  1. Yeah drain all the old crud out first. There's a drain screw on the long plastic pipe that goes along the front of the block, it's above and to the left of the oil filter housing, about the size of a new 10p. Unscrew that and pull the bottom rad hose off. Flush through with a hose from the expansion tank until the water comes out clear. Refit drain bung, refit bottom hose, pull off top hose. Stick a bottle of G12+ in through the top hose, fill the empty bottle with water and repeat (You're aiming for a 60/40 mix water to coolant). Keep doing this until you see fluid appear in the exansion tank (lid off). Now stick the hose back on. Top up to minimum. Take it out for a 15 min drive. Top up in the morning. Done. Kev
  2. Oh whoopy do, 2 people have had problems, therefore they're sh1te overall. Just about everybody has a problem with their Corrado, does that mean Corrados are sh1te aswell? Not had any problems at all with mine and I've using them for years, and as I said, they're guaranteed for life, so only takes an SAE to send em back and get fresh set if they break. The VAG ones are no longer the nice red Beru bonded ones, they're naff old Quantum things, barely any better than G&S ones which come apart in your hands.
  3. Blue Igniters are 7mm anyway, so no fitment issues. They also use Factory ends on each wire for a quality fit/finish. Here are the prices and C&R's order codes:- ILSBIVR6ND VR6 models (distributor-less ignition system) £69.95 ILSBIVR6WD VR6 models (with distributor type ignition system) £82.50 As for reasonable sets, I think even VW's quantum ones are £60ish and the G&S substandard ones are £54, so you're better off paying a smidgen more for the BIs to be honest. Cheers Kev
  4. Somebody's been busy with a drill! They look really cool. If only the Speedlines were just a tad bigger, they'd be perfect......
  5. The bounce test is not a true indicator of damper health, especially not a stiffly sprung car like the corrado! Sounds to me like they're goosed, but if it were me, at 86K, I'd be pulling them off anyway to fit some Konis  Kev

    Wet Carpet!

In that case, it can only be rain water or you have no anti-freeze in your coolant! I doubt the latter very much, but it is a possibility. I take it you've cleared all the leaves and things away from the blower intake in the scuttle area? Your sunroof drain hose might have come off the sunroof subrame, they're only a push fit. Bit of a long shot but tracing water ingress is rarely easy! Look for tell tale water marks around the door, dashboard, headlining etc. Kev
  7. I live in Ipswich which is only an hour away from you. I have VAG-COM and am happy to give you a tutorial and scan your car for you? Kev
  8. Blue igniters  C&R Enterprises in Nottingham are the UK importer. Lifetime guarantee, what more can I say? Other good ones are Magnecor, Nology, Splitfire, VW's own (under Quantum brand now I believe - but these aren't anywhere near as good as the original red Beru leads). Avoid G&S ones, they're cr@p. Spend the extra on good ones and fit-and-forget. Also, if you go over 7mm cable diameter, they won't fit in the cable tidies. Kev
  9. Yeah definitely, count me in. VW should have been reprimanded for allowing a £21000 Coupe to leave the factory with exposed wiper mechanism/motor and ECU. Kev

    Wet Carpet!

Typical they have to break this time of year :( Check to see if the fluid on the carpet is coolant by dabbing a peice of kitchen towel on it. If it's blue or pink and sticky.... Kev

    smokin VR6

I replaced my Lamb probe yesterday and during the process, I noticed how much better the engine ran without it! I reckon the VR would be an animal with all the electronic cr@p taken off and mechanical injection fitted. 6 branch K Jetronic Throttle bodies Distributor Yum..... K
  12. You might want to get your engine speed sensor and O2 sensors checked out as I replaced mine today and it hasn't cut out at all. Throttle response and general pull are much improved also. Kev

    Speed Sensor

Bolster has a crank sensor (G28) out, not vehicle speed sensor (G68). Kev
  14. Just flushed mine out and it was well and truly manky. The bottom of the filler resevoir was thick with black crud. I don't think it's ever been changed. Mine's a 94 VR and it appeared to be have been using the red stuff. I put green stuff in it, I hope it doesn't bugger the pump and rack up! Kev
  15. When the car is jacked up, get them to check for play in the tie-rod ball joints (both ends) and the lower ball joints. Kev
  16. Check the throttle cable isn't slack. You can adjust it with the clip on the cable. Remove the upper HT lead tidy and all will become clear. Kev
  17. Yeah the VR's main pump has a plastic impeller, but unlike BMWs, they rarely spin freely on the spindle when the pulley is stationary. I pulled mine out at 80K because it's internal seal had blown, but the impeller was mint. Responding to the aux pump topic, it comes on at 100 degrees (engine on or off) and during the cool-down period when the engine is off. It's basically an assistant because it runs a lot faster than the main pump does at idle. Due to the silly amount of traffic in recent years, a lot of VR owners are finding the aux pumps going south through heavy use, sitting in traffic. Vr6south, are you sure you haven't got an air lock? Mine now sits dead centre of the guage (100 I think) all day long, but when I had an airlock, it would also sit at 110. Kev
  18. Yeah on the last page of my guide, it shows you the metal detent tab that falls off and jams under the adjuster gears....very common. Just remove it altogether and live without the click-stops on each vent direction. Cheesy, yeah they can be stripped but the plastics are really brittle, so you have to go easy with the screwsdrivers. Good Passat ones are hard to find because they break too. I luckily found two mint ones from my scrappy but I had to scavange around 8 passats to find them :? Since doing that guide, mine have broken twice, but it's all working again now. The metal tab fell off the first time and then the face/feet vent cable detached itself from the heater distribution box. Nice. What a pile of junk the later heaters are..... Kev
  19. Not sure what happened there. Like dubster said, I repeat myself in order to get the post count up  Don't know how I've quite managed 1500 posts so quickly but rest assured, I am seeking counselling for my addiction! I guess this is what happens when you're single....and is probably why I'm single Kev
  20. Don't G60s have a diagnostic function on the MFA? I'm not sure what level of error reporting Digifant holds as it's not a fully managed engine like the VR6. Kev

    Speed Sensor

Do these sensors always fail completely or can they sometimes just need a clean. If it's intermittant (which it would appear to be) then maybe it's a dodgy wire to the sensor?? They tend to lose their resolution first, causing lengthy starts and hesitation on part throttle. It's just a magnet and a bit of wire, you'll faint when you see what you get for £140! Scandalous. You could pull it out and check there's no swarf on it upsetting the signal. Kev
  22. Cause I replaced it in October! I looked on the invoice for ya  Kev
