  1. Yeah I'll do the same - seems a good idea :) So the fan controller is what switches the fans on during after run? I'm purely trying to see if theres a way to not have it once the 24v is in! I might be way off here - but if the ECU in the Mk5 R32 handles after run with the aux pump, surely the same signal can be used for the fans...? It just depends whether the ECU is limited to activating the aux pump on switching the ignition on, or whether it also activates it on after run.
  2. Yep Tom thats what I meant but didnt explain clearly! So if Speed 3 is activated as such - your fans won't begin spinning faster - they'll already be spinning at their single speed - correct?
  3. Hey Dave - hows it going? Do you mind me asking what the "CrazyController" is you're working on? :)
  4. Thanks guys Yeah I can use the VR thermostat and pipework - but I want a layout as per Mk4/5 Golf. And keep as much of the 24v stuff as I can. Good suggestions about checking on VAG-COM and the fan switch.. I'll probably wait till I change the radiator and switch anyway - I've got new ones ready to go in. My fans now only have one speed - which is triggered off the fan switch then - therefore speed 3 will never happen. Is it the fan controller than runs the fans as part of after run (i.e. switching off the engine with a temp reading of over 95C) - along side the aux pump? I wonder if ME7 handles the fans in addition to the aux pump. If it did then I can see a need to keep the fan controller? The R32 housing can take the grey/green temp sensor which replaces the 12v's blue sensor - and the yellow one can be kept to keep the clocks happy. What am I missing - sure theres something!! :) Thanks again
  5. I'm working out what route I go with the thermostat housing and pipework with a conversion I'm doing, using a Mk5 R32 into a 94 VR. To my knowledge, the VR housing has three sensors, yellow for the clocks, blue for the ECU and a black sensor for the fan controller. However the R32 housing has two spaces, one for a temp sensor, another spare. I've already replaced my stock fans with slim line Spal fans, which come on at one speed only around 100C (which I'd prefer reduced to around 95C personally). My aux pump and fans run when expected on ignition and on after run. My question is - on moving to an R32 - is it possible to not use the fan controller, use the r32 housing with the yellow temp sensor in the spare slot to feed the gauges? I'm not sure how the aux pump is controlled on the r32 but assume it's done by the ecu not the fan controller? Also the fans even now just come on or off. It's not completely clear to me - so any help would be great if possible! Hopefully somebody can help! :)
  6. I'm not 100% sure - but I think theres a slight difference between Mk3 and Corrado subframes. Are you going to go widetrack too?
  7. Thats quite a distance then! What do you do for a living out there? Other pics look very nice - climate and scenery look superb. Makes keeping the RS' in good nick a bit easier too ;) In London lived in Ruislip, Ealing, Richmond and now near Uxbridge. You can get fantastic work here - hence making the move from Scotland (aside from my gf being here already) - but the quality of life has taken a hit. Still, gets the pennies saved... Can appreciate what you say about Sydney and congestion - thats one thing I moan to my gf about all the time! Its 2.5 weeks now till the trip starts - can't wait to get out there :)
  8. If it's a day job, London is an hour away from leamington spa
  9. you should sell the vortech and go for a drive in the alps with it ;) is the kit pretty much the same design as the 12v kit?
  10. CoxyLaad would you mind explaining what that is please? I'm not familiar whats involved
  11. No worries mate :) I ordered my pedal and a load of other things today, found out there's a bracket you can order that's used to secure the pedal to the floor. You just need the bracket spot welded to the floor, I.e no screws into the floor. Can get you a part number if you want to do that? Also do you want a blanking plate for the air pump injector (behind the head)? Would you mind if I asked a favour too? ;) any chance you could tell me what part number is on your servo vacuum pipe off the inlet? And a photo of that area? Would be a great help mate! Good luck today btw
  12. Think she spent 3-4 years between Melbourne and Gibbsland. Since we're only visiting for a week we won't go much further than surrounding Melbourne - maybe to Twelve Apostles on the great ocean road and gibbsland. I'd like to go to Sydney and Queensland next time - I'd read various opinions about both Sydney/Melbourne being a good compromise between city/outdoors - but imagine Sydney to be the Aus equivalent to London. Do you work in Sydney? After coming from Scotland/Aus to London for a few years I think we'd both like to get back more space/time and do outdoor stuff more again.
  13. beautiful photos... Gf and I are testing the water in 3 weeks, we may be thinking about moving out there. She's already lived there for a few years - I think she misses it. I encourage any more photos you've got of Aus to be posted up!!! ;)
  14. best of luck getting it finished mate! eager to see the results
  15. Are you getting an o2m fitted or a 6sp kit for the o2a?
  16. Going there for a week as part of a trip to malaysia for 3-4 weeks (since the gf is from there). Her sister is out there so we're going out for a short visit. Not been before so excited to go :) I've read all sorts between Melbourne and Sydney etc. Being in London at the moment I'm used to busy cities, but to be honest, when going away I prefer laid back places, so curious how I'll find Melbourne. Cheers for the tips :) I can't wait to get the gearbox done - should make a huge difference. And that sound :) Regarding the RS' - no idea whether the RS' will work with AP's. I remember chatting to Kev about the thickness of the stadnard kit bells - so the standard 15mm thick bells could work. And not sure if the bolts at the back of the eyelets will foul the calipers - depends on the shape of the calipers. Best thing to do is try them against your car Kev next time I see you. I weighed them last night - between 8.5-9Kgs each (without a tyre fitted). Not fantastic - but not bad either.
  17. where does this make the wheel sit in terms of the adjustable top-middle-bottom settings?
  18. Hi mate - yes this is the first swap. Will be a good way to learn more about the car... I got the engine for £900 then £300 for the loom/ecu. Its a 2007 BUB engine thats done extremely low mileage. There's a quite a few available to my knowledge - best thing to do is wait for one to come up on the likes of Edition38 - people on there chop and change regularly - and prices are quite reasonable. By the time you've sold the bits you don't need and the 12v bits you won't keep, you've already made a sizable portion of your expenditure back. So it was a no brainer for me personally. I went to see herisites conversion and the rate that its come together is very inspiring. Hence me testing the water with your VRT decisions! As for brakes - I know the 312s fit - and have them fitted at the moment, but I'll have to go for APs eventually - always craved for a set - so we'll see what will happen with the RS'! BTW I'm going to Melbourne in a few weeks - anything you'd recommend during a week visit?
