  1. Hi, Does anyone have any views on Zimmerman Discs (Cross Drilled)? Or should I stick with Brembos? For reference (Possibly useful on the Wiki)?: Non VAG 312mm Discs from GSF: Brembo (standard only) = Code: 60192 @ £ 42.50+vat each Zimmerman cross drilled = Code: 62374F @ £ 46.50+vat each Thanks, Duncan
  2. If I could I would chop in my Storm for a Cerb 4.5 Light Weight 2+2 Red Rose (about 388bhp/ton). Ages ago I saw a site with some evidence of a 200.2 MPH TVR(road going) but the majority say its never happened.
  3. I need to source some too :-( Madvr6, if I get some I'll let you know.
  4. The MK4 discs won't, wrong off set, as mentioned earlier in this thread I think its the late MK3 discs you need. If you go on GSF, look at MK3 Golfs and then look down the list for 288mm, there the ones. So, to recap ;-) the Calipers of all those cars mentioned in the '312 wiki' are all good for the 288 conversion , plus the MK4 1.8T (that had 288s anyway) and maybe others. But you have to have the carriers off a car that had 312s (see wiki again) to do the 312 conversion. 312 discs off the same list too. 288 discs need to come from the late MK3s (e.g Highline) So that just leaves the carriers, so which do we need for a 288 conversion? Thanks in Advance
  5. So does that mean that the Golf Mk4 1.8T carriers are no good for 288 or 312 conversion on a VR? Any one got any carriers that suit? :-D
  6. I was amazed at just how much coverage there was, the bonnet and windscreen was covered in a haze of 'matter'. want a high res image? didn't think so ;-) big_chris1981, Thats the best suggestion so far but I cleaned off before it ate my paint, so can't taste test it for traces of yogurt.
  7. I live in an area that attracts wild fowl, one of which fowled my Storm (and my wifes mini; driveway, path.. oh and a wall too). I don't normally take pictures of poo, in fact I never have before. I assume this poo came from a swan, or maybe even a terradactal. The wild fowl bowel movement started on the Mini, crossed a meter of drive, up my RCs wing bonnet over the grass the other side and over the path and just up the wall. Do you think thats a world record? It must have been from a good height as the whole front end of the Storm was freckeled with white poo from the splatter!
  8. Are you better off with the 288 Brembos and the VAGs? I need to buy some too. BTW, does anyone know if the carriers that come with say the MK4 1.8T calipers/288Disc are fine for the conversion on the VR?
  9. I feel the need to check when the fans cut in. What sort of oil/water temps would you expect with moderate driving on a warm day (not raggin it, just "making good progress") :-D
  10. btw, what is normal water/oil temp on a VR?
  11. This is my Storm on 17" RCs, with std 4x4 ride height.
  12. The penny dropped on the way home tonight, your username... Club MSV, or is it MotorSport Vision? owners of Cadwell, Oulton, Brands, Bedford and um Snetterton I think? Let me guess, Is your next post going to offer us a TrackDay for £1, including the loan of an lotus & Caterham? You know it makes sense! Edit: oh, I see your profile is linked to them too :-)
  13. I have recently got into trackdays, done Cadwell in mine, Donnigton next(july 9th I hope), done Prestwold in a F360&F355, back for a euro day soon in, F575, Gallardo, XKR etc. Doesn't seem to be a popular pastime with Rado owners...at least its not often mentioned on here.
  14. I had the same mileage problem, I went for a Leon TDi SE (110BHP - non PD, Y Plate) Clocked up over 10k on it in the last 5-6months (now upto 124k on it) still runs very well, only expense has been a MAF, which I bought a Merc one. I found I could buy much newer for the money by going Seat than VW or Audi, skoda would be better still. Best £3k I have ever spent on a car. Pay £115 Tax, normally get 50-60 MPG.
  15. With you on that one, hate em with a passion...or maybe its just how they are driven...
  16. Had this one or two of my Speedline 5 spokes and 3 of my BBS Solitudes. RCs so far have lost no pressure.
  17. I am think the 288 conversion is the way to go if I have to replace pads and discs anyway (still to be checked) ...so for the 288 conversion, I just need the Discs, Calipers and carriers? off a suitable donor and nothing else different? How much did the VAG discs, Goodridge hosed and Pagid FR's set you back? and did you change the type of fluid?
  18. kevhaywire, Sorry to bump this thread but I am interested about anything at the moment to do with handling. Its not that I am trying to change my Storm for a track day car, I just want to make a few improvements in handling. My std ride height results in 3 wheeled cornering which I imagine is not the best way to get about. I am considering an economic 40mm drop using lowering springs. Is it worth it? or should I be spending more on a full kit?
  19. I think that any copper grease that was there was melted off at cadwell. Should be going to Donnington Park in July so really need to get them sorted. I have experienced further brake probs with my car being stood a couple of weeks. So in order of things to do, I should be looking at, Pads, Fluid, Hoses, 288s, 312s, 4pots yeh? I have seen a set of 288 discs for sale. If my pads and discs are shot anyway then I might get them, with reasonable pads and possibly the hose/fluid change. One thing that crossed my mind was if the fact I have std (4x4) ride height.. I think it made me work the brakes harder.. any truth in that? or my imagination?
  20. As my Storm is my 2nd car its normal that it only goes out for a run once a week. Often the brakes have a slight layer of rust and can be bound. Usually a couple of stabs of the brakes get it back to normal. Yesterday I took it out after it being stood for about 2 weeks, in that time its been outside with very heavy rain splashing the discs. Needless to say they were very bound up, fourtunatly the torque of a VR is enough to free it ;-) After a steady run from my house and the couple of gentle brake test the grinding noise was very loud. After 80 miles of a mix of roads and plenty of additional brake tests they are still noisy when applying pressure. They are still as effective, but not as good and not pulling up as straight when do a serious halt. Do you think that it will go away eventually? or are they beyond repair? If it is relevant I have had the brakes very hot recently when my sat nav got me stuck on at cadwell. Many Thanks
  21. Thanks for the advice, yes, cooling down laps were essential. I would only go out in short stints, couple warming up then maybe only 5 flying laps, the cool down. Any longer and your car, and more importantly your EGO, gets red hot! I think I need to decide if the Storm is the right starting point for my new addiction. It feels sacrelidge to modify or track it as I have put so much effort into its care and keeping off the miles. The plan is a few tracks this year, I would like to do Donnington, Brands. One day I want to head over to Nurburg too. Some thinking required..
  22. Hi, Spent today at Cadwell park today. I was an amazing day with one unfortunate side effect. I have become bitten by the trackday bug, need to go again, now! The biggest let down on the rado was the braking, had to brake very early and they went off too quickly for my liking, would like to do at least a 20min session without worrying about fade. Would a swap on the front for cross drilled / grooved discs help? with some better pads? If so do you have any suggestions? I am running 17s, so should I be considering a 288 or 312 conversion. Thanks in advance..
  23. Parcel2go will do them, might have to be 2 or 4 parcels. Also, someone like: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4443605897
