-
yup - they have a bloke who does spraying and bodywork too.... ;)

lucky you!!! i'll be watching it on tv!!! yes, there are loads of people with money involved, can be said in many sports/hobbys though... unfortunately to end up competing somewhere like that you do need to be a bit well off!!! sorry for being OT!!!

Pfft…! My Corrados have cost me more in maintenance than any horse I have had! You need to be pretty well off to afford to keep a C on the road!!! It’s a myth you need to be well off to have horses, although it would help….! :)

its a safety precaution for the first few times I have a young horse out on his own - they feel safer having someone at their head, especially if we come across things thay havnt seen before. once I know he is fine with traffic, barking dogs, kids on bikes and all the other stuff they encounter when on the roads then i am happy to take them out alone. i have an ex-race horse who has been to big race meets and seen all sorts of traffic, but has never seen a kid on a scooter (of which there are seemingly hundreds round my way!) so its nicer if he is introduced to these things gently, first on the yard and then outside where he has someone with him to reassure him he is ok. the next time he see's it then its not a big thing and I know he has seen it before and will be ok. my horses dont try to go the other way from where I ask them too, or try to bolt, but thats only because they understand ther their 'job' is to do as I say. If they were to get a fright on the road and shoot forwards or sideways I am completely confident that I could get control again straight away. plus I have no probs of quickly going onto the pavement/verge, if theres no people on it, to get out the way, even though were not allowed too. unfortunately there are too many inexperienced riders with unsuitable horses on the roads who give horses like mine a bad name. the Governing body, British Horse Society, has been campaigning for years for better awareness and a better standard of riding when on the roads. they supply us with insurance, just incase, and Road Safety courses. They are also campagning for all the bridle ways to be reopened so thet horses and riders have less need to go on the road. there is a lane from my yard which would allow us to avoid the busy road when we want to go off the yard but it has been deemed a footpath and has a big gate across it so we cant go up it, leaving us with no option but to go on the main road. anyway - enough of me talking horses! I understand why drivers are wary of us....

Thanks for the info and opinions guys. Its looking like the Pajero is favourite for now, although I don’t doubt that a Disco would do everything I want it to do I am a bit concerned that I wouldn’t get a great one for my money and end up with rust and/or gearbox issues. Plus it would be a tad hypocritical of me who hates people who live in modern estates and drive clean 4x4’s who never go off road to have a big Disco as although it will be towing every week and going to and from the stables it wont be going into fields and rolling about in the mud as it should be! The Pajero is a bit more economical and being smaller a bit better for little me… I have seen one with 54,000 miles and all the toys which could be a possibility once I have sold my C…. Plus you can get the Pajero in a nice bright red colour – always a bonus for me….!!! Thanks again..!

Thanks Zippy.... Wilkes - That sounds horrible what happened to your brother but as owner of 3 horses I have to agree with Zippy. We avoid roads as much as possible but for some riders its just not possible, for me to rideout I have to go 200 yards down a busy road until I meet the lane for the Common or country roads with no traffic - I would love to have my horses on a yard that didnt go onto busy road but I havnt been able to find one that will accomodate me and my horses. From the sound of it the incident involving your brother was a freak accident, the rider wasnt on the road with the horse, they were in a situation where they couldnt pre-empt what would happen or prevent it - believe me if 500kg of horseflesh wants to feck-off across a field theres not much we can do to stop it... Riders are aware of the dangers and none of us would attempt to go on a road with a horse that wasn't 100unless, like me, they have a youngster that they are making traffic proof. When I take my 4 year old horse out on the roads I have someone walking with me to help, thus helping contain any danger me, my horse or approaching drivers are in. There are 8 accidents a day involving horses on the road and over 100 horses are killed each year due to these accidents. We are aware of the dangers but we need the drivers to help us - is it really a problem to slow down and pass slowly when you encounter a horse on the road? Strangely enough I find that drivers are more curteous if i wear a flouresent jacket with 'YOUNG HORSE _ PLEASE PASS WIDE AND SLOW' on it..... at the end of the day we are allowed to ride on the road and the Highway Code asks that we are given right-of-way, if you have a problem with this take it up with the people who decided that...! Unfortunately there will always be some idiot who goes out on the roads on a horse without a hat or flourecent gear just as there will be drivers out there without insurance, or a licence, or who just doesnt slow down.... it doesnt mean we are all like that.... polite rant over... :) i wouldn't ever drive past a horse rider at a stupid speed ,im a curteous driver ,but surely there are things on the road that slow you down that get you a bit wound up ,for me its them ,can i ask ,would you and the person walking with your 4 year old horse be able to stop it if it decided to go wherever it wanted ? genuine question ,no sarcasm intended .this is only my opinion ,its more personal for me cos of my brother , I never said you did speed past horses, I appreciate your brothers accident will have made you more wary and that you will be very cautious. and yes, there are things on the road that p me off, horses are yours, young female drivers (i know!!!) tend to be mine...! I never take a horse on a road I cannot control - my horses are all worked in a school and a field everyday to ensure they are well behaved and listen to me, us going on the road is the only way we can get to a bridlepath to the common so we can have some fun. they have been walked in hand on the roads first (where i have complete control) to get them used to it, then walked out with me riding with other, older horses and with someone by their head and then on their own with someone at their head - I have no concerns about the control of them, its some drivers who get too close, or to fast that i worry about - at the end of the day my horse could be walking down the road and behaving perfectly but if a driver is going to quickly and doesnt see me or doesnt move out in time thats not mine or my horses fault. I have ridden on the roads for 14 years and never had a problem - never even came close.

