  1. Mis read your last post if you leave the cap off it will come out. As the water heats up it expands and the excess water is pushed into the expansion tank as the water expands it creates pressure so as the water got hot it came out as the cap is required to maintain pressure. I don't know about on a 2l 8v but on the G60 you don't have to take off cam belt to change water pump. Cant see them changing the design that much.

  2. 92 was the change over for wings bonnet 93 was interior ie dash and door cards. I've got a 92 G60 with late wings and early interior. Any late wing from either a valver or vr will fit same for bonnet. If you go early wings you should really go early bonnet to get panel gaps right. Also grill changed in 92

  3. Will probably end up going custom built. But I do like the idea of being able to fit it myself. I guess what I was asking is are the hangers in the same place as the vr's as it has the later wings and bonnet being a 92.

  4. Been over a year now since I last posted on hear and literally notching has been done to either of my G60's mainly due to my new job leaving me less spare time. I was using Corby as a daily for work until she started to over heat. Pulled out the thermostat and it was working ok but the housing warped so wouldn't make a seal. Failed the sniff test so suspected head gasket gone. So she has been sat in the garage since april while I save up the money for parts. My mate from work who is a mechanic turned fitter is coming round to help me take it all apart so I can send the head off to be crack tested / skimmed and possibly a cheeky port polish depending on cost. Will also hone (spelling) out the bores and renew piston rings. Only problem is I don't know which engine to do it too. Option 1 is to do the rebuild on corbys engine while in the car which means I won't be able to paint the block as well as I could which will bug me. Or drop the engine out of Donner (don't ask) on the cross member and clean/paint every thing then swap it all over. Thoughts?

  5. Goldfinger if you want some Saturday work you can come to work with me lol bit of a drive though. Tbh its a whole different work helping a mate do the odd resto but to do it day in day out like I do does suck alot of the fun out of it.

  6. Chips away do what are called smart repairs which involves repairs to scratches dents and will involve painting where as pdr (paintless dent repair) doesn't require paint as the dents are pushed out from behind the panel with rods so the repairs are cheaper to customer. We sometimes use a pdr guy at my work (I work in accident repair) and he can come and go in an hour and earn over £200 a time. The other added bonus is no need for a big van full of tools like smart repair.

  7. Body tape will be more than enough on its own as long as all surfaces are clean. You could even give the paint a little key up and wipe over with panel wipe. Also warming up the tape will help it stick better.

  8. I'd have liked to think because it is also a VW approved garage they would have a good warranty on the paint

Spoke to our paint man today. He thinks the paint has shrunk that's why it has gone like that. My guess is they didn't bother to remove the rub strip. Which has allowed dirt under the paint followed by water. Do you know if they used 2k base or water base? Also did you choose the garage or the insurance company? If it was the insurance company maybe you might get somewhere there. We do reworks all the time and nobody batters an eye lid so you might be surprised. From what I can see it looks like it will need the paint to be taken right back to almost bare metal with the strip removed. Then blend the door again with strip off.

  9. Do you mean the one in thurock retail park? If so I went to see them about having an exhaust built and I'm still waiting for a call back over 4 years later. Didn't fill me with alot of confidence as far as customer care goes.
