VR6 Ignition leads... VW no longer supply! :(
Jim Bowen replied to -=Kris=-'s topic in Suppliers Forum
I use the tool to remove them. Have removed them so many times and never had an issue. I'm going to stick up for the beru leads. Although I said the same about the coil pack and it broke later that week. -
Pro-active engine refurbishment/rebuild - costs at a garage?

I've also considered a 2.8 bottom end? Am I right in saying its the inlet, throttle body and cams that differ in the 2.9. I agree with kev. Its more of a selling point the whole 2.9 thing. Surely an air filter would add a similar percentage. -

Am in similar situation now. Original engine head gasket went at about 200k. So bought another engine from the forum and swapped then over. Striped the head of that engine with intention of having it rebuilt. But just bought that other new head from the forum. As I already have the gasket kit and some arp studs I might just stick the new head on the current engine with all new timing gear and standard cams. Engine has schimmels at the moment so will sell them on to pay for some timing bits. I also plan to fit some refurbished injectors. Although have an ultra sonic cleaner so might do that myself. Also planning to have oil filter housing, cam cover, aux bracket blasted. Debating a new power steering pump. Already have a new alternator. £3000 is a lot of money really. More than my car is worth. Ive just been buying bits when they pop up so seems less expensive. What do people think about a new oil pump? Ever heard of them failing? -

Think you play tug of war with them until the ends fall off. -
When I got mine they gave me the wrong one. Despite giving them the car reg etc. Worth checking your pedal end first. Can't remember what it cost. Probably about £40.

Is it stiff to operate the throttle body by hand from the engine bay? The lever there can be lubed.

How come you have wired them not following the grooves normally? Might be on purpose or an error or the lead lengths? I just noticed them crossing over and am curious. -

Beru ones have been fine on mine for years now -
Is filthy now. Was over a year ago that I rebuilt most of it. Can't be arsed to keep cleaning it. Think I've changed the engine since those pics. And got glue on the engine cover which has reacted with the paint.

A few i've taken over the years, not sure if this is what you meant.

You want both front wheels off the ground and may need to use another jack under the wishbone to lift it up.
-
Just checked ebay and they have all gone :(
-
Can get them nearer to £200, was a few sets on ebay cheap just after i bought mine. (typical)

Check the slam panel for smart phones. Heard this happen before  Best thing i did to the bonnet cable was take it all off and fit it again, i'm not sure if some previous owner had fitted mine but it seemed to be wrong in my mind. Fit it all then hold the end of cable with pliers so you can pull it tight then tighten up the little trumpet.

I'll buy it please, Missed the last one.

The bearing in the belt tensioner. Try listening to it with a metal bar held on it and pushed onto your ear.
-
I didn't mean remove the cap, i just unplugged the bit of wiring on top of the cap.
-
Its usually the sensors on top that leak, i just removed them and fitted again with a little pfte tape.
-
Its true, even after replacing most of mine, it still seems to go wrong, even the bits i've replaced need replacing :(
-
Yeah, same as above, think the VR6 one is quite different shaped along the top.

If you mean the standard wing bolts i have some of them if you just need one or two. Googled image searched a "speed nut" and not sure i've sure any of them on the wings? https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=speed+nut&espv=210&es_sm=122&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=T9YyU8m5CsGshQfj0YDQAw&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ&biw=1625&bih=967

I only use the fabric stuff inside the car. Thought it would get manky in the bay if getting wet and dirty.
-
Same here, could source the bits i've just see from normal car shops, and for cheaper. I find VW just pull peoples pants down and visting the dealers less and less. £395 for samco hoses on vwheritage, thats the most expensive i've seen them.... Thanks VW!
-
Yeah, i've bought them from the dealers before.
