  1. I've owned my private plate for almost 6 years now - it's personal to me with my initials - and when I look at the car and my plate I really do like it! Was horrible when I bought my C last year and it had a 'J' plate on whilst my partner was driving around in my old car with my private plate. Due to it not really being that important in the whole scheme of things to rush and get my plate transfered, I actually ended up waiting until this July before I got the plate on my C (and we bought another personal plate for my partner's car). Was horrible all those months without it! My partner and I have now got semi matching plates on our cars as they both start with the same letter and number and then have our initials on the end! I also bought german number plate surrounds so didn't have to drill my new plates.
  2. I'd say it's more the car/floor rather than through the steering wheel. Think I might pop to local tyre garage and get them balanced on the way home tonight.
  3. I'll try and have a look later. So if a wheel or wheels was out of balance could this cause it to only really be noticable at particular speeds?
  4. Is it possible that the front wheels might have got out of balance when they were taken off for the service? Not really that good with trying to recognise different noises - not sure how I'd identify if they are droning - would it be a really obvious noise and at all speeds?. In my last car one of my wheel bearings went and I never noticed - was only when a colleague from work got in the car that she noticed it instantly.
  5. I know the topic of wheel bearings has come up many times before, however I just wanted to describe my symptoms and see what you guys think. Had my car serviced last week and every since getting her back I've experienced these symptoms. When driving between about 70 - 75 mph I get this sort of vibration through the car - sort of feels like I'm driving on an unsmooth surface. Once I get up to 80 mph it seems to pass. Think it might also be a bit noticable at other speeds but it's really obvious when it gets to 70. When I had my rear discs replaced back in May they also did the rear wheel bearings. Is it possible that it could now be my front wheel bearings that need doing? Seems a bit odd that I didn't notice this before my service.
  6. Nice to know that the hydraulics have pretty much all been done now on my clutch! Still can't believe what a difference it makes.
  7. The number plate light surround - that panel is available from the dealers for less than a fiver btw!! That's good to know - I'll have to go and get one. Suppose I'll also have to see if I can get some paint for it - don't think it will look too good if I paint it with my little touch-up brush!
  8. Also, the only bits of rust I've found on my C are a tiny bit around one of the side repeaters, and the rear number plate light thing. Oh, and my Dad had a 1990 Fiat Tipo which was fully galvanised.

  10. The slave was replaced just a few months ago - so hopefully it should still be ok.
  11. Had my C serviced down at GAE in Portsmouth at the end of last week, and also had a new clutch master cylinder fitted. It had been suffering from lack of pressure for months, sometimes it seemed fine, but other times the clutch pedal would just go pretty much to the floor and I'd have to pull it back up by putting my foot underneath! Can't believe what a difference the new master cylinder makes. I'd also been suffering from judderyness when changing gears which I thought was down to engines mounts (although I'd already had the front mount changed), but with the new master cylinder everything is lovely and smooth - guess that if the old cylinder wasn't working well then it would have resulted in the clutch not releasing smoothly. Anyway the clutch works like a dream now and Cornelius also drained 1/2 my gearbox oil and mixed in with something thinner and it changes gear smoothly as well now. The gear change had been awful - very stiff and notchy. So finally for the first time since I've had my C (just over a year), I'm finally able to get a decent gear change! Just need to get used to how far I need to dip the clutch to release it and I'll be away. Cornelius also did a wonderful job with cleaning up the engine bay! Never had a mechanic clean under the bonnet before. All the hoses and plastic bits cleaned, the various fluid bottles look like they've been siliconed or something as they are so nice and clean and glossy looking! It's just for me to now clean the rest of the car so it looks as good!
  12. My previous car was an E36 318is coupe and I've now got a 2.0 16v Corrado. There is so much more life in a Corrado, everything feels much more sporty and precise. We still have the E36 coupe as it's my partners car now, and when I drive it, it really feels like a bit of an old boat! When the BMW was my car (I owned it for over 5 years) I loved it and felt it drived really well and I thought the M-Tec Sports Suspension was great, but it's nothing compared to a Corrado. I do look at the BMW sometimes thinking how much I loved that car - and it did do us well. I'm just glad that my partner owns it now (plus we need it if we go away anywhere as we find the boot in the Corrado much too small!).
  13. I know what you mean. Before I got my C last October, I hardly saw any - and then no sooner do I buy one, another chap at work gets one (although he doesn't seem to be much of an enthusiast, think he got fed up with me keep trying to talk to him about Corrado's!), and then suddenly I keep seeing them almost daily! At least they are still not what I would call 'common' cars, and I guess there aren't really that many around, it's probably just that I look more for them now that I have one.

  21. Think this is the first time I've actually been 'spotted' by someone on here! Do you have any pics on here (other than your avatar) of your C? It's a nice looking motor, but couldn't find any pics, when I searched earlier.

  23. Spotted a very clean looking metallic red 'J' reg this morning in Portsmouth. Young chap driving. You were just crossing roundabout heading for Fratton Road area (I think), I was just coming onto roundabout heading for Church Street). I waved, I'm sure you saw me, but don't think you had time to acknowledge me.

I've had my 2.0 16v since last October, and unfortunately I've ended up spending quite a bit of money getting things sorted, which I believe is mainly due to the previous owner not looking after it properly. When I bought my C it only had two owners from new, and the first one (had the car for about 11 years) always used a dealer and had everything sorted when it needed doing, just that the next owner didn't seem to bother too much. I initially wanted a 2.0 16v instead of a 1.8 because of the fuel situation. With the 2.0 you get a cat and the car is designed for unleaded fuel, and I was led to believe that there would be issues using standard unleaded in a 1.8. I didn't even really consider the G60 as was concerned about fuel and insurance costs, and the VR6 was more than I wanted to pay. I find that there is plenty enough power for me from a 2.0 16v, I just need work on my gearchanges, as my last car (BMW E36 coupe) was an auto and I had that for over 5 years, and still struggling a bit with my clutch control! Unfortunately my C is one of the cross-over models so I don't benefit from the newer interior, but at least I do have the newer externals (bonnet etc) which all 2.0 16v's should benefit from. I sometimes wish I'd forked out a bit more for a VR6, especially when people see I've got a a Corrado, and their first question always seems to be 'is it a VR6?'! But I don't think I'd like the fuel consumption. The other thing that I miss with my 2.0 is that you don't get the centre armrest in the rear, and I believe that the 2.0 (16v and 8v) were the only ones that didn't get that. Anyway I do love my C, and after what I've paid on getting stuff sorted out, I wouldn't really want to go and change it for another, as I'd then be back to not knowing what's likely to need replacing etc. Having kept my previous car for over 5 years (and not my partner has the car), you get to know exactly what's been done, and what to expect, and I finally feel I'm now back to that point with my C. Plus my 1992 has quite low mileage (only 82k when I bought it), and the interior really doesn't show much in the way of wear.

    OK, might give then a call. Perhaps I should also have pointed out the that pimple-effect on my passenger door has also resulted in peeling lacquer, so again, that's something that I'm not sure they would be able to deal with. But as you say, they do offer a free no obligation quote!
