  1. Just checked the oil bottle. It was only 500ml I used to top it up. Still a little excessive for a 500 mile trip though. Any ideas on the ticking?
  2. I'm not complaining about the seller. I had every opportunity to check the car over and test drive it. So no probs there. I drove the car at 120 mph + for much of the trip back. And coming from the UK, the car's probably not used to doing more than 80 mph. So it's likely my hard driving that's caused the problem. Bloody fun drive it was too. Bumped into a bunch of Gumball Rally-ers on the way through Belgium. I just want to know if this ticking noise is a huge issue or something easily fixed and if I can drive the car in the meantime.
  3. Maybe not a litre. It was at MAX when I picked it up. When I arrived in Germany it was about 1/3 over the MIN mark. I'm still knackered from the 10 hours travelling. Apologies for not making that clear. Picked her up from Birmingham. Car was previously owned by a forum member.
  4. Picked up my new Corrado yesterday. 1995 Storm in Mystic Blue. Gave her a good going over before buying, including a hard test drive checking the brakes, handling, etc. All good. All engine fluids good. Oil at max on the dipstick. No mayo in the oil and coolant nice and clean. Car was just MOT'd this week too. 92300 miles on the clock. Bought the car from a Copper so don't suspect any antics. On the drive back to Germany from Birmingham I noticed she was running much hotter than my previous VR. Oil temp went up to 136 degrees at one point! Averaging around 120 degrees for most of the trip. I was driving her fairly hard, cruising at 110 - 120 mph on the continent. Had the common heat-soak problem preventing startup when I stopped for fuel. Passed after 10 minutes. More worrying is this:- Driving with the window down, I hear a "ticking" noise which increases in tempo with engine revs. It sounds just like a bicycle chain turning. Coming from the top of the engine. I was too tired to investigate much. But did notice half a litre of oil had been used on the drive back (500 miles). I topped this up and switched the car off for the night. Is it safe to drive her? Anyone seen a similar problem?
  5. Thanks for that OSV I had a search and found a few threads about these. So 4 mm has to be ground of the caliper. How about using spacers? Wheel offsets are something I know nothing about.
  6. Thanks for the advice and pics. 205/40 looks the way to go. Will I really have to modify to calipers?
  7. Ok chaps. Thanks for the advice. The wheels are such a bargain I gotta have 'em. I'll get 215's fitted and take it from there.
  8. So with these wheels I'm gonna have problems with tyres?
  9. Cheers Abdul! She's on Koni Coilovers. So I can play with the ride height. ET32 should fill the arches ok then?
  10. Feel a bit of a numpty for asking. But better safe than sorry. Looking for a nice set of Wheels. Found a bargain set of RH AGs. Fitment 8x17 ET32 5x100. PCD is ok but how about the rim width and offset? Don't want to get the arches rolled or have tyres scrubbing.
  11. That's like telling someone to dump their Girlfriend coz she's put on weight! Don't listen to him. Wait until the insurance get back to you. If they do write the car off you should be able to buy it back as salvage. Too good a car to see scrapped!
  12. Man that's some story. Really glad you got the car back. Probably best to sort the damage to the steering column yourself using second hand parts from here/scrapyard. I'd say a new steering column and labour from a VW dealer would be £££££ and they wouldn't do it right either. There might be a sympathetic VW Specialist in your area who can help. Worrying that they seemingly gained entry so easily....
  13. From memory. I just crimped into the two wires feeding the cig lighter and fed gear knob from there. zou can run the wires down behind the ashtray and into the gearknob from there.
  14. You got the name of that company vagingit ?
  15. If Poll250 hasn't taken it Bigpants I'm interested.

  17. muppetlab I don't know if you've done this already. But before swapping anything get the car plugged into a diagnostic computer and read/clear any faults from the ABS ECU. Someone with VAGCOM can do this or your local VW Stealer. My problem is the ABS ECU does not communicate at all with VAG Diagnostics. Hopefully yours will just be a wheel sensor. They're only £20 or so each and 10 minutes to replace.
  18. There's a shop on E-Bay selling reconditioned units for £70 - £100. http://tinyurl.com/yb6gw4k But the mechanic already tried a "known good" pump and it did squat :(
  19. Mine has the same thing going on. So please let us know how you get it fixed. I've already tried a new ECU and ABS Pump unit :( Mechanics bills are mounting up.

    ABS relays

@ Larkin what was the outcome in the end mate? Mine's doing exactly the same and the mechanic would be pulling his hair out if he had any :)
  21. Update. I sourced an ABS ECU from E-Bay. Still the same. Cannot read the unit in VAG-COM and ABS light is constantly on. :(
  22. Any luck with this Radness? Mine is doing the same and I took it to a Bosch dealer today. He plugged it into the Bosch computer and the same thing happened.
  23. Thanks for the tips. There's a VW Stealership near me so I'll call in and see if they can run a quick check. I'd rather get the problem sorted as ABS is handy to have in the winter months.
