  1. Please can someone confirm to me the location of the black temp sender on my VR? I’m doing a manual fan override switch for fan speed 3 and need to know for sure before I go mad with the soldering iron and wire snips! Is it the sensor which sits to the right of the yellow and blue senders as the top rad hose enters the engine? Presumably I can also test the circuit by unclipping the plug and bridging the two contacts on the plug with a screwdriver– if the fan comes on everything’s working fine.
  2. Sounds like the problem I had with my old BTS - a new one fixed it fine. It wasn't expensive either.
  3. Lovely shiny new parts! I had Mk 3 Golf rear calipers on the back of my G60 as they're less prone to siezing than the OE Mk2 Golf based ones. Did you source your calipers directly from VAG or pick them up from a scrappie and refurb them yourself?
  4. Without wishing to be the harbinger of doom GAP have got a terrible reputation. They're paid by the installation so there's no incentive for the technicians to take time over their work. I had an alarm installed by them which went wrong and was subsequently re-installed by Huets and the quality of the original job invalidated any CAT 1 status the alarm had in the first place. Any place which installs alarms from a van without proper workshop facilites is a bit dodgy in my opinion. The other thing to consider is that (I think) having a remote start invalidates any kind of Thatcham accreditation which will be necessary for your insurer to recognise your alarm. There are some good places on this forum for alarm fitters, the likes of Trimwizard which has dozens of happy customers (me included)
  5. KW v1s? Totally corrosion proof and pothole friendly. Gaz made good stuff and it's all servicbale in the UK which is appealing although make sure they're more 'road' than 'track'. I personally wouldn't touch Spax stuff - bit too cheap and cheerful.

    BHP

NA tuning is a mug's game IMO unless you've got big money. I'd save and go FI if you're really serious. Or buy a faster car
  7. Karmann made the corrado in their factory in the town of Osnabruk. :) great stuff.......any circle karmann or osnabruk badges? lol.......i guess this is the one thing i learned all day...awesome  Every day's a school day mate  On your other point regarding a round Karmann badge - I've never seen one :(
  8. The new ones don't seem to be Tyvek (I had a 'small' one ages which was though). However, the new ones are still waterproof and breathable and the medium one fits the C perfectly. I've had mine for a month or so now.
  9. Awesome build thread, an inspiration. You gotta ditch the Wolfsburg badge though - Corrados were make in Osnabruck
  10. As you’re fairly local to me and hence JMR in Littlehampton West Sussex I suggest you get the car down there for a proper diagnosis. I had a similar problem with mine and ended up having the car off the road because I didn’t take it straight down there in the first place. Misfires can be tricky to diagnose and can often be attributed to a number of factors which compound one another. My misfire/rough running was a combination of a fubar’d distributor, shoddy GSF leads, old plugs and a very tired MAF sensor.
  11. I'd change the oil with some decent fully synth stuff - I put VAG stuff in mine. Also get the shifter aligned by someone who has the special VAG tool. The G60 boxes are cable change and a bit more susceptible to going out of alignment

    running hot!

Sounds about right for a VR. Mine goes up to 110-112 on the mway. Aftermarket oil coolers are a popular and cheap mod for VRs and G60s.
  13. IMO they look hideous, worse than stone chips for sure. Wouldn't you be better off using some professionally applied transparent vinyl film over the leading edge of the bonnet which is advertised in the likes of Evo?
  14. I obviously drove the Mito 155 but I sat in the Abarth and both have a similar feel inside. However, the Mito is only £500 more than the Abarth and has an extra 20bhp, more equipment and it's based on a larger platform (Punto vs Panda). think it makes the Abarth look more expensive. The Essesseessesees pack for the 500 also costs and additional £2500!
  15. Work (AXA) are doing a company car thing where you pay £x per month and get the car, servicing, parts, tax and insurance all taken care of. It comes out pre-tax too. As long as the car makes less than 160g of carbons you can have anything you like. The C has cost me an average of £400/month recently and the prospect of a new reliable car is quite tempting (especially with air con!). The missus is starting to get tetchy
  16. I thought it looked much better in the flesh TBH.
  17. I test drove the 155bhp version of this the other day and it was very good indeed.
  18. I’d like to register my tentative interest subject to dates chosen. I’ve got load of plans for the upcoming weekends but I’d like to come along if I can :)
  19. Coilovers generally won’t last as long at dampers and springs. You’ve got a fine thread on coilies which are prime targets for salt and muck to get trapped in. The KW units have a special coating/galvanisation which cuts down on this massively but again they’re expensive – you pays yer money an’ all that. Cheap ones will corrode quickly and you’ll end up with seized spring platforms and having to grind off you old seats (in addition to them not giving you a good ride). The great thing about standard springs and dampers is that the dampers can get all rusty and corroded but still work perfectly. In terms of day to day use if you want to fit and forget I'd always try to find a set of springs and dampers personally.
  20. I had cheap FK Highsports on my G60 and they were way too bouncy
  21. Agreed, you get what you pay for with suspension more than anything else IMO
  22. The result I got with my G60 and then with my S14A 200SX 'felt' correct given subsequent works and my 'seat of the pants' rolling road as comparison. I'd be interested in taking the VR6 as to me it feels like it's making very good power for a stock set up.
  23. Don't know about you but I've always been wary about using any kind of flush in my engine or coolant. I can just see bits of sediment being loosened and ending up in some narrow galley in the engine where coolant or lubrication is critical
  24. I've taken a few cars to SRR and was impressed. Their new place is great - a huge old building where they used to test out tank shells. Their fans are enormous too.

    Cats2Go?

Does anyone have any experience of the actual cats from these guys?
