how about this one, just googled vw golf generations. its quite depressing to see how much lardier and dull it has become with each incarnation, at least i dont think it can get any worse than the mk3

there are not really any more electrical issues with the corrado than any other car, apart from a crappy headlight loom which means the headlights produce about as much light as a pair of fireflies attached to the front of the car, uprated looms are availiable or you can make your own. The resistor pack on the side of the blower fan is another popular one, it has a thermal fuse built in and causes the fan to only work on possition 4 when it fails, but its cheap and only takes about 2 minutes to change. Any other electrical problems are usually caused by idiot aftermarket alarm installers, or by not disconnecting the blue and white wire when fitting a new stereo, the blue and white wire behind the stereo is a speed signal wire and if connected incorrectly usually blows the spoiler control module. sunroof motors, window motors and the spoiler motors do also fail, but that is usually caused by lack of lubrication and maintainance, if the motor sounds like it is straining the mechanism should be stripped down cleaned and re-greased.

I had similar symptoms which where caused by a sticky closed throttle switch, it would idle fine but as soon as i gave it any throttle it would splutter and backfire into the inlet manifold, check the output from the closed throttle microswitch to make sure it changes when the throttle is opened.

Sorry, like it says in my sig its a G60  the torque figure is from the dodgy russian site with all the vw workshop manuals here

yep my 91 g60 definately had the slotted nut, also an air ratchet is a very quick and easy way to remove the top nut, takes about 1 second and no bleeding knuckles.

wasnt the De Lorean designed by the same guy who designed the scirocco and corrado? I wonder if the current management of the De Lorean company are also using it as a cover for drug dealing

Well here are the wind tunnel pics for the corrado

I noticed there where a few spots of oil on the ground where my car had been parked a couple of weeks ago and i just put it down to a leaky camshaft cover gasket, i replaced the gasket last week and it didnt stop the oil so after a bit of poking around i discovered that the camshaft oil seal had popped out and was happily spinning round on the camshaft sprocket :( i did manage to push the seal back in but it didnt seem a very tight fit and just popped back out after a couple of days, which also stopped me going to the summer scorcher  There doesnt appear to be any excess pressure coming from the breather and it seems to be running as normal, i think it has just gone loose as a result of being removed and reinstalled a few times. I have got a spare seal that came with my headgasket set but i didnt change it at the time, so i need to remove the camshaft sprocket to fit the new seal, i cant seem to find any info about locking the camshaft pulley while undoing the bolt and whether its a strtch bolt or not all i have managed to find is that it should be torqued up to 80nm (58ftlb)any ideas?

EDIT DOH!! BEAT ME TO IT. The spoiler is not meant to increase downforce it is meant to reduce end lift (according to the vw poster ad i have by 64% ) spoilers reduce lift , aerofoils increase downforce....... i think????? :? . by lowering the car it would change the aerodynamic characteristics of the car anyway, and the only real way to find out if it made any difference at all would be to chuck it in a wind tunnel as i would imagine the difference would be so minimal that it would be near impossible to detect on the road. I still dont really care, i still hav'nt got bored of the look on peoples faces when they see it move, and its one of the features of the corrado that sets it apart from others in its class.

doesnt look too bad, and you should be able to get a replacement wing in the correct colour without much hassle, most likely cause of the grinding noise is a bit of gravel between the metal brake guard and the disk or maybe the metal guard has been slightly bent and is now touching the disk.

the single bolt inside the silencer box is a 13mm (or 1/2inch if your old school) and can easily be reached through the outlet hole with an extension bar with either a wobble adapter on the end or a halfords pro extension with the rounded end. like has been said though if you do try undoing the 10mm bolts around the outside its quite likely they will snap or the captive nuts will break loose.

I did have one of these SNORSE hanging from my rear view mirror, its a model of a chracter designed by pete fowler that also features in the super furry animals video "hello sunshine" but i seem to have lost it after the last time i cleaned the car out :(

if its refering to the sniffer pipe that lets you check the exhaust gasses before the cat, its a small metal tube with a light blue rubber cap on the end and can usually be found at the rear left of the engine bay as you look at it from the front, you can usually see them wobbling side to side when the engine is running as the brakets that hold the pipe to the exhaust manifold are usually rusted through.
-
thats what its designed for but if it does break (which has never happened to me) you should be able to replace it with a metal screw with the same thread.
-
on the end of the lever that pushes down on the catch mechanism there should be a white plastic bit which is adjustable, just twist it anti-clockwise and it should extend to open the catch sooner.
-
it should be ok unless you have air con as well, on vehicles without aircon the v-belt drives the power steering pump only, but on vehicles with aircon the v-belt drives the power steering and the water pump.

if you increase the size and power of the front brakes the rear becomes even lighter under hard braking, so in theory smaller rear brakes would be better with big front brakes, the only time you would need to increase the size of the rear brakes is if you had an engine in the back. they do look crap under big wheels though.

i suppose if you managed to find another branch with similar chimp-like staff, you may still be able to get the same offer  I wont be going to BVF as i will probably be on my way to khartoum, still waiting to find out though.

It certainly cost RAC more than a grand when they did my windscreen  2 x windscreens................... £230 each replacement bonnet and hinges. £80 replacement windscreen trim.... £75 complete re-spray .................£1650 muppet who screwed it up in the first place getting fired.....priceless.

It's also worth trying a different gear knob, the standard corrado one is quite tall so it extends the throw, i fitted a seat leon gear knob which is pretty much hollow all the way to the top so it sits a couple of inches lower, but still looks OEM, you could probably also cut a bit off the top of the shifter to shorten it even more.

have you got any photo's of the connector on the rear of the stereo? i might have one lying around or i may be able to get one for you.

Corrado Dragster, not the 1.8T, a Chevy V8!
coolrado replied to gsbellew's topic in General Car Chat
when are you running it again? i loved watching it at S.O.A it was the first time i had been to see the drag racing since i was a little kid with a friend of ours Mike Morris with his chevvy powered ford pop called "fizzy pop", it was still road legal at the time, i still remember when he locked the front wheels and did a burn out in the local village to test his new diff lock and ended up digging two 3 inch deep holes in the road  that was about 16 years ago and there are still ruts in the road :) -
as the weather is a little warmer at the moment it might be worth using a hair dryer rather than a heat gun, there is no risk of burning the paint or rubber trim then, mine came off easily with hot water and car wash shampoo, carefull not to bend the trim at too sharp of an angle when you pull it off or it will kink and its difficult to straighten it again if you ever want to re-fit it.

A mystery about US and UK G60's and interference engines...
coolrado replied to potatonet's topic in Engine Bay
I have heard of uk G60's with snapped cambelts and sheared key's which have not bent any valves but i have also seen others that have bent every single valve, it seems like they will only make contact if the belt snaps at very high RPM seems more like luck to me.
