could be a ropey ign switch too, have you ever had the original replaced?
-
you can get generic rubber vac hose from any motor factor, Halfords is probably a bit on the expensive side but they do them there too. I can't imagine the rigid plastic connecting hoses are damaged, so just replace the rubber joiners on the ends.

Like I said in post 3     like I said in post 2

Anyone thinking of going the ph sunday service?

I might suggest the next SS meet is organised for the Carlsberg Brewery in Northampton, a) it's even nearer to me b) they could hone their organisational skills  for all we know the TVR clique are probably still going, just telling everyone it's been cancelled, that's how they seem to view everyone else anyway  -
a PAS rack from a low mileage pre 2001 ibiza 16v/cupra or mk3 golf GTI/VR, will do the job fine, got one myself for about 30 quid, corrado VR's have the ribbed alloy bodied type rack but all golfs seem to have the steel bodied 4cyl corrado type, just different track rods to swap over. try ringing VW, you may find they quote different prices for new .vs. exchange/recon, but don't expect it to be cheaper than £300 last time I rang about you could get a VW rack for about £150 exchange if you shopped about, try going direct to some of the hydraulics recon places you'll find searching the web, only thing is we've heard a range of experiences with recon racks as they use old (within-tolerance) parts with new seals etc. Oh, and all of you, get your basic car details and location in your sig and profile :nono: :)

actually, reading your initial post again, I'd check it's the motor and not the mechanism, it may well have stopped working becasue somethings bust or out of alignment in the mechanism and the motor is OK. If this is the case it's a headlining out job :( Can you operate the roof correctly both tilt and slide, with the allen key in the motor?
-
sunroof motor is a doddle and second hand is the way to go, pay no more than a tenner for one though.
-
twin speed golf mk2 or passat fan motor should do it, I bought a new one from GSF, wasn't too expensive.

damp inside car might just be leaky door membranes, damp that sits in the doors just evaporates into the car through the door cards. water leak could be anywhere, if you clean up joints you should see crusty dried antifreeze build up fairly quick, favourite locations are, faulty valve in header tank cap, plastic flanges to head, connection to oil cooler and metal water pipe, thermostat housing pipe, radiator leaks or even a water pump drive shaft leaking.

8v G60 or G60 limited, I know which one I'd have :D

a mk2 will be like going back 10 years in time from a Corrado, upright dash and simpler dials, very upright windscreen and very 80's interior, noisier too. even the factory electric window versions look like an aftermarket bodge  Might be fun, even an 1.8 8v, but a lot different to a C, even if so much is shared between them parts bin wise.
-
yeah, I'm sure that's empty with no sunroof, ABS, electric windows, adjustable steering column and the 1.8 engine with small fuel tank, lol! looks like they didn't update the info if your 2L manual says 1100. Have you done a fixed steering column? they're much lighter than the heavy UJ adjustable one.
-
yeah, good point, apparently lots of the cheaper manifolds are LHD ones imported, ones designed for RHD would probably be Miltek/TSR or something early from GTI Engineering or BRM circa 1990. Good thread on 16v manifolds on club GTI ATM.
-
excellent! 100kg is a fair old weight, you've got it down to mk2 golf territory, seems like the VW figures are right, 1150kg for an early 1.8 valver, not sure about a late 2L, you've got a later car with a sunroof, large fuel tank, ABS and lots of small changes that would make it more than 1150kg I can't remember, does the manual list kerb weight or empty weight with fluids but no fuel or driver?
-
is it intended for a mk3 golf?, the 16v ABF engine block in those is about 10mm higher, so a manifold made for that engine would be too low on a 9a (2L 16v) engined Corrado.

Robert Bentley manual (for US spec 2.8 corrado) is the nearest

take the alternator belt off and spin it by hand, shouldn't make a roaring noise, if it does they are badly worn, with the voltage regulator removed from the back of the alt it should be totally silent spinning, any good motor refurb place should be able to source and fit new bearings but an exchange unit is the easiest thing to do usually.
-
well, cheapest things first, I'd whack a new PAS belt on and change the fluid. Then if you think it's steering gear related, check for play in the track rods, inner joints to the rack and the outer ball joints, suspension top mounts, bottom ball joints on the wishbones and the main rear bush on the wishbones. All of these things will produce wierd movement like torque steer under acceleration. If mechanically there's no play in the above then the rack may be tired and the pump possibly past it's best. It's a bit difficult to diagnose from a few lines of text, but as the rack is the hardest item to replace and the most expensive I'd get everything else checked out first.

there's a KFC just down the road  The VW centre is easy to get to, few hundred yards off the A5, but I guess a few people will be coming in off the M1 which is a bit more of a pain to get to it from. google maps location Image1.jpg[/attachment:18n0twfg] -
VW system uses green LHM type fluid, VAG dealership or GSF/ECP will have the stuff. lowest point in the system is the pump at the front left of the engine, so you'll need to at least remove the fill hose from the pump to drain most of it out, I think this should just be a jubilee clip on the G60. Fill it back up from the header tank and work the steering left to right to get all of the air out of the rack (it will whine from the rack until this is done). The pump should be primed really by turning before you run the engine, but in practice the fluid normally drains through the pump with the hose disconnected, so you could start to fill from the header tank until fluid starts to leak out and then clip the hose back up to the pump body. Run it for a while and then drain again, you'll probably find the fluid gets quite discoloured again so I reckon it's worth a couple of quid for a second bottle of fluid. 1L is enough for the system, so buy two if you want to flush it through.

at least 12 corrados on the list now, but 46 golfs! -
16v? G60? sounds like the valving in your rack is a bit worn, worth draining and refilling the PAS fluide a couple of times to flush it out.