The insurance on a Pajero doesn’t bother me too much, 7yrs no claims and am now 26! A modified rado only cost me £350. Am not sure if the Discovery is just a bit too big, they are huge where as a swb Mitsu wont feel quite as bus-like!!! My real concern is just maintenance on the bloomin’ things….!

right boys and girls... the C is unfortunately for sale to fund another horse.... as I will be going out competing on said horse I am biting the bullet and heading back to 4x4 ownership - previously had a Cherokee tdi. So far I am looking at 2 different makes - the Mitubishi Shogun/Pajero 2.5tdi (short wheel base preferably) or the Landy Discovery 200/300 2.5tdi.... Would love a jeep tdi again but they are a little out of price range..... has anyone owned a Discovery? are they really as high maintenance as a Corrado? The Shogun owners I have know have had very little probs with them - anyone know any different? main criteria is that it needs to be able to pull a large horse box with 2 horses (about 2 tonne) on a regular basis with ease! I aint trading in my beloved C for a competition horse and then finding i'm not able to go anywhere with it!!! any thoughts.....?

Realistic prices for recaro leather-good condition
scarlett replied to stevie_f_2004's topic in Interior
what colour is it...? in mint condition I'd say a black interior £800-£1000.... beige would be worth more, £1000-£1200.... -
those Borbets do come in more 'corrado friendly' sizes if you really want that style....

*drool* utterly stunning...... :)

yup - I had one of my horses out for its first encounter with traffic last weekend... all the drivers we met were great, we met buses, lorries, families in people carriers, even had a convoy of motorbikes slow right down and crawl past me making hardly any noise - who was the driver who acted like a tw@t, a bl**dy female blonde thing in a rover 214.... arrrrrrrrrgh.... and its because of these idiots girls my age have a bad name... if you purpously go out and buy a purple Rover cos you like the colour, the seats are big enough to fit your huge ass in and then drive it around like a, you own the road and b, like its not a problem your on the phone/fixing your hair/applying make up/ eating one too many M'cD's then moaning that your ass is huge you should be shot... plain and bl**dy simple....!!! :) don't get me stated on the rest of them.... !!!! :D
-
meh, its all really down to the individual car - a good condition model with a history etc will always be better than something that needs fixed up, regardless of engine size.... but i'd go for the 2ltr, I prefer them with a bit of torque, plus you can stick the KR cam in it and for very little money you'll be pushing 160bhp.... (if u use the search you'll find loads of threads on the KR cam mod). theres not much difference in insurance prices between the valvers and the VR's so dont expect to save yourself much for going for a valver, especially if you modify it!!! oh, welcome by the way!!! :)

Just cos you've traded in your Rado don't mean its right or the rest of us have any plans too.... and as for the VW drivers trading in their Vr's for Scoobs and other Rice tat, let them.. I know of 2 Jap and 1 Ford driver who are on the look out for a decent Corrado as they have got bored of their cars.... needs, wants, situations and people change.... good luck with your new car, I am sure the new owner of your Rado will appreciate the fact you gave it up and let them get their hands on one of the best older cars on the road.... It' be a boring world if we were all the same - god I sound like my mum...! (can't wait to be able to drive my rado again, its been 5 days and I have serious withdrawal symptoms..... :( )
-
its not actually illeagal to undertake tho, is it....? its illeagal if you are doing it dangerously or to intimidate, but if it is a genuinely safe manouver then your ok.... Or at least that was what I was always led to believe....
-
Erm, yes, a massive difference. Fit a pair of Eibachs and take your car's handling to the next level. yup, agree 100%. if you can, do it.... you will not regret it! they would be one of the first mod's I would do to any other corrado I own from now on... we have one rado with them and one rado without and the difference is definately noticable, Daves Vr will be getting them too.... :)

awww shame!!! you'll have to bring her with you next time!!!! :)
