Glad it seems to be cured Kev. :D It is worth bearing in mind that changing just one of the suspension components will accelerate wear on both the new part as well as the old ones. Exactly the same problem comes from just changing the 'broken' engine mount as oppossed to all 3 as well. On a side note who new that you are suppossed to lossen all of the mounts and rock the engine to assure a 'stress free' position?? I think that it would be worth advising people who are considering suspension upgrades that it is well worth getting new wishbones and tie-rods as part of the package. (CV's shouldn't wear anywhere near as badly and that will add some serious cash to the final bill if you change those as well)

I didn't say it wasn't on the e-group - I am on the 16vG60 usergroup - just that I find the layout and organisation of the yahoo setup pants at best, and the KB is well structured by comparison. As for who wrote what first, most of it should come from the VAG manuals for the C that are sat next to me... My point was that if we are a collective bunch of children on the forum (to paraphrase the original comment) then we should not be capable of producing the quality of some of the articles on the KB.

I find the G60/16v ones give a metallic crashing noise when travelling overs bumps in the road.

I and others quite often benefit from free tickets sent to the club from event organisers who want to see the ccgb at their events. Must have to know the right people for that then.. Billingja - Great idea to organise a show open to all as oppossed to the bi-annual national days that are CCGB members only. I don't like the yahoo user groups - I think the layout is poor and getting information from it is like pulling teeth/blood from a stone etc. There still seem to be lots of random figures being banded around with reference to financing, and who uses what form of media etc. At the moment I pay more per year to use the forum than I do for last years membership costs of the CCGB. The flip side to that is that I have had more out of the forum that I have out the CCGB by a long way. As for this 'wet behind the ears' comment then I would refer the individual concerned to the KB and the quality of the articles in there. (not trying to be bitchy but sweeping generalisations like that do no-one any favours)

Should be easy to spot as the redline will be at 8k instead of 7k if its 16v ones.

Looks like the 'rat might get saved! Opinions..

Difficult one on the engine front, I would plump for the Tdi, likely to be more desireable to a bigger group of people that way. If you stick the VR in its going to narrow your market somewhat. Hope you manage to save her. -
OK folks here is the score with top mounts. There ARE 2 main types of top mount that can be fitted but there are also some revisions within the second type. The first type of top mounts were designed for the 1.8 G60/16v and also used on all but the very late 2.0 8v/16v. These are fairly hefty bits of rubber and the spring caps will retain a spring that is 105mm in diameter. The next type of top mount assembly is the one that is commonly referred to as the VR type. What is often overlooked is that this type of top mount assembly was also fitted to late 2.0l 8v/16v cars as well. The revision to this set-up came in 06.93 when the spring cap was changed from an item that would retain a 105mm spring to an item that would only retain a 92mm spring. The bump stop, bellows and coil springs were also altered at the same time. The only company that supplies lowering springs in a 92mm size is PI (Thanks 2cc for that one) The reason for this change to a smaller diameter spring cap was to improve ride and suspension response. It is also worth noting that all the earlier types of suspension can be retrofitted with the later ones. I would not recommend fitting 3rd party components for use in top mounts assemblies as this is a critical part of the car. If you get coilovers then you should get a new set of top mounts supplied with them.

Walesy it would be worth checking the gearbox code as the original may have been swaped for a unit with a different set of ratios.

Yes, it does Jay...

Changed the interior bulb as it had blown...

Mnn nice. Someone keep NickVr6 out of this thread..

Er, without wishing to sound a bit of an idiot what is it stamped on? As I show it as being a flywheel, but it's no longer available and the replacement has been dropped as well. Oh, that's my 1000 posts!

Indeedy. I think the sense of community between the CF and CCGB (E38 last year for example) would suffer if it forced members/users to choose between one or the other; if the forum started offering a club style service. Maybe not a merger between the two but much closer official ties would be of great benefit to everyone. I would be happier seeing some of my subs that have paid for a Sprinter I didn't get going to Andi to run the forum instead.
-
Interesting point about the bolt holes on the rack being enlarged, Jay could you get an exact internal diameter from your new rack so we have a reference?
-
Jim you could always check it by mixing up some washing up liquid and water and putting it in a squirty bottle. Check for leaks by squirting around the bead, valve etc. At least you will know what it is then; as for a puncture repair thats a cheap fix too at around a tenner.

Bit of history on the Corrado, it is a Mk3 Rocco

Nice. I just hope VW are listening. -
I would like to see both the CCGB and CF merge into the same entity; looking through the back issues of the Sprinter the forum is organising many of the events that the CCGB used to (RR days etc) As both Eric and John have already said a fragmented scence is counter-productive to the main reason we are all here - a common interest in our cars. As for not being willing to dig into my pocket and getting something for nothing I continue to be a fully paid up member of the CCGB despite only receiving a total 2 Sprinters in over 2 years of membership and I pay a sub to Andi every month for the running of the forum. On the opposite end of the scale and this is not a dig at anyone as an 'armchair' critic I have been a member of a very successful car club. The Triumph Sports Six Club is very active and well run with a club museum that is free for members and enough clout to get parts manufactured. After speaking to 2cc about the Karmann trip last year I was told that Karmann would consider making new panels (early bonnets anyone?) if there was enough interest. Whilst I appreciate this is complex maybe it is the direction to aim for. Can I organise this ? Simply no, my new job means I have to move to near Inverness and I am not going to be in the country for around 3 months of the year but I am willing to help out when and where I can.

Just 'bolting on' the G60 supercharger to a 16v should kick out around 210bhp. If you fiddle with lots of other components to improve your gas flows and charge air temps and get the 'charger borred out to R1 etc then the setup is capable of over 300bhp. Both Henny and Blue Joe are at the limits of the original PG block and charger setup in an 8v form and are looking at around 300bhp but this appears to be the limit for a 1.9-2l 8v block.

What size is a G60 Rad Fan so I can replace poss with Pacet?
Yandards replied to Blue_Joe's topic in Engine Bay
Sam the original G60 fan is 250/150w with a 305mm diameter fan blade. IIRC the higher wattage one is used for aircon cars. -
Mine G60 16v) was due to go in before the RR but I have to move up to Scotland with work in about a month so I have no time to get it fitted. I wasn't worried about getting the engine swapped over just that I didn't think I would get chance to sort out all the teething trouble and the last thing I want to do is make a bodge of it after 2 years. On the plus side the house we are looking at has a 23x26ft garage to play in  :multi:

The paper in the H&R box recommends over 1000km to settle in prior to setting up the wheel alignment.
-
Daz I assume you would be able to supply the front alternator mounting brackets instead of the rear ones as they don't fit on a C.
-
You want the 5th gear cog and ancils from a Golf Tdi gear box, ASD type if I remember rightly. This wil be a straight fit into your box and should lower your revs at speed quite a bit from standard. I am in the middle of this but have managed to shear the head from the bolt holding the 5th cog onto the end of the main shaft.
