  1. Well I will do it if I know that the results are worth it. I heard this story from an unofficial source the other day: Are we sitting comfortably? Audi were testing one of their saloons in artic conditions up in Sweden or somewhere for bad weather handling, and the cars were handling like cars do in the snow, crap. They were using big VW 4wd vehicles as support vehicles (apparantly these were called the VW 'Itis' made by VW for military purposes) The Audi engineers were impressed with the handling of these big 4wd's despite them being as slow as shyte. A group of engineers 'unofficially' took it upon themselves to graft this 4wd system into one of there saloons with what they thought were impressive results. After some more secret testing they approached their managers with the project. they setup a test to prove the system, the 4wd car endowed with a 160bhp engine, vs the current top spec touring car with 240bhp on a track. By all accounts the 4wd car with less horse power lapped quicker than the fwd 240bhp car. The managers were suitably impressed and that folks is alledgedly how the Quattro came to be.
  2. well I know people go on about this massive weight difference but to me the weight and its effects of inertia only really affect the car on take off, and guess what 4wd cars are great at? launching yes. I believe that a 4wd car will hold greater corner speed due to the fact that the power been put through the front wheels is greatly reduce, so the wheels will not start spinning (the main cause of understeer) A good diff on a fwd car maximises the power delivery to the 2 front wheels, but a 4wd doubles the available rubber to put the power through)
  3. I would try it before you chuck it in the bin. Anything will fit with a little bit of work.
  4. thats different again - I'm not one for the twin engined route (unless they are twin motorbike engines) OK then so most people like the idea of 4wd then. Question: Would a 4wd car be as quick as a 2wd car on a track in the dry?
  5. If I got beat by a 130bhp tdi in any corrado bar the 2ltr 8v (and possibly the 1.816v one -but even then I am not sure) I would hang my head in shame, they are not fast at all. They may feel fast when the torque value goes from about 3ft lbs to 200ft lbs in the space of 6 rpm but believe me, drive a corrado properly and you will destroy the oil burner.
  6. Thanks for the advice lads, I am going to implement a phased approach to the end result of my car. 1. Get it on the road in basic 2wd normally aspirated. 2. Get used to the power its got. 3. Fit the supercharger  4. See how it copes. 5. decided whether a quaife diff will do the job or go full 4wd (or both!) with that in mind the car should be road worthy this year!!! yippee!
  7. I am up for it if they are prepared to come to my garage and use there imagination to picture the car complete lol
  8. are you sure this passive rear steer thing is not just a gimmicky pile of b0llocks? i have not noticed any difference what so ever with my rear end over any other car...
  9. lucky bastaads, i dont have any windows you lucky, lucky barstaads!
  10. well phats car is only 2 wheel drive, it has a pelequin diff fitted to it. but its definately got a lot more than 190 brake to it - or should I say 'had' more than 190brake to it. I could beat it on my mountain bike now lol
  11. now then, I am having a moment of indecision here. My mate is telling me that putting 4wd on my car is effectively a waste of time apart from in poor weather conditions. namely - it will still understeer with 4wd and it will not offer any great advantage. So I am thinking of sourcing an ATB diff for the 02M box and running it in 2wd mode to see how it handles the power. I am hoping for 300bhp with the charger and a few other mods so the diff will have its work cut out, but apart from off the mark I am not so sure..... Any opinions will be greafully recieved. Those who have converted to 4wd what difference did it make to the drive of the car?
  12. thanks for the info guys. any up in the north east? (I dont fancy driving 300 miles with half an exhaust :-) )
  13. how did you do those gauges? The back lighting is pretty fine :-)
  14. Hi all, Does anyone know of, or better still have any experience of custom exhaust system builders I am going to have to get one made to my spec as my back is going to be pretty much unique. Anyone had this done? costs? advice?
  15. I will definately be there, but my car will not be ready to hit the roads until sometime in the new year. and when it does it wont have the supercharger on it either but what the hell it should still go well enough.... Actually when it happens I hope the track is soaking :D
  16. good plan - I would just do the eyebrow bit too - you need to break up the colour :-)

    1.8T vs VR6

If you have a look in my members gallery thread you will see pics of my manifold, It has a big panel on the front of it, obviously been welded on there after they have fitted all the gubbins to it. at tick over you can see this panel actually suck down under the vacuum, blip the throttle and the vacuum is relased from the manifold, the panel lifts back up a touch. Stick my charger on and it may inflat like a balloon. I might have to reenforce it or replace that panel with something more heavy duty. I'll just see how it goes.

    1.8T vs VR6

one thing that I noticed on my 24v is that the manifold actually 'breathes' in and out when you rev it! I reckon the heat and pressure of a turbo would rip it apart! I am aniticipating problems with my charger
  19. my god your signature is making me feel sick!
  20. no cruise control - I will just have to put the pedal to the floor and cruise at what ever speed it levels out at  download quicktime player and it works
  21. well there it is, lets see if anyone can actually play it.... bloody stupid video phones...
