You can use Mk 3 GTi ones which are better than the standard sieze prone jobs. I had these on my G60 and they were fine. Even better are Mk4 Gti calipers. I don't really know why they're better though but they're even more than the Mk 3 ones which are about £90 each. Seeing as the fronts do the lions share of the work it doesn't really matter if you go for the Mk 3's or 4's.

I think the chip's only about £100. Better than the boost return mod is the SWG twin inlet airbox.

Ditto. My Jabba chip was awful, massive over-fuelling. The SNS chip was so much better and throttle response was noticeable improved. I’d stay clear of Jabba for anything G60 related, their “stage 4” port of my charger was very average and the exhaust end bearing in the charger was the original VAG item until I had JMR open up the charger as a precaution at well over 100K miles!

We just bought a 1.7 Puma in blue and it's a cracking little car. The gearbox is sweet and precise and the engine loves to rev and feels a lot more muscular than its 123bhp would lead you to believe. It's got this amazing virtually flat torque curve from 2K RPM. The steering is really precise and the handling it totally fool proof which makes it easy to drive "progressively". Ours pulls to the left though which is a bit wierd. It's had 4 wheel laser alignment and still does it. I phoned up Pumaspeed and apparently they have an appetite for suspension bushes so it could be that. The interior is just a Fiesta's interior with a few painted silver bits and and an alloy gear knob. It's hardly the last word in quality! Still our 45K miler doesn't squeak and unlike 99% of Corrado's; it's got air con! (and Ford's excellent quick clear windscreen)

My 200SX and the Puma both fail to re-start if you stall is when it's cold or start the car to move it a few feet. With the SX, you take the fuse out for the fuel pump out and then try to start it. Then pop the fuse back in and it'll start 1st time. With the Puma you just hold the throttle to the floor, then start it and it fires up. I never suffered this with my G60 though.

You'll get a whistle without the boost return deleted if you've had all the carbon canister and fuel breathing gubbins removed if you don't plug the hole underneath the TB.

Andy, I know this is a longshot but the guy who bought my Dad's old C Class Merc had a Yellowbird (amongst other Porsches) and lived in the south east. Could this be a giant concidence waiting to happen! :lol: (There can't be many Yellowbirds about)

A thermostatic sandwich plate is essential really. Without it you’ll never get up to temperature in the winter and your engine will run too cool for too long. Minimise the time the engine is warming up (and doing most damage) and get the cooler to kick in at 90 degrees. You can still drive enthusiastically at 78 degrees, the oil is warm and sufficiently viscous by then. There’s no need to be massively obsessed with the “magic 80 degrees”, as long as it’s warm it’s fine. Without a thermostatic sandwich plate though you’ll be doing more harm than good especially if you do lots of small journeys.

Could you just replace the tweeters with something known to have a "softer" sound? The JL VR components' tweeters have a very laid back sound for instance? -

Your cracked piston could have been caused by det. Running a turbo with a stock intercooler would have meant that unless you were fuelled up to the max, your intake temps must have been pretty darn high. Did the piston go bang on a particularly hot day? The GT28RS will be a much better turbo than the S14 non 360 thrust bearing job. Much faster spool time. The roller bearing T28's are good for 320ish bhp in the SR20DET. -
The worst they'd have to supply would be a rubber hanger or a clamp; neither which would cost more than a few quid each.

Agreed, common platform sharing stifles flair. Look at the new Alfa Spider for example. It's either FWD or 4WD. Not RWD like I suspect a lot of the old Alfa fans would like. It's also little more than a poncy scuttle shake-ridden boulevard cruiser as it's too heavy to do anything else. It's also lost the legendary V6 in favour of a GM unit found in Vauxhalls and Saabs.

One of those websites wasnt £43 for 25 litres just so I can feel better about my carbon footprint and save a few trees! I think they should pay more attention to the amount of carbon China's pumping out as its coal-fired economy grows at something like 10% a year!

Interesting stuff. So to summarise, it seems that the easiest thing is s mix of veg oil and normal diesel if you can't be faffed with turning your house into a mini distillery :lol: Diesel's a quid a litre and the Tesco website will do 3 litres of veg oil for £1.62 which is 54p a litre. With this in mind would it be wise to fill up the tank with half diesel and half veg oil and see what happens? Presumably you'd need to alter the ratio in the winter more in favour of diesel to retain the correct viscosity.

I thought that Evo article was very interesting. It was biased, but only due to the nature of the magazine the feature was in. They focussed very little on the Corrado which I was a little disappointed by, only because I have proportionally more interest in them then any other car in the feature. The fact that a relatively heavy and old car like the C was included at all is testament to the integrity of its original design. Evo is all about “the thrill of driving” and when you’re pitching the C against frenetic and fizzy cars like the 182 and DC2 ITR; the C is going to come out lower in the pecking order. I’m sure if they did a long distance type Lands End to John O’Groats run they’d think twice about choosing a 9.5K RPM redline car with no sound deadening as their weapon of choice ;) I can see similar posts on Puma, Clio and Pug forums. Everyone justifying why their cars should have been higher up the pecking order but when it does come down to the “thrill” you probably can’t beat being strapped into what is essentially a racing car with number plates and indicators!
