Think we all ought to read this... Some rolling roads quote 35%+ for transmission losses?! I don't think so... Even VW themselves reckon about 15% - it's near the end of the article... I've read several articles written by tuners about the transmission loss con but this seems to sum it up best; but they all quote similar figures... Always happy to be corrected on stuff like this, but if my car was putting out 100bhp at the wheels and I was being quoted anything between 135 and 150 at the flywheel (as I have seen in magazine RR shootouts) then I'd be a little suspicious to say the least! :) As it stands, my car was RR'd at 101.2bhp at the wheels which translated to 124.9 at the flywheel so I'd say that's fairly accurate, maybe even still a little high...? What do y'all reckon on this?

lmao!

Heater matrixes are always a beeyatch to change as well, even disregarding the engine work... Considering I paid £700 for a '92 2.0 8V GL with 140k on the clock and all the stuff listed in my sig already done to it, I reckon £500 is a bit much IMHO... 8) They are damn good solid cars though! :)

I do love the OZ Turbos - was looking for a set for the Passat til I realised 1)too expensive, and 2)can't get them in the right offset! They are the daddies on mk2 Golfs though, but yeah, possibly a bit small on a 'rado unless you go for 50 (or even 45!) profile tyres and drop the car to the floor a la euro-style... 8)

Google it - plenty of places sell em, including these guys! 8)

OK, we know your cars, where did your names come from???

Well, I never really felt like much of a success at anything, being too much of a perfectionist to ever finish anything I started - so I figured that a failure of a perfectionist could only be a Grade "A" failure...! It's who I am everywhere, and a friend even bought me the .com and .co.uk addresses for my birthday! (Cheers Laura!) -

Heh heh, cheers! :) I like the fact that it's a bit more "euro" than usual - I'm actually typing this at Frankfurt airport having spent a day and a half in Germany! Sooooo want my german plates to arrive now! -
I think they might be Audi A8 wheels... :?:

Creative Zen Micro Vs Panasonic Headunit ****UPDATED****
gradeAfailure replied to Furkz's topic in ICE 'n' Secure
Yeah, we liked the polished Sony one too... Though I'm thinking of going old-school on the stereo to match the dash better! Just don't want to lose CD-Text and virtual surround sound... :) -

I stand corrected! :) The head unit was this one anyways... -

Myself and Phil K were in Halfrauds at the weekend and we saw a head unit that has line-in phono sockets on the back which can be selected from the front panel, in much the same way as a home stereo - reckon it'd be perfect for this sort of thing! If only I could remember which one it was... You could then hard-wire some sockets hidden under the dash that run to the back of the stereo... -
A few Passat things... Fit 17" Borbet As when they arrive from Germany Realise that wheels rub and roll arches and/or machine wheel offsets Change coolant New mats Spray and fit new grille and possibly bonnet Sort rust on A-pillars Fix sunroof Re-gas aircon German plates Fix broken dash section Feed leather interior Valve stem oil seals Steam clean engine bay Chip ECU Replace induction kit with drilled airbox and panel filter (undecided!) It does sound like it's the fuel pump - mine can be heard priming when the ignition is turned, but it goes once the car's running though...

Yeah well, we all know about Jay's uncanny ability to get stuff for stupidly low money jeez, and i thought i'd done well getting the Passat for £700... ;)

With the FKs is there a big difference in ride quality between the basic AKs and the Highsports, etc?
-
I thought it was always better to use fully synthetic - I am on my 145k 2.0 8V - is that not correct?

If you have a look at the rear lights you'll see that the lenses have sections to them - I just striped along these lenses using (of all things) Halfrauds bodystyling stripe! The narrowest one is what you need, should only be about £1.50... Didn't rub down before spraying, just applied the stripes, sprayed three coats of tinting spray, removed the stripes, then did a fourth coat, then lacquered. Tinted my indicators green and all is peachy! Probably would have been better to rub down before the lacquer but mine's only a Passat and I was in a hurry...! ;) If you want green bulbs I can do you a set as I still have lots of paint left. There's another big thread in Exterior about this, and there's a pic of my lights lit up in there too...

The BMW E30's (except the M3) are 4x100 as well...

Really? I didn't know if it was a common thing that people get done or not... Cheers for the input, appreciated!

So, I won my lovely lovely 17" Borbet A's on eBay today and am looking forward to getting them fitted, but... they're 7.5" wide with an ET of 35 - am currently running 7x15s on ET35 and they are just level with the bodywork, so I'm thinking I may have to get the Borbets macined down to make them ET38 or so to try and keep 'em under the arches! :) The question is; has anyone had their wheels machined to alter the offset, and how straightforward is it? I work in engineering and so know a few machine shops, but if anyone knows of a specialist then that would be better!

That's actually the grille that's going on mine! Well, when I can find the money to get it sprayed that is... I have noticed that these shape estates are really popular in Europe; I almost like 'em more than the saloons! Funny that you should post a pic with flat-centre-capped Borbet A's on... ;) -
24V Renshaw - 24V V6 - Just read the whole thread!!!!

Jay, you are truly the sort of person I know I wish I was - willing to put in ridiculous amounts of tme and effort to get the car we really want instead of just throwing a lot of money at someone else to do all the hard work then just sitting back and taking the credit... :) Mind you, not that I actually have any money currently, but you get the idea! Seriously though, I reckon you've probably inspired a lot of people on here to go that little bit further in modding thier cars and to not be scared to still have 'em as daily drivers, so full on props to you... Such a sweet car it shall be - look forward to seeing it when it's back on the road... :) :notworthy:
