  1. Mine does the same (but is a 2.0 16v). It always fires but just needs a few revs to get it to idle. After that it's fine. Is this likely to be the cold start injector then? Are they expensive, and are they easy to fit yourself?
  2. Thanks for all the advice. Got C back from dealer last night and everything seems fine. They had their 'Master' Technician work on it and they bled the system through, topped up the fluid and say they found not faulty components or signs of leaks. So fingers crossed for now, however if it happens again then I'll take a look myself, bearing in mind the potential problems that you've all suggested!
  3. Great, just when I was beginning to believe the dealer I'm now unsure again! Will just have to chat to the Technician at the dealer when I pick up the C to try and find out exactly what they've looked at and what they found. I've been speaking with an After Sales Advisor so it might be that they didn't understand everything the technician told them or it's a bit of chinese whispers! All I want to be sure of is that there is nothing wrong with the clutch hydraulics and that everything is ok. Although I would like to understand how it got so bad. I can sort of believe that my constant gear changing of 1 1/2 hours sat in slow moving traffic (pumping the clutch up and down) contributed to the slight problem I had with the clutch before the brakes were done yesterday, but it's more why they had got increasingly worse with the pedal almost all the way to the floor when I collected it from local garage after the brakes were done yesterday.
  4. Just spoken to the local garage and they say that they didn't bleed the brakes at all. However I then spoke to main dealer and they say they found spilt brake fluid on the gearbox that isn't near anything that could have leaked and points to the fact that someone looked to top up the reservoir. The main dealer also say they fully tested everything and found no leaks or fault components in the system! Who do I believe???!!
  5. Can't even get hold of the local garage now, phone has been engaged all day! It must be off the hook or something. I'd like to find out if they did bleed the brakes etc (if they remember). The slave cylinder was new back in November so I'd like to think there isn't a problem with that.
  6. Not sure who to believe now. The main dealer or the VW (so called) specialist. I shall have to quiz the dealer a bit more when I go and collect the C to find out why they believe it was low due to the brake change yesterday. Was there something that pointed them to that conclusion?
  7. The problem with the clutch started on Saturday when I was sat in stop-start traffic for 1 1/2 hours. Is it possible that constant up-down of the clutch pedal could bring any air in the system to the surface and result in a drop in pressure on the pedal? The pedal had got to the point where it wouldn't return completely to the top using hydraulic pressure, the last bit of return was just on the spring. Then when the garage changed the brake discs and pads this just got a lot worse, I guess as a result of them loosing some fluid in the process and then not topping it back up. Does the first bit about constant up down of the pedal sound feasible?
  8. OK, thanks for the advice. I was just wondering how much to trust the garage that I took my C to yesterday as when they replaced the brake discs and pads they didn't bother to bleed the system properly or top up the brake fluid, resulting in a problem with lack of pressure in my clutch and them telling me to take the car back to the main dealer because they had fitted a new clutch slave cylinder in November and it looked like there was a problem with that! Subsequently took the car back to main dealer last night, made a big fuss/scene about the problem and them not having a courtesy car for me and not wanting to pay for a hire car, and now VW have rang and said it's all related to the brakes being replaced yesterday! So wasn't anything to do with work they had done! All a bit embarrassing really
  9. I had new brake discs fitted to the rear of my C yesterday and was told that the wheel bearings also had to be done as they were sort of integral with the disc and if they tried to remove and reuse them they probably wouldn't be any good. Does this sound correct?
  10. Strange you mention about a Power supply fault as mine got picked up on that when I had my original problem, but with the brake pedal travel sensor being replaced the mechanic seemed to disregard that error!
  11. The 1970 Beetle I used to own had the reg starting with CYL so thought it should be Cyril, but the previous owner had called it Wilma. Not got a name for my C yet. When I get my personal plate put on it will probably get called C6.
  12. I had a problem with my ABS light coming on (and staying on) intermittently while driving and it turned out to be the brake pedal travel sensor. This fixed the problem but then a few months later I've now started getting the light coming on every now and then when I start the car, but if I switch off and try again it is normally ok. Seems like a different problem to last time as with this problem it never comes on while driving only when starting up, where as before it would normally come on whilst driving. Any ideas?
  13. I got just over 40mpg on my valver the other weekend - well so the MFA says. Was driving on single carriageway A-roads for about 1 1/2 hrs. Think I pretty much believe it, and I actually managed to get 399.6 miles out of my last tank of petrol with the MFA saying 33.5mpg overall which I was really impressed with.
  14. Spotted a sort of metallic red 'M' reg VR6 heading onto M27 at J9 yesterday at about 5pm. We both acknowledged each other. Anyone on here?
  15. Don't think the BK Racing 5 spoke softlines really do much for my C.
  16. Thanks. Would I be better off with wider tyres? I've just got 195 50 15's at the moment, but loved the wide look of my last car (E36 coupe) on 225 55 15's.
  17. oh ok. Maybe I should just go with some 15's then and then at some point in the future think about getting my C lowered. Just so long as it doesn't look c**p with nice wheels but still sitting up in the air on standard suspension. Any opinions?
  18. Thanks for the info, was really hoping to get something like some 17's in hope that they'd fill the arches a bit better than the 15's and maybe do away with my constant yearning to have the car lowered. But I do really like these BBS split rims, and suppose one bonus if I had 15's again is that I could re-use my existing tyres which I only renewed about 4 months ago. Does a set of BBS split rims on an unlowered C look ok?
  19. I've seen a few sets of BBS Split Rims to fit a four-stud on ebay recently, all of which seem to be 15". Can anyone tell me if these wheels were made in other sizes such as 17" or was it just in the 15's?
  20. Is that the old style bonnet you have there? Strange for a 2.0 16v.
  21. What part of Hampshire? I'm down in Portsmouth and would like any recommendations that anyone has for a reliable installer down and around there.
  22. Quite tempted by the Toad Ai606, seems very well spec'd for good price. Do all the enhancements come with this system as standard, such as headlight operation? Or do you have to purchase seperate modules?
  23. I'd like to fit a new alarm system to my C, the existing one is quite old (Foxguard I think), and doesn't operate the 'closure' on the windows, and I've also got a seperate Category 2 immobilisor that's been fitted. Any suggestions as to what 'reasonably' priced alarm is worth getting? I'm quite interested in some of the Clifford alarms as they seem to do quite a few add-ons. So I'm thinking, could I buy a cheapish one now, and then later 'add-on' some extra functionality?
  24. Pic from the brochure
  25. I did a rough translation last night and the doors, bonnet, sunroof and tailgate all appear to be single-side electro-galvanised.
