, would have said the 2.0 16v with KR cams would be a good compromise on economy and performance though. :thumbleft:

It wont add to the rigidity of it, but maybe an old sunvisor from any random car at the scrappy. Most are vinyl type textured leather effect affairs, or something along those lines anyway. -
Thanks mate, gotta take a trip there tomorrow actually so will enquire about them. Are they generic for most VAG cars, or are they specific for model/hub etc etc.... Cant even get a part number from mine as there is literally nothing left apart from a small jagged mess just around the securing bolts! ---------- Post added at 8:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 8:16 PM ---------- Tis ok, I found a part number on VAGCAT.
-
As above, doing checks for MOT on mine, and the only thing left of mine are jagged bits of metal around the mounting bolts! Dunno if it makes a difference but its a 1990 KR. Cheers!

They are a shared company wth ECP. Directors are the same. http://bizzy.co.uk/uk/07596462/car-parts-4-less

Cant believe I've just spent near on £100 on ECP tonight. Even with 25% discount on ECP, I would have saved an additional £20 by going here! Should have posted this sooner VWVW!

I got a new thread welded back on. By welding the bolt over the top on the mech, it could create problems when if trying to remove the cables, or it would on the Golf anyway. Just seemed a bit of a bodge welding the lot down if you know what I mean.

Little update, had a bit of a tidy up of the bay at the w.end. Rocker gasket was weeping a bit so needed changing, and whilst everything was off, gave it a going over with some crackle black hammerite. I've also swapped the breather hoses out for some blue silicon ones, and rad to expansion overflow to red, but no pics of these. Got a Halfrauds trade card last week too, so just testing it I bought some washer pipe. Should have been £2.99, cost me £1.19! Put that in, and took the washer reservoir out and scrubbed it out with hot soapy water and a kiddies bottle brush, then left in for a couple of hours in boiling water and bleach. It came out looking brand new, I was well impressed! MOT in 2 weeks time, so had it up on the ramps at work to see what needed doing. Looked like a VW specialist in there, was awsome! (This is a car club in Plymouth dockyard btw). I Was pleasantly surprised with the underside actually! Thought I'd need to rub down all brake pipes, but after wiping the crud off, they are virtually brand new! Small amount of rust on N/S sill, so will deal with that in due course but its not bad at all tbh. Only things required for MOT are ARB Droplinks as one is slightly perished, would probs be an advisory but the early worm and all that! Both rear wheel bearings have ALOT of play, which is weird cos they've been picked up as either a failure or advisory 3 times in 6 years. Hmmmm, something amiss maybe but not sure what it could be? Only other thing is exhaust hangers as both rears have proper had it! lol. Need 1 new star washer (or whatever they're called) that secure the heatshield. The threads are very good but one of the washers was missing near the backbox, causing it to rattle at idle when cold. Took one off from around the mid section to replace it with, and now all good! Also ordered a new black oil pressure sensor and rad fan switch as when messing around in the bay, I noticed the pins were loose on both of them. Anyway, enough ramble and more pics! Before During After Workshop shots, - Just make out the C in the background on the 2 post but thats it. More updates in due course.

Happened on my golf 3. Again welded it.

Enquired about a few bits I'm gonna need for MOT in a couple of weeks, and an oil pressure sensor today. Items are for 1990 16v, all prices include VAT. ARB Droplinks - 535411315 £47.64 each. Rear wheel bearing kit - (No part number I'm afraid), but £31.69 each. Oil pressure switch (Black 1.4 bar) 068919081D £12.67

Managed to blag a Trade card using my Forces ID last week. Was really easy actually, bloke asked me what my trade was in the Navy, I said I'm an Engineer (I am) and he didn't question it, just handed the card over and explained what I could and couldn't get discount on. Decided to put it into practice on something cheap, so got some washer jet hose. Should be £2.99, got it for £1.19.

Autoglym bumper care, or a more permanent fix but be careful is with a hot air gun.

Get a 3 position switch from Maplins or the like if its gonna take a while for your proper switch to arrive. So long as none of the wires are shorting out, it will be fine. Will also be a good time to do the in-line fuse mod anyway so that would kill 2 birds and all that!

I so want some body panels, but your too damn far away! Its nigh on impossible trying to find DBP panels anywhere!

Fuel pump relays are numbered 80, 67, or 167 depending on time of manufacture.
-
Missed that sorry! Have you tested for an earth? The only other thing is the cable I suppose, or if you have a large earth thats been overlooked.
-
Duff battery I reckon.
-
Depends what other mods you have, but tbh its not really worth going for a fast road clutch. Will make no discernable difference other than to cause a bit of jerking on pulling away and gear changes at low revs. LUK or SACHS are reputable clutch kits available from ECP/GSF for half the price too.
-
Leave the bottom two bolts slightly loose. Wedge a large spanner or something similar between the block and alternator, and pull it towards you whilst tightening the top tensioner bolt. Nip up the bottom two bolts, job done.

Dont know the difference tbh, and I dont know if they're still available from the stealer but I would imagine so, and I'd recommend a dealership gasket. In my experience, pattern gaskets never quite fit properly, and will always leak/seap a little. For a head gasket I'd deffo be inclined towards the best quality part I could afford tbh.
