Hi Guys

Gonna change the valve cover gasket soon as oil running down the back of the engine block, So i ordered a new gasket from VW today, and thought i`ll get a head start by swapping out the m8x20 bolts that go from the rocker cover to the inlet manifold with some new ones i got.

Problem is managed to remove two of the four, but the other two have been completly rounded off, and of course theres no room to get anything on the bolt itselfs :brickwall:

Anyone got any ideas on the best way to remove them?

Thanks,

Ian

get an allen key that is slightly bigger than the rounded off hole (like 0.5mm- 1mm bigger) and smack it in. turn the bolt clock wise to break the seal then unscrew. oh sure u ken but wd40 is allways a good idea :D

Mole grips? Have you tried swearing at them?

No room for mole grips, and YES i sweared quite alot at them with no real joy :censored:

Supercharged, do you think theres enough room to use bolt grippers on it? (Sorry for the bad pictures, camera couldn`t focus on it for some reason)

looks a bit tight for the irwins, i'd try a larger allen key socket or drill the head off and hope you can get something on the remainder when you take the rocker cover off...
