  1. I just slide a small screwdriver under the top one. And lever it up and down while wiggling the handle.
  2. Christ. Wonder if this is causing my problems. Might be a cheap fix. Got a spare standard one and spare neuspeed low temp one.
  3. The gauge on my dash has read low for ages. Barely makes it past 70. Unless I sit with it at idle for a while. Seems to rise after a bit and it gets hot. But goes back down to under 70c when driving. The fans come on ok and oil temp is ok. But got this suspect head gasket or air lock at the moment. Where coolant system is pressurized while driving and seems to blow the coolant out the header tank. Also notice gurgle noises behind the dash and in the pipe from engine block to bulk head. Tried a new sensor at the weekend. Was a gsf one. And its not fixed the gauge. Could it be likely its a duff sensor? Or could something else be a problem. Tried to check the wiring but hardly any if it is visible. Really should get myself vagcom as I see you can test the ecu temp reading.
  4. Dunno if mine is broken or not. Can't say I've noticed anything. I seem to be able to get the tunnel off with the handle still on. Its involves a bit of careful bending. Will probably break it next time now.

    Fuse box clips

I've tried a search and looked through the 20pages it came back with, but can't find it :( ---------- Post added at 12:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:26 PM ---------- Searched again Think this was the thread i was thinking of. http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?58472-Pesky-fuse-board-clips&highlight=clips+fuse or found this link in another thread http://www.arz-tuning.de/shop/product_info.php/info/p6639_Fuse-Box-Panel-Clip.html
  6. I ended up getting as most of it off as i could, then just melted the rest with a heat gun and let it reform without the cracks, then i added more wax for protection rather than ditch it all.

    Fuse box clips

They have always been hard to get hold of, i do remember very vaguely some other guy using different clips he found, can't remember who though :(
  8. Found someone selling an AUE engine, so may take it. The problem is its removed from car and i won't be able to hear it running etc. Comes with matching ECU, Bora Sport clocks and uncut key with the transponder (immobiliser matched to the clocks/ECU) Here is the advert (please no one else sneak in and buy it) http://www.edition38.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=475737
  9. Is the 2.8 24v similar install to the 3.2? I am looking at an AUE engine. Have read a few of the pages of this thread, but its from 2005 and 148 pages so going to take ages  ---------- Post added at 11:16 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:13 AM ---------- Guide looks good, cheers for that, am printing it now and going to read it tonight.
  10. Is there an organized list of all the parts and what sort of engine is needed for the 24v conversion? I suddenly found myself needing to change the engine and found an AUE engine but not sure what else i need to source? I can't go through the whole stumbling across something i didn't know about then waiting a week each time to find a part, i just don't know these things and really rely on internet folk to help  Took me 18months to do the rest of car, had it back 3 months and think the head gasket has gone :(
  11. Got round to fitting it today, all pretty straight forward. I just connected the power to the headunit wiring using them little blue things Tucked the wires in through here Ran them down the a pillar and behind glovebox Camera mounted just behind the rear view, i put it as high as i could, then realised i can't see it at all when driving, so can't read the status lights, doesn't really matter i guess. Trim back on, cut a tiny notch in it for the wires Didn't mount the rear one to the screen, thought the plastic on the roof would be alright Still messing about with settings, it keeps triggering an event mode on rough roads/potholes etc, so i get a "PING" noise, really annoying. ---------- Post added at 8:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 8:39 PM ---------- Quick test video, the ping you hear is the event thing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OALnHyxcuw Tbh the quality is "ok", am not blown away by it, but apparently having the rear camera lessens the quality of the front one
  12. Yes early suspension has a wider top coil on the spring. You probably got late style spring plates. Most suspension seems to be designed for the early stuff. Am not sure if early spring plates work with late mounts and bearings. You may need to use early top mounts as well as the plate bit. ---------- Post added at 4:34 PM ---------- Previous post was at 4:31 PM ---------- Pic I took of both spring plates and mounts when I was doing mine.
  13. Must get some. Been meaning to try it. The inside of mine is a right tip at the moment. Not cleaned it for a month or so.
  14. Found a lovely diagram
  15. Anyone bought a rebuilt cylinder head or even complete engine from Vege? Just weighing up my options at the moment. any opinions on Vege?
  16. Sounds similar to what i want to do, still making my mind up what i should do. Nice pics, always useful.
  17. Just seeing if any has anything really, ideally i would like a refurbed head or low mileage, but might be interested in one that needs some work.
  18. Am still hoping my weird misfire is from the coolant leaking onto wiring. Have ordered a mk4 header tank today and going to drain everything. Fit that and the seal on rad sender and see if its just an airlock I'm suffering from. If not I guess it will be head gasket. The more I think about it. It seems wrong to do the head gasket and not do anything with the head. It does sound noisy and just past 200,000miles. So will need doing at some point. ---------- Post added at 8:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 8:26 PM ---------- So. 20 bolts at about £6.55 each and a gasket. What about bolts that are likely to be old and worth changing. Been reading the exhaust manifold can be awkward. Is it worth getting new bolts for that? Also do I new some sort of star socket for something? Wanna be able to have everything when I start as can't take car off the road for long. People will laugh at me.
  19. Am half thinking about buying a new/recon head to fit at the same time. Not sure where i'd get one etc, Can't really get mine done as it would add too much time to the job. Do you think it would be worth me phoning somewhere like stealth, not sure if this is the sort of thing some places might have lying about the place etc. Keep hearing about Man in the shed, but can't find a website
  20. I was thinking i would have to send it off to be skimmed, is that normal practice still? I not had a head gasket done for about 10yrs and this time i'll be doing it myself. Just been to VW and they don't do a headgasket kit as such, but sell the parts individually. Works out about £160 for just the gasket and 10 bolts, are they the head bolts?
  21. Have also already done the water pump. Was about to go and enquire at VW about headgasket kit, but is the GSF one ok to use as well? Looking at the cars history the original gasket has lasted 200,000miles
  22. Not saying my head gasket has gone, but want to be prepared for it, in case i suddenly need the parts. Is there a decent guide to follow anywhere? What parts should be changing? All i know of is: -Headgasket -Bolts for head Just done timing chains, clutch is quite new too.
  23. Not sure, but this thread below is very useful http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?38925-The-definitive-VR6-cooling-guide
  24. Yellow tells the dashboard and blue tells the ECU
  25. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UeHc6rp3rI&feature=youtube_gdata_player Video says it all really.
