    what is this?? ABS??

Various people have it mate..... including my goodself and seeing as you are in Manchester and I live just outside Salford I could easily help you out.... Just check you have diags socket under gear shift cover Scott.
  4. Simple : ring them up and ask..... But in general its known as anything other than 'standard'.... that means induction kits, exhaust other than standard, Wheels other than standard as so on.... even changing the side repeaters is a mod!!! Scott.
  5. Its worth noting that legally driving a car without mods declared invalidates your insurance full stop therefore you are technically driving with no insurance.... which is illegal ...on your head be it but bear in mind if you hit / kill someone and the insurance finds out about your mods you will feel very stupid..... insurance isnt only to protect you its to protect others too....... what is this?? ABS??

Its not end of world - ABS problems on VW in 90% of cases are usually down to bad wiring / sensors so chill  Check breakers for warning lamp then plug in VAGCOM and locate fault codes although I imagine you could do this without warning lamp anyway!!! Scott
  7. 1.8 16V is group 15 2.0 16V is group 17 as is the G60 VR6 is group 18 VR6 Storm is group 19. These come from a very trustworthy source so no arguements
  8. Just done a compression test on VR – although difficult when I couldn’t locate fuel relay * Getting compressions of circa 140 – 150….. although its poss am doing the test wrong as always though you supposed to hold throttle wide open when turning engine oveR? Your thoughts? Cheers Scott

    Induction Kit

I am running a RAMAIR system on my VR6 with cold air feed (90mm alum duct pipe from front bumper) and although it sounds gorgeous when booting it past 4000rpm and gets lots of attention and comments - a few things I can say.... 1. It gets dirty very easily so regular cleaning is a must.. 2. Power gains depends on filter brand but I reckon Im seeing about 5bhp tops, throttle response is awesome and I can feel the difference but its not massive. 3. When in traffic the heat soak is ten times worse than a standard filter so you can LOSE power as the filter is just sucking in hot air and nothing else.... So there isnt that much in it and Im considering taking it off the VR at present although everyone is trying to talk me out of it as it does sound lovely *:) One of the lads on the CCGB had (RAMAIR) one and booted it down Oxford Road.... a lovely old dear gave him the two finger salute - class
  10. Oh and I assume the engine was cold when you did the measuring blocks screen????
  11. Nice one Kev *:) - I know VAGCOM inside out myself but just wanted workshop values really so I can check them against the values I have 8)

    smokin VR6

Well I never used to have problems with a Cav with 250k on the original engine and sounded fine and never used oil or water *;) I bought the VR6 with the thoughts of the engine going on forever I can hear alarms bells now and my head telling me to sell it ..............

    MOT - Emission test

Mine didnt.... something silly like 0.3% CO... LOL  - got the print out somewhere....
  14. Got to be a Porsche 968 GT3 if money not a problem.... Else would have to be a Audi RS6....

    smokin VR6

I'm sorry but yes they do, way before 200K. Number 6 is always the first to go, then number 1. Stealth have half a dozen knackered 2.9 blocks lying around the workshop, all with significantly less than 200K on them. You can see for yourself if/when you go to the rolling road day. Kev With bore wear or piston ring wear? - if you cant get 200k from a VW bottom end then doesnt say much for the VR6 engine.....
  16. Anymore info on those measuring blocks Kev? - been looking at my vagcom and could use some 'standardised' data like that
  17. Sorry mate but that is a write off no question.... from what I can see there you need: Two wings Bonnet Slam Panel Front Valence Front Bumper Front headlights / indicators / fog lamps / etc And also probably some jigging to the inside front wings dependent on how bad it is.... I would advise against buying it back if it requires jigging - it would never be the same.... The damage on my old valver was not as bad as that and I got quoted £4000 for parts / labour.... 11 months ago....... I know how your feeling though mate *:( Scott

    smokin VR6

These engines do NOT suffer from bore wear unless has done high mileage and I am talking past 200k miles..... What you describe is EXACTLY the same problem I have..... recently rolling roaded I got 192bhp - no mods so no problems with compression there... have had it checked out by specialist and confirm valve guides / seals need replacing ..... parts are cheap as said labour is not as timing chains need to come off etc.... not one to do things by skimping it would make sense to get the head full reconditioned whilst it is off. I reckon around £600 in labour plus parts.... more if you want head fully refurbed....

    G60 Top Speed

I assume your G60 is modified? I upset the driver of a brand new Mondeo ST200 last night on the M60... I reckons he'll be taking it back to ford now

    G60 Top Speed

    No idea about the G60 but can vouch for the VR6.... 1st - 0 to 30moh (but usually wheel spin) 2nd - 30 to 70mph 3rd - 70mph to 100mph 4th - 100mph to 125mph 5th - 125mph to ahem.... 150mph 8) Scott.
  21. I wonder what would have happened if the VR was on 15 inch wheels.....
  22. Your temps are fine.... Oil does NOT break down until it reaches 150degC plus.... this was actually stated in the manual for the MK1 Golf GTi :D - and obviously oils have come a long way since then.... Mine sits at 100deg C on a gentle A road drive.... but sits at 110 - 116deg on fast motorway driving.... and up to 126deg when blatting it very hard
  23. First change the fuel filter.... its one item that is over looked - if the fuel pump is still buzzing loudly then replace it.... as it may be defective.
  24. I get a bit of black smoke out of my VR6 at high revs..... a couple of the CCGB guys mentioned it to me when I went roaring past them with the RAMAIR yelling out (they loved it).... Am pretty sure its nowt to worry about though as mpg is pretty good!
