Very nice, Twilight Violet with Grey Leather is such a good combo. 8) I have to say, the window tints set it off nicely, may be a future mod if I keep mine.

I measured mine with my hand as soon as I stopped in the pitlane at Knockhill. The airflow when the cars moving makes all the difference, especially if you have a grill with all the slats open. After it had been sitting a few minutes it definately felt a lot hotter.

The manifold doesnt get that hot, more like lukewarm. Go for a hard drive then as soon as you stop pop the bonnet and feel it before it gets a chance to heatsoak with the car sitting still. Try it with the throttle body as well though with the coolent pipes attached and theres a good chance youll burn your hand.

May have been a bad batch, ive heard Texaco SUL and Esso SUL are the exact same...

Look up a few posts at the user names. Its normally very easy to replace, just make sure youve got some jubilee clips handy to replace the clips on the coolant hoses and on late vr's you need a small torx bit to remove the throttle body heatshield. Mine wasnt so easy to replace as I rounded the head on one of the bolts. :( A quick email to alpina527 and he told me how to remove it easily. 8)

I normally use normal Esso in my car and whenever ive used Optimax or Ultimate I cant say ive noticed much difference. The Esso garage I use has just started selling there Super Unleaded so I tried a tank yesterday and noticed a difference straight away. Ill be sticking to Esso from now on I think...

I fitted my alpina527 throttle body tonight and am well happy with the results. The difference was noticable as soon as id set off. :D Highly recommended mod. 8)

All the rolling roads ive seen measure the drag by ppressing the clutch in when the car hits the rev limit and measuring the deceleration as the wheels slow to a halt. cant see any reason why that woul be classed as a big bodge. Personally, I would try another rolling road as it sounds like the one above is a bit sh*t tbh. If it is accurate and the cars down that much power then the most likely thing would probably be the cam position sensor, as there known to cause a 20-30bhp power loss.

Or you could buy Samcos...

jimsG60, Must be a 2.0 16v thing, wasnt yours the same? I know mine was.

The american slc makes slightly more power than the golf due to a less restrictive exaust and catalytic convertor.

Very nice. 8) What wing mirrors are they?
-
Theres 2 options for lowered suspension on elephant depending on how much the car is lowered by. Try the other one.

How old are your rear top mounts? I changed mine the other day and have noticed a huge improvement in the steering at speed, turn ins sharper, it feels more precise and the car is a lot more stable.

How do you disengage passenger side Driveshaft from gearbox?
Joe M replied to Johnboy98's topic in Engine Bay
johnboy98, throttle body arrived this morning, cheers. kevhaywire, £50 sounds good, im pretty sure I have the later ecu as my key has a built in immobiliser. (I know this because 1 key works and the other doesn't.) -
Starting to think sensible now, can get 2 rear TA Konis for under £150 and use my current Eibach springs and Koni fronts. There about 5 year old though, what is the lifespan on these things anyway. Wouldnt want to not go for the coilovers if my front shocks are passed there best. If there ok though with the money I save it could be time for the arbs.... :?

How much are quafie LSD's and is it a possible DIY job???
Joe M replied to Johnboy98's topic in Engine Bay
It is a fantastic and worthwhile mod and id say definately worth doing while the box is out. Diff is about £620 and the fitting kit is about another £80, its also about 6 hours labour to get it changed and not an easy job. Ask phatvr6 about other things worthwhile doing when the box is apart like changing the final drive. I think he also uses a peloquin diff that is at least as good as a quaife and is cheaper, though has to be imported from the US so its worth asking about that as well. -
That would be the sensible option as ive already got Konis on the front and eibach springs, so it would be cheap to just get the rear shocks. I just cant seem to help using any excuse to go for an upgrade though. (I needed a clutch so got a gearbox rebuild with quaife diff.)

What have you heard then mate? There was a thread on the forum the other day, cant remember the exact details. I dont think the FK's come with dustgaurds either? I have drove a mk3 16v fitted with Koni coilovers though and am hoping Roddy has his vr at kames on sunday for a passenger run and I reckon Koni will win in the end. Ledas would be good but I cant justify that cost.

I had thought about them, especially as theres a group buy on clubgti just now. But, theres been a few conflicting reports from reliable sources on them and with the Konis I know what im getting so I think id rather pay a bit extra. Best price so far £699 from c&r
