  1. Aaaaah crap, i've been found out!! Its just one of those things, if you dont have a flat dont worry about it, if you ever get the car chipped to an aggressive spec then just take it from there.

    SNS chip

Sandy: The main difference between our maps and any other map is the No Lag code. As i mentioned, do a search in this forum for Digi-Lag. Peak power might not increase but then peak power figures dont mean much on the road! Let me put it this way, if Stig from Top Gear took 2 identical G60's around the track, one with Digi-Lag and the other without then i'm pretty sure which one will win. :D
  3. Best thing to do is not to mess with critical signals. Torque up the knock sensor as directed by the book and let it do its job. If the hall is wearing out, replace it. dont try and intercept the signal since the ecu does rely on this signal. You cant break the 100m record with a sprained ankle.
  4. So you'd be paying for a standard chip with a few load points adjusted, partly the reason why they cant cope with boost over 1bar! AND also why they finish at 6200rpm which is where the standard code finishes.
  5. This one has been doing our heads in at SNS, Pitstop and G-Werks. But we seem to be coming to the light at the end of the tunnel. Consider this: 2 G60 corrado's. Similar age, same mods. We put a stage 5 No Lag in car 1 and it goes mental - as expected, nice smooth power line good fuelling and No Lag. We put the same chip in car2 and it seems to be just as good until the car hits around 4800-5200rpm at which point the acceleration seems to die off then comes back in. a FLAT! WHY?? Same cars, same mods, no leaks etc, SAME CHIP!! AAAAAGGGHH Yes, we were losing it, hair has become thinner and bald patches have emerged! We all know that if there is something critical which is slightly faulty, you wont notice it at 160bhp and you probably wont see it so much more with a mild chip. But the fault will be aggravated and rear its head with an aggressive chip which is what we're all about since we can be more aggressive due to our No Lag © coding. So what could be causing this? After some head scratching, Pitstop identified the dizzy - in particular the hall sendor. Replacing this cleared the flat on cars they had in the garage with an SNS chip etc etc. To illustrate this, Steve himself started experiencing a flatspot in his G40 - a new dizzy cured the problem. So how could a hall sendor cause this? The hall sendor is a magnetic device and its getting old. In a lot of cases 10-13 years so its gonna be wearing out. If the shaft develops horizontal/vertical play then you will get phase/jitter which will cause a misread in the ecu. The ecu counts rpm twice, once per hall and once per revolution so if it sees a dodgy signal from the hall at some point it would have to go into safe mode. Safe mode would be the last line of the map ie. max injector which is safer than no injector. VW probably anticipated such a fault with wear, they wouldn’t be very good engineers if they didn’t! SO, at a certain rpm, the hall causes the ecu to misread – ecu shits itself and goes to last line of code – last line = max injector – too much fuel too early in the rpm means FLATSPOT!!! This is why with a custom map you can mask the problem since the mapper can fuel "around" the instance of a flat. You still got the mechanical fault though. make sense??
  6. The idle should not be running rich since idle is a closed loop operation which is controlled by ecu. The flat at 5k we have found to be in most cases an ageing hall sendor, i will be posting about this seperately. The thing is, all cars are different, we produce an optimum chip for certain mods which we have tested to show air/fuel under WOT at 12-13:1. Some cars which dont breath as well will run a bit rich but we always encourage customers to give feedback so we can optimise the chip - as in the case for Gazza who gave us some info and we tweaked his chip. Its always better to be rich than lean, so if your car is rich we can tune it to be leaner but safely. Struan: Did you check those vac lines? the fact that it still reads high CO with the standard injectors points to a vac leak.

    SNS chip

g-master: If you do a search on digi-lag in this forum, you'll find some discussions and explanations as to what its all about. :D
  8. I use Quantum gold in the G60 and quantum silver in the Gti. Good stuff! The first number (5 for gold 10 for silver) is the cold start rating: the low temperature viscosity where the "W" refers to low-temperature (40°C). While the second number refers to the oil viscosity at 100°C. So in theory, a 5W40 and a 10W40 should perform the same a operating temps but the 5W40 should be less viscous when cold.

