Hardback?? Nice!! Not done it for a while but I must be on my 5th or 6th one - I used to buy one every year for around £50 delivered from Amazon.ca and then sell the tatty one on eBay - used to go for way more than the new one costs - nuts! ---------- Post added at 10:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:27 PM ---------- Hardback?? This is a situation where you're better off going to a VW dealer - TPS can only offer around 9-12% on normal (non-parts club) parts where the dealer maybe able to do much more discount...

One day left to buy advanced tickets... 'reduced' to £12.50 per day or £25 for the whole (2 day) weekend - what a great saving! -
How long have you had it? Change the oil and keep an eye on it... If it's high mileage it could be that start of valve stem seals etc
-
It shouldn't do no... VW 8v's have a reputation for hardly using a drop! What oil are you using?? If its lost that much then i'd check the sump plug etc isn't leaking - maybe lay some paper under the car?

Best to change that belt first, no point speculating about other components when you've found something broken!
-
Was going to say what about the slave? - may as well change that too as I'm sure it's a hydraulic issue if the bite point is changing... The master sounded like it was knackered as you noticed the change so this could have taken out the slave too even if it had been replaced before.
-
Oil pressure - It's in the Instruction Manual - don't drive it until you've topped up or fixed whatever the issue is!
-
You should do what I do - get some T shirts with a thick diagonal black stripe, I've not worn a seatbelt since I was 7 years old...
-
Awesome, they did it!

Love Guy Martin - I want him as a pet!

It's fairly easy but I think you'll need VAGCOM on a Canadian spec car with ABS to do the brakes but I'd also be worried about other stuff like hoses and seals if it's not been done in that long - brake fluid should be changed every 2-3 years max and your 6 year old stuff will be well out of date now!
-
Welcome to the forum - you probably need a new slave cylinder if it's never been changed but could just be the seals leaking / dried out due to lack of use (storage) When was the fluid last changed??? If it's not been done recently then try that first... Any signs of fluid on top of the gearbox??
-
Yep, was a great day in the sun and good to see everyone - went to Henley on Thames afterwards too!
-
Yeah if that's the Club GTI guide then it's pretty good but I think I posted about the amount of grease used?
-
That's because you need to over-tighten slightly first, then back off and do it again by hand - this takes up any slack. It's also important to work the grease into the bearings first and not to overpack like I have seen many do - the cap is a dust cover and shouldn't be full of grease. I seem to have the knack of doing them now but mechanics get it wrong - this is why manufacturers use the generation 3 type bearings now and you end up buying / swapping a whole hub over
-
You can also unplug the dim-dip at the fusebox end - look at the loom to the headlight switch. Maybe remove / disconnect the uprated loom or headlights to test next time it occurs?
-
What does the Relay on top of the fuse box do?

Hi mate, you can pressure bleed with an easy bleed or do it by hand (2 person job) You'll need an 11mm spanner and a tiny amount of fluid (250ml - £2ish from VW) Before you start though are you getting a drop in fluid level?? If so looks for signs of it under the slave / on top of gearbox.... It has to get fairly bad to become noticeable but should be easy to spot if so now we finally have some dry weather. ---------- Post added at 10:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:07 PM ---------- Post a pic up if your not sure... if it's black painted or rusty then maybe original and might as well replace Best place to buy one - http://www.vwspares.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=1924

Change the fluid first if it's not been done recently - some garages don't bother doing the clutch when doing brake fluid changes
-
Mike, be great if you bought it back - how much did you sell for?? PM's - I don't think sent items are saved by default... Are you going to Stonor park tomorrow?? Be good to see you if so!
