ah I see, sorry about that. So would that also cause the in gear acceleration to be very erratic?
-
excuse my ignornce, but what is an ISV?
-
Can't really work this one out, and wanted to know where I should take it for diagnostics? I live in Kent. The car is idling a bit lumpy and often sutters when accelerating.. Things I have thought it could be are.. 1) Crank sensor 2) ECU 3)Lambda probe anyone shed any light? cheers guys. Sam :?

he has underestimated you, the reason he is so confident, a) cos he's a BMW driver and b) they do have good in gear acceleration, but I would think on a track you SHOULD especially easily see him off, he will probably be understeering all over the gaf with that huge cast iron arger up front! hahaha, just say that to him and wind him up even more!

I have also read a fair bit off SCN, seems that you are paying a bit for the name with Revo, like was said, they have to recoup there R&D as well as advertising costs. I still think I would prefer a custom map tho as every engine will have very sibtle differences that probably won't be accounted for by the off the shelf jobbies. From what I have read, the Revo map is a very good all rounder, best gains are in the mid range so it is very useable power.

just been reading the same topic convo on mk4 forums.... does seem to be the way forward, and no doubt it will be more reliable then say a G60 engine, a good alternative, but the 168TDI is looking very appealing...
-
Yea, will be good to see the 168TDI in the polo aswell! lot of forthcoming competition for it aswell which is only good for buyers I suppose...
-
It's not so bad if all manufacturers mpg figures are equally out, ie all tested on a rolling road, although not accuracte. I think the official figures for the VR are 29.5 combined which I think is pretty accurate depending on length of trip, I've had it up to 38mpg if you are prepared to sit on the motorway at 60 for long enough, (I only did it because I was following my dads land rover! lol) Perhaps it would be better to compare the golf 168TDI with this twin charged 1.4

Yep, looks like petrol is catching up with diesel. I would say the advantages are, it sounds better then a diesel, is more refined, and more fun to drive, when you factor in that petrol is actually slightly cheaper then diesel, there is probably sod all in it. BUT, it may cost more to run? in terms of keeping both the chargers sweet, plus, if it were my money, I would just get a golf/leon 150 tdi and save a bit of cash......
-
yea, is amazing, there are cars that come very close, but think that would just about pip everything else out there......
-
yea, I see Audi as a slightly more up market, better made VW but that is a little more numb to drive.....
-
ah well, cant win them all, and imo the vr still looks better so not all bad ay!
-
and doesn't a corrado VR perform better then the audi coupe aswell?
-
I changed all my plugs, leads and distributor recently so it prob ain't that on my one.....although I would of thought that had I not changed them, hmmm, will a diagnostics report show up the problem?
-
yep, all show and no go! bahaha
-
yea, F/I defo benefit much more from free flowing, bigger bore exhausts, 25bhp can be had on a scoobie with the exhaust alone..
-
well I'm no mechanic but as far as I can gather, it sets the timing of the crank, so if it is contradictory to the ecu or cam shaft, the engine will be confused at to what is going on, hence why it splutters about.
-
my VR has same problem, really dont think it is engine mounts, feels like the engine isn't always accelerating properly, think it might be the crank sensor?
-
Gees thats a nice rado, will take some beating.
-
I saw one pass me recently, it was going quite quick alright, but too much traffic to chase. Bare in mind, the MK5 GTI has a lot of torque spread very widely, sounds very nice. And as was mentioned, they chip up to 240bhp, I would say if it is remapped and has the DSG it should take care of a VR, no probs, as much as I don't like to admit it!

I think storms are proabably worth it, jsut depends on the example you see. Mines for sale at the mo, depends what your budget is tho I guess.
-
reliability is more of a result of how the owner has treated the car I would say, if it's been serviced, driven correctly, it'should' be fine...
-
yea, infact PD's are amongst the most receptive engines you can get to a re-map.
-
just changing valve seals, got all the stretch bolts and gaskets, but my friend is doing it for me, he has told me he has marked it anyway, but was just checking out of curiosity. Flywheel/gearbox are still connected.

ok give me time, I'm not very good with comps, this thing is quite old, still running on 800hz, LOL, even if I have got b/band. not bad for £50 tho! LOL
