gradeAfailure replied to biggerbigben's topic in General Car Chat
errr, exactly how much did you drink tonight...?! ;) -
Haha, Henny, looks like it! Andi, yeah, I gotta borrow one of those cos I'm running 195/50s on the Passat when they should be 55s, so my speedo's waaaaaaaaaaaay out...!
-
Errr, is this meandering OT slightly...?! Heheh, not that I mind breasts as a topic of discussion, but... :) Anyways, I think the a/c VW scene is much more anal than the w/c scene - an ex of mine who was into Bugs wouldn't even accept a Golf or Corrado as a good VW! That sort of thing bugs me...

Camskill were really fast and cheap when I recently bought some tyres - £138 incl delivery for 4 195/50-15 Avon ZV3s, and they arrived at work 2 days after ordering! Spot on... I'm afraid it does - the profile of a tyre is a percentage of the tread width; so 205/40 have a profile of 40% of 205mm, whereas 225/40s have a profile of 40% of 225mm, which is higher, thus increasing the rolling radius...

Right, I just phoned Dubmeister regarding my german plates, and whilst I was on the phone I happened to mention about the Stadt/plakette stickers that places like eutags.com do. Apparently they'll be starting to do replica ones from about April, and should only be about £10-15 for a full set of four, instead of £42 from eutags! :)

Cheers - sorry, I usually do a search first but I'm tired and not thinking! Woohoo, 100 posts finally! Only about another 9900 to go then...

My Passat was already lowered 60mm before I bought it - is there any way of telling if the bias adjuster has been reset or not? :?: Haven't had to brake heavily enough to lock the wheels yet, guess I'm not driving fast enough! ;)
-
That'll be a bit quick when finished - I seem to remember a 4WD version of one of these winning a Revs magazine 0-100-0mph shoot-out...! Only got beaten by a bike ;) :)
-
Welcome! Though I'm afraid my Corrado knowledge is limited due to the fact that I own a Passat! I'm sure it'll be only about half an hour before you're deluged with more advice than you know what to do with! ;)
-
If you're lucky you can find them for sale 2nd hand with the correct boss included - my Momo Race was £65 including boss and delivery from Bristol. Ah, the wonder of eBay... clicky clicky And you'd get a gear knob too!

True, it was sweet for a £225 eBay bargain! Not really worth the level of mods that will be done to Sen though! -
You should sooo keep the D90s, they're a beautiful rim when polished IMHO... Such a sweet looking 'rado, it's rather tasty...!

Yeah, I reckon 92 was the best year - last year before catalytic converters were compulsory! :) She'll be out and about, taking me to shows over the summer, and has already made it into the edge of a couple of pics from the last E1K@AceCafe meet! Have never really had a car worth photographing before and it's a really good feeling! -

Just thought I'd put a couple more close-up "aggressive" pics up...! -
I think you can get green glass paint at WHSmiths so should be no excuse for red indicators! :) Got mine at a local arts shop though - £1.30 for a little bottle... This is how my rear lights look when lit now:

Cheers guys, and yes, I'm hoping it will be a reliable VW! Though she's puffing out a bit of blue smoke on startup that I may have to see to... :( Just about to get her wheels refurbed actually - black centres and spokes with diamond-cut rims should look good? Then it'll be on with the bad-boy grille (it's not as Gary as it sounds!), possibly new bonnet cos the paint's faded and there's suspicious rust bubbles underneath, then maybe a chip and a custom-made heatshield for the induction kit, the German plates (if they ever arrive...), nice set of mats, etc, etc... They're never really finished, are they...?! -
Cool, cheers for the advice... Have had my plates on order from Dubmeister for over three weeks now :( apparently they're still waiting for the plates to come in from their German supplier...

Hello everyone, my name is Sen, and I am 12 years old and a Volkswagen Passat. My owner, gradeAfailure, aka Dave, said you'd all been very nice to him on here, and that he would like to take some pictures of me to show you all. I hope you like them! He's not much of a photographer I'm afraid, but his friend Phil K is, so I will do a shoot with him as soon as I get time off from taking Dave to see his friends. He's a nice owner though, and I'm sure he'll take care of me! EDIT 19.03.05 - New pic on page 2!

 Will do!

Really? I got this translation from one of my company's German distributors that I'm friendly with so was pretty sure it's correct! :D Always happy to be corrected though! BTW, couldn't believe how expensive those stickers are on eutags.com! £42 for two Stadt stickers plus the TUV and emissions stickers! Think I'll wait and see how good quality my German plates from Dubmeister are before ordering 'em...
-
I'm gonna add my twopenn'orth here too and say buy a Leon Cupra R 2nd hand, they look sooooooo much better than those Ibizas... Plus it's not named after an island full of English tw@ts every summer...
-
Henny, cheers mate, am in the process of ordering some thanks to your link! jimsG60, yeah it is - the man is the reason that i spent £6k on a home studio and started attempting to make tunes myself... shadow is the don... :notworthy:
-
At N/R on Weds I noticed a mk2 Golf with german plates but he also had the TUV/emissions/local area stickers as well... Short of going over to the motherland, any idea how I could get hold of some? Have already tried Googling it for images and have managed to find a couple of jpegs but they're not current, or very good resolution... Cheers!
