Jim Bowen replied to chimo's topic in General Car Chat
haha "proper job" -
the only bolts to undo
-
i don't get it  mine seems alright, its the bit of plastic on the actual lever i threw away after months of annoyance
-
 computer says no..
-
aha i can see that one now, still not really had a proper look for the other. one thing i just noticed is the hoses are different colours inside, am i right in thinking blue is coolant and grey is air?
-
mine has sat like this for about 4weeks now :(
-
got it off now, just did two bolts on thermostat housing and removed the bottom of it 8)
-
wow, all these look awesome, plenty for me to think about, thanks so much!
-
the funny thing is that has car has been off the road for 3-4weeks, i've saved about £200 in petrol  so almost got samcos for nothing in a way :? got the old crack pipe off today, was pretty easy, just undo the hose attached to it, then you undo two bolts with an allen key, these are on the thermostat end, and the bottom elbow of thermostat housing just pull off, then the crack pipe just pulls out of block (with a bit of effort)
-
i can account for all hoses except these two, the cracked crack pipe is there to show how big they are. there are hoses to the oil cooler i think it is, but these seem the wrong shape and size for them?
-
i had 5minutes so lowered it for you  looks very well, fab colour 8)
-
now i'm halfway through repairing the car i'm thinking i may as well tidy up the bay a bit. soggy battery bag has gone and i want to paint or do something with the plastic bit covering engine and clean the manifold up. any pics of what you have done? any tips on what type of primer and paint to use?
-
got sick of some bubbling on my wheel arch so thought feck it, i'll tidy it up myself, till i find a good bodyshop anything has to look better than rust car is a bit dirty still got to finish it, then doing the other side i tried to buy the paint in a spray can but couldn't get it, so will have to do it with touch up pen

just to keep everything in one place, and i seem to like taking pics, always helpful i guess fitted the gruvenparts rad neck to the rad lastnight, couldn't do much else really until jubliees arrive. 160,000miles rad neck with the new VW one, old one cracked as soon as the spanner got near it Gruven rad neck, very good quality imo, fits well too

That guide has made it seem alot more complicated then it looks  i have a guy going to look at mine today for me, to get some advice

The definitive "What Air Filter?" discussion thread
Jim Bowen replied to CazzaVR's topic in Engine Bay
thats what i did, and stuck with the standard setup, i trust VW more than all these universal cone type filters that seems to be the same design for every car. have heard alot about people losing power when mucking about with BMWs factory air induction -
omg, i really am bored of reading about how people wash cars now  god knows what these people would do if they ever found themselves doing something interesting, like go out

Jim Bowen replied to Yandards's topic in General Car Chat
i'm just typing this to see if anyone is reading all the replies -
don't they say a storm is worth 10% more over a normal vr? VR's are around £4000 now, so thats only £4400 for a storm by my calculations, all very average and rough, but i think storms are a false economy really, i don't reckon they as sought after as people think
-
whats the betting they about £40 :(
-
surely thats the ultimate
