  1. 71,000 Because it was done under warranty  There's no way I'd pay that if I had the car when it went as I'm more than capable of doing it myself, but if the car has a warranty, let someone else do the graft! Kev
  2. A squeak or a creak? A lot of VR6s make a creaking sound when pressing and releasing the pedal. I had Vince check it out when I had my clutch done and he said it was coming from the bellhousing as I pressed the pedal, while he listened. Anyway, we checked everything thoroughly when the box was off and found nothing that would cause that noise, but I have my own theory...... On the actuator arm inside the box, there is an orange ceramic ball on the end of it which sits in a cup on the release bearing holder. I think the noise is just that ceramic ball 'creaking' in the metal cup because it has no grease on it. As I say, I've heard a few VR6s do this, both high and low mileage and I don't think it's anything to worry about. Kev
  3. It's amazing how a tubular manifold changes the exhaust note! SuperSprint do a nice one for the VR....mmmmm Kev
  4. I've found the best place to fit it is in front of the radiator, on the VR6 at least. Space is very tight but it's do-able in an afternoon. Mine dropped from 114 deg @ 80mph to 96 deg. Kev
  5. Blinkin eck, that's a very healthy improvement. Why VW didn't pursue the original idea is a mystery. In gear acceleration times must be much better? Kev
  6. The blades have now changed. They now feature shallower rubber and you can now fit new cartridges like regular blades, without having to replace the whole blade assembly.
  7. Walk away....there are better examples out there for less and that don't have terminal engine failure. Be it the result of a manufacturing defect or the product of abuse, it is not a good car. Kev
  8. I found a bill for £500 relating to a radiator replacement on my VR6. It was sold via a BMW dealer and came with a warranty. The previous owner used it to good effect when the rad blew!! Being a BMW dealer, they seem to have done a good job of it! Nothing it seems is cheap for Corrados! Kev
  9. Where is Sutton park? Sounds like fun! Kev
  10. More torque? standard v standard, I don't think so. Let's not get into a G60 v VR6 debate again please. Kev
  11. Yeah I remember my test drive and the first thing I noticed was how much slower it was than the ropey old BMW 325i I traded in against! Until 4000 rpm that was! The combination of looks, paint colour, refinement and equipment levels made me happily part with £5K, also in my jeans pocket! It's not bene rosey ever since but overall it's a great car. Kev
  12. If it's a VR6, they generally only show up on the diagnostic when it's pretty much dead. The engine will still run but it'll operate so far out of range, performance and economy will both take a hit. Kev
  13. Yeah Schrick 256 cams (or 268s if you want more top end) and a Milford Electronics changeover module, plus a rechip will give phenomenal results, however, the VGI manifold on it's own is still a very worthy modification. Kev
  14. Just ask for badge clips, they keep them in stock by the bucket load. Kev

Bridgestone SO2/SO3 or Goodyear Eagle F1s get my vote. Kev

    0-60 times

The Corrado user manual states 9.3 to 60 for the 2.0 valver, which is where parkers obviously got it from. 6.9 for the VR and 8.5 for the G60 if it's of any interest. 0-60 is just pub talk anyway, has no real meaning in the real world. In gear acceleration times give a more accurate picture of a car's accelerative power. Kev
  17. Porsche discs are drilled and they are the best brakes in the world. I prefer grooves myself, to de-glaze the pads but there is no real braking strength improvement with grooves, they just throw the hot gases off the disc and de-glaze as already mentioned. Braking strength is only ever going to be as good as the chassis holding the parts, something else Porsche have perfected, so make sure all your wishbone bushes are tip top. Same applies to dampers. Kev
  18. £1500 + VAT is how much they cost although someone on the clubgti forum reckons you can import them for a lot less. From where I don't know. Advantages - 25% more torque at lower rev ranges and a better top end. Disadvantages - Price and messy HT leads as the VW cable-tidy is removed. You also have to dismantle the manifold to change the plugs, which every 20-30K is no real hardship. Mike Edwards on the forum has one fitted and is the best person to describe the benefits it offers when driving. It's on my wish list! Don't even bother searching ebay for one cause they are VERY rare on the s/hand market. Cheers Kev
  19. Nice one. I've had my Mocal 13 row on for a couple of months now and it gives the same results, which in the VR6 is a good thing. It won't undercool since the thermostat in the sandwich plate only triggers at 70 or 80 degrees, depending on what you ordered. In the winter, you can always block it if it undercools but I've had Mocals on other cars and have never needed to do that. Cheers Kev
  20. Yeah you may aswell stick some new tappets in. I wouldn't have thought their is much you can do with worn ones. Cheers Kev
  21. That's basically what the Turn2 heavy duty VR6 front mounts are....awful things. Kev
  22. Perhaps your water pump impeller blades are worn down? Would explain the rapid overheating. Not a pleasant job changing it either! Kev

The Corrado is OBD1 and the 4Motion is OBD2, so probably not. You possibly could if you fit the Corrado's throttle body and MAF sensor to the the 4 Motion engine, but I'm not sure if the 4 Motion's variable valve timing is hydraulically or electronically activated. You'll need to do a little research, perhaps on the VW Vortex site. Kev
  24. An Eprom still needs a power source, unless it's a non volatile storage type, in which case power loss would not affect it. It would resume once power is restored. Thinking about it, VW wouldn't bother with battery packs, so I guess the instrument pod has a fault. I would double check for a 3V lithium battery somewhere in the pod first though. Kev
