  1. looks about 500 quid overpriced if you ask me, even if it does have a new battery  needs new front discs as well.
  2. Just ask them for mk2 16v hoses to and from matrix, the parts guy should be fine with that. I'm using silicon hoses from SFS, one reducing 90 deg elbow (from head flange) and a 1m length of SFS hose cut into two lengths. Elbow and straight length clamped together with an SFS alloy hose joiner, matches my blue samco hoses nicely and fits fine. Cost under 30 quid all in.
  3. take a good long look underneath, along the sills and in particular where the sills join the rear wheel arch. You're right, that hole in the wing is a common place for them to go and not really damage related and could well indicate more of the underneath is in a similar state.
  4. do you have the paint code from vw for pink ??? B&Q will match it for you, their matt emulsion is probably better wearing than VW reds anyway.
  5. yuck, chances are the whole bottom part of that wing is rotten, needs removing and repairing if possible, although a good second hand wing resprayed will probably be a better bet.
  6. warm it with a hair dryer to make it a bit more compliant, then, try levering it like I said, probably best at one corner.
  7. fingers? just pull it out? perhaps use the end of a clothes peg or something not too hard/sharp to lift the edge of the seal.
  8. Exactly what the g/f bought me for xmas ! I really like my 255WT, but Garmin rip you off for map updates, at £100 quid you might as well buy a new one :mad2:
  9. There's certainly something about all of them that gets people hooked, they've always been a fairly rare sight on the roads, they've got a VW badge and a good reputation for handling and you can't argue with the sound of the VR. One thing's for sure, you wouldn't be writing that if you had a Probe or a Calibra instead
  10. all cars: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8456116.stm Corrado info 2007: corradomot2007.jpg[/attachment:3hsy9mk0] does this mean there are only 3,012 left? (No. of test passes in 2007) there's also more capris left on the road than corrados
  11. golf doesn't have a hydraulic clutch, but it is the same as a passat part, GSF can be rubbish at identifying items that are fitted to other VW models.
  12. 2L 16v will have an ABS pump (although this was an option on 1.8 16v) a black plastic cover over the front half of the fuel metering head on the LHS of engine bay and only five fuel lines crossing front of engine (1.8 has 2 more going to right of head) If it has the original cam belt cover, there should be a label with 9A printed on it, that engine code should also be on the sticker in the boot.
  13. Is that the bright/lightish metallic blue?, one of my favourites in small bumpers, with the open air ducts in the front spoiler, they just looked spot on, standard 16v ride height too. There's a woman at work here with one, it's starting to get a little scruffy round the edges but looks in pretty good nick for it's age and totally original, seems to just be used as regular daily transport, one of these days I'll have to offer her a couple of hundred quid for it :)

    Passat seats ?

Corrado seat base frames are very low and the bases quite thin, pretty much anything from another VW needs frame base modifiction to sit anything like low enough.
  15. sometimes I think some battery prices are just hiked a bit to cover the longer warrantys and are no different to the lower priced ones with shorter warrantys, having said that I've claimed for a new one after three years, so if you use the car infrequently and it gets less of a regular workout it's probably worth the extra cover.
  16. VW serpentine belts and tensionners don't seem to be the best of designs, mk4 golf ones are no better, petrol and diesel alike, tensionner pulley and idler pulley bearings are crap and the belts squeek too, makes no difference if pattern or VAG. They simply need changing from time to time.
  17. just an ordinary mk3 matrix will do you fine, in fact they should be the same part as what's stocked for a mk2 or Corrado, if GSF do a Valeo one then go for that, otherwise the best quality and longest lasting will be from VAG themselves. It's only the old 1990 ish era genuine VW matrixes that had the iffy end caps and needed the by-pass valves, but I'm sure there's more than one pattern matrix out there that is of questionable quality. I'd take the old one out and compare it to the new one at the GSF/ECP desk, if it's anything like the radiators then the quality differences will be obvious.
  18. could be fuel pump related, could be warm up regulator, if you can find someone with a fuel pressure gauge and the correct unions to connect to the K-ket system I can give you all the system and holding pressure info. Because you get an extra squirt of fuel from the cold start injector when the engine is cold it's easier for the engine to get enough atomised fuel to fire when cold, when hot, the main injectors are on their own, so if that part of the sytem is weak that might be causing the problem. If you pull out the fuel pump relay, bridge the fusebourd with a wire with two spade connectors, and use the battery negative lead to connect and disconnect the power, you can run the fuel pump to spray the injectors into bottles. You just need to pop the airbox apart and lift the metering arm/flap slightly. This way you can inspect the spray pattern of the injectors to see if they have good cone shaped spray, or if they squirt like a water pistol lol. You can do the injector test without any special tools, so that's worth checking before finding someone to check the system pressures.
  19. I think we've covered all this, the by-pass valves seem to operate correctly and the flow of warm water suggests the matrix head is allowing a flow of hot water in and out but the matrix core itself is not flowing. My bet is a the matrix needs replacing but the cores are not actually leaking. Once it's replaced it can be sawn in half to prove the problem :)
  20. I've changed the coolant umpteen times on the valver, all you need to do is top up the last litre or two slowly into the header tank, a 2L coke bottle with a screwdriver stab or two in the top does the trick nicely, and you can stand it up on the header tank and leave it. You may or may not need to top up a cupful of coolant after the first drive (one full heating and cooling cycle), but I've never had more trouble than that.
  21. I've had GSF ones on for years and years, in fact they are probably over ten years old now, I'm not sure but I think they are beru too, no problems at all, the coil lead is starting to get a bit out of tolerance, resistance wise, but you'd expect that as it's feeding all 4 plug leads, I'll probably just swap that with a single generic coil lead. Only thing about GSF is their suppliers vary, so you need to inspect what they are offering you before you buy.
  22. firstly, the adjustable column isn't a great design and will always feel like it's got more play in than a fixed column, and secondly, the joint that provides the height adjustment is a specially designed item and riveted or pressed in as part of the whole column, I'm not saying it couldn't be rebuilt, but you'd need some specialist pressing and machining tools and to get components fabricated. If you really want an adjustable column then at least one person has made up brackets to fit an entire mk4 golf column, then you get height and reach adjustment, but that's a lot more involved.
  23. if you mean wheel bearing housing, then it's the same as an ABF (mk3 16v) and VR6 golf, which is the same again as a VR6 Corrado (all plus axle cars). If you mean brake carrier, then all mk3 GTI's switched to 288mm brakes from 280's on the first year or so of production, the early 280mm carriers being the same as G60/VR6 ones.
  24. My wife loves driving the Corrado on a cold morning as it spews out warm air within less than a minute of starting, I think it's a combination of the 16v's short distance from the main head water outlet to the matrix and the fact that valver heads tend to run warm and warm up quick. It's so much better than the 1.6 16v mk4 we have, that has always taken much longer to give you warm air even if the engine gets to temp far faster than the corrado does, you can't beat air con for demisting though, and the father-in-laws mondeo quick clear front screen is brilliant too.
