  1. I know this isn't really a tyre thread as such, but I found that T1-S were nothing short of amazing, dry or wet! They did take a bit of running in and the feedback was a little worrying at times due to the relatively soft sidewall, but no problem with grip. Assuming of course that the tyre is the correct size for the wheel and the pressures are correct. As far as I'm aware, they haven't been in manufacture for years as it was replaced by the T1-R. So the OP could have really old tyres on.

They don't tend to check your car unless it looks a bit of a shed ;) However, the stresses you put on a car on track are far in excess of those you can on the road - no matter how fast you think you drive on the road. Looking at you location I'm guessing you might want to try Brands Hatch, if you were to do the Indy circuit you'll be braking from over 100mph to approx 30mph every minute. If your brakes aren't in tip top condition with some racey pads you'll have fade in a few laps and in the gravel after that :) So, as I said before, the car needs to be MOT-able, but in reality it needs to be better than that. Oh, they don't check for cats, but the car does need to pass noise regs - usually about 98dB.
  6. http://www.trackdays.co.uk iirc. They list most of uk and some European trackdays. I've done quite a lot, and hold a race licence. If you're new to it, try to get on a novice day first and book some tuition. There's no insurance on track unless you buy some, but most don't bother. Your car needs to be roadworthy and either have an MOT, capable of passing one or be able to pass scrutineering. Have a search for the blue book, it's got all the regs.

  8. Lol, yes the center caps - the speedline ones were falling apart, and I had a set of lotus caps lying around. The only work I've really done on the car is under the skin, brakes and suspension geometry mostly. Oh and a few electrical gremlins... Great car though, I'm still loving it :)
  9. Is there a guide on this anywhere? I'm curious! Changing width of wheels/tyres doesn't affect the tracking though.

  11. Good stuff. I've had to replace injector wiring before as well. The wires are subject to heat which seems to make them brittle.
  12. Only just catching up on the forum so missed this thread. I couldn't believe that the damage was bad enough for a write off. So happy for you that the outcome has been positive. We'll be expecting some after pics now :) Also, the other guys that have posted their damaged cars that have been repaired - wow! It's great that they're being saved, I see so few Corrados (or Sciroccos) on the road today :(
  13. Forums are amazing places :lol: I've never got on with EBC's pads, the discs are fine if a little soft. You really need to ask what type of driving are you doing - standard commuting, fast road or track days? For a good all round pad, I like Mintex M1144, Pagid RS4-2, Ferodo DS2500... But I doubt you'll find any of them for under £50, but do you want to scrimp on brake parts? For standard road driving however, I've found that standard Ferodo pads are excellent as I'm using them on my mk5 Golf GTi (they were even good for short stints (~5 laps) of track driving :) )

  16. I guess it stems from my previous job as a motorsport mechanic. Function before form and all that. Probably why I really enjoy the Autosport show. Anyway, I took some pics too. Not as many as I meant to for some reason! Surprising number of non-Dubs in the area... Want. (Very disappointed when I looked at it's stats and found that my Corrado is quicker). Still want though. Some super clean cars on the way in, I think part of the concours section. Strangely I didn't photograph the Scirocco Scala a couple of cars down. Maybe someone else did? Some engine to admire Nice wheels. This doesn't look right to me. Why block off the coolant pipe from the head and get rid of the expansion tank etc? Too much for the sake of a "clean bay"... I like the sticker :) Got arches? A couple of R8s were there. This one was particularly eye catching! And then we were all tired (it was a 5.30 start to the day).

  19. They do make lower powered ones. My wife has the 177 diesel and it's as quick as my VR6.

  21. I've had a very similar problem with regards to the bore. I had my fingers crossed that the wear wasn't too high in the cylinder as to lose compression. Mine seems to be fine at the moment, but it's a 9A running carbs. Maybe more of a problem for blow by, I put an oil catch can on in case of high crank case pressures, might be an option for you too.

  23. Did you have it jacked on one side? the ARB would be pushing the wishbone upwards.
  24. The Scirocco and mk1 Golfs have the problem of the servo being on the wrong side, so there's a pull rod assembly. It's this that needs checking over the years as it's fully adjustable. My mk2 Sciroccos have rock solid pedals. The other thing that came to mind though is that have you checked the rear calipers? They're on sliders too, so are prone to seizing. This can lead to a strangely spongy pedal as you're bending them rather than applying equal pressure with the pads. The results could be visible via the pads, eventually they will go wedge shaped.