    GUS G60

    8) Now you've "almost" got as much bling as me :D :D :D Very nice Gus, did you lower it again?!?! Hows the car running? You noticed the gain in performance with the cold weather :D you should do cos thats what we coded for :D
  10. If you're still using the 8v fuel pump then this might be the cause of the problem since as Gazza mentioned, they are weak! It will not provide the necessary flow for your capacity. Best thing is to upgrade to a 16v pump.
  11. Steve, will they be doing a wideband for each run as well?
  12. Man that is really nasty. I've been a victim of theft recently too but it was my car sounds, not the car and i was really pissed for weeks. Sorry man, its crazy because I had just sent your 30lb chip to liam on friday and then got a call from him today telling me what had happened. Hope you find it....and the idiots who did it.
  13. The SNS chips used in the cars at the stealth RR have been used in a number of G60's and most of them have produced a smooth power line with no flat at 5k. Some of them are on ths forum as well. The reason why our maps are particularly showing flats at 5k in some motors is due to the fact that we are able to be more aggressive in power extraction due to our No Lag response. Usually, tuners have to hold back on the power since the fuelling takes a moment to stabilise.
  14. It would really help if stealth did a wideband A/F during the run, this would show if the problem is with the fuelling. At 5k rpm we have seen some cars running good boost levels to exhibit this flat due to the injectors going static. Its a tough one to sort out since it could be a variety of things. Best thing to do for now Toby is for us to meet up and wideband your car, if its map related then we should be able to fix it. :)
  15. I had my charger stage 4'd by Jabba a couple years ago before I brought SNS over here, then a few months later I sent it to Pitstop for an inspection. Well basically the porting was very mild and the seals they used were inferior to the ones Pitstop/Gwerks use. Anyway, the boys ported my charger properly and it made a nice difference. Business always focuses on higher revenue sources which at the moment for jabba is the 20vT scene, cant blame them really. However its safe to say we (SNS), Pitstop and Gwerks have and are continuing to develop the G60 set up well beyond VW's original intentions :D
  16. Flatspots can occur for a number of reasons as highlighted. When you buy a chip from us you're buying a totally re-written code (not just a standard chip tweaked) to suit certain modifications. The chips are made to give maximum safe performance and so assume that engine components are up to the job. Any minor defect would be highlighted. On changing the hall sensor we did see the flatspot cease. A remap is basically incremental tweaks of the code while the car goes through the rev range. If there is a flatspot occuring then the programmer would try to eliminate this by adjusting fuelling/timing and if the flat is due to a defective engine component then getting rid of the flat usually means reducing the stress on the system hence the defect would be less provoked. Its a car specific thing. Remaps are the best way to get the highest peak hp from your car but no one can give you No Lag code :D PS go watch Kill Bill, its amazing!!!
  17. If you know exactly where you want to end up with your engine specs then you can order the chip now, but you wouldn't be able to use it until the engine is done, so maybe you should get the engine to where you want it and then order the chip. The fuelling on our chips is very good for the usual green injector set up, note when i say good i mean not leaner than 13:1 under WOT. The red injector set up has more variables since boost levels become an issue, however its always better to start on the rich side and tune to get right rather than start lean and tune to go richer. With regards to the FPR, you can get it with the chip from either myself or Pitstop. :D
  18. 15psi is no problem on the G60 engine, as long as you have correct fuelling of course!
  19. Good to hear your car is back migs!
  20. Steve, where's my set ????

    chips

Hi mate Yep, i supply the SNS chips to the UK and Europe. You'll need a 3.5bar FPR, 68mm pulley and shorter belt for the pulley to keep the correct tension. Or ou can go for a smaller pulley and bigger injectors but leave that for now. All the above i can supply with the chip. You can fit it yourself details can be found on the US SNS site http://www.snstuning.com or i'll do it for ya if you come down (or up) to me :D Hope that helps!
  22. Dont put a G60 pump in a 16v, the 16v units are better than the 8v ones.
  23. OK, you said "car was great before chip" so why not take the chip out and put the old one back in? If the car is fine then get a new chip?
  24. (at above coment) G60BOV - Get your charger rebuilt and flowed first, then make sure the car is running 100% by checking knock sensor (look for frayed wires) vac lines, o2 sensor, temp sensor, co pot etc Then you're ready to wake the G60 up 8)
