Hello mate, thought I recognised the car.... I've done a bit of work on this car in the past when I'e been around to help Andy out, and although as Andy has said it's not the tidiest, I didn't think it was too bad a car, and I remember the spacers being covered in copperslip while we had fun refitting the wheels. Anyway. /2p

Ignition switch failed?

The knock sensor picks up when the engine is starting to "pink" (over fuel). The ecu then receives a signal from this sensor and retards the ignition to suit. Matt Yeah, basically it's a microphone. Oh, and I will post the 263 data when I get a chance. Have no internet at home at the moment though.

The wedge is to control the size of the butterfly opening at small throttle inputs, it effectively reduces the area that is opened up, without this small throttle inputs can make the car jerky as Flusted suggests. Self porting/polishing isn't hard, but you should investigate how to do it before diving in. There is a useful thread on E38 ( :shock: :wink: ) by RWD19T I believe.

I've fitted 3 sets of these cams now, and have looked into the profiles, compared the duration and lift to the standard and the 268 cams, and generally thought about mine, still unfitted in my boot. Unfortunately I only have access to the graph comparing the 268s with standard at the moment. The rest of the data and the spreadsheet behind it is at home on my laptop. What I have worked out is that the 263s have increased lift over the standard cams (similar to the 268s) and have increased duration 240 (I think for standard) vs 263 degrees. The lobe centres are the same as the 268s as far as I remember, so there actually is increased overlap over standard. Having driven and riden in a few cars with these fitted (unmapped) I know that the noise is different for a start, and the pull from 3k to 4.5k feels stronger, however the car feels completely standard otherwise and the idle is rock solid. I have had very little experience of 268 cams which I could really compare them too though.

Fair enough. I prefer to be able to see through the bottle to see the condition and level of the coolant. I'm not trying to knock it, it's a nice tidy install 8) I just like things a little more utilitarian.

That's what I was thinking too. :) 6.5"/11" would be pretty much spot on for a fiarly standard VR wouldn't it?

The rover maestro used a VW gearbox. Possibly the 020.

It's an issue with some of the cheaper USB VAG COM Cables... Go into your latency settings in the hardware manager and adjust the value. Thiink it needs to be around 5.... Have a search, there's a thread on it.

Long weekend at mine again? Same process as we went through swapping your gearbox, just needed to whip the pressure plate off. You've got a clutch kit anyway, sat at the beigey boy wonders.... I'll try not to get run over again before you turn up...

What do the fans cost? I might well be up for a 6.5/11 Dave... If I'm rebuilding my VR, 'd just as well do it properly... Connect the 6.5" up as speed 1 and the 11" as speed 2 and both of them for speed 3?
