Right - I was wiring in a power supply for me gps unit. I used the switched live from the ignition that goes in the back of the stereo (brown with red trace iirc). At one point I stupidly managed to short this out to earth  . It now has no power going to it. I've found the cable coming out from the ignition switch - am I correct in assuming that the switch has probably melted (I've got continuity from the multi plug in the ignition switch to the stereo end meaning the cable its self if ok) and I'm gonna have to replace it, or is there a fuse somewhere that may have blown (none blown in the fusebox) Please help as I've now got no tunes

/rant Well imo that's just shit - it's an mot - there should be no 'whats acceptable' about it - it should be either: A - within the tolerances of xyz or B - not within the tolerances of xyz so thererfore a fail. Sorry to rant, but I have always felt that the mot is such an arbitary peice of legislation. Some garages will always use the test as a way of getting extra work. My missus took her car for an mot at a major car place only to be told the car had failed on this that and the other. I told her to take it to the place we usually use, for a second opinion (which she didn't do initially coz of the extra mileage). Their second opinion was a couple of advisories but otherwise a pass. What the hell is that all about? If this test is to basically deem the car's road worthiness then it must not be down to the testers opinion - it must be a quantifiable test. The facts that Mr I'm a Complete Jobsworth and Mr I'm a Complete Chill Dude and Mr I Want a Bribe have different attitudes to what is 'safe' and what is 'not safe' must not come into the equasion. It must be pass or fail according to the rulebook. /end rant sorry if I sound like a bit of a cock, but the system as it is sucks.

Does anyone know the wattage of the bulb (not the led) that illuminates the screen heater button to shown if it's turned on or off? After taking mine apart last night I managed to bust the filament - d'oh! It's a 94VR - the bulb is soldered into the gubbins of the switch. Are they easily available, or will a new switch out of a different car fit, from a scrappy, so I dont have to mess about with my soldering iron? Cheers y'all Timmaaah

Slammed at the back only - it looked like a lowering experiment gone wrong - like a muscle car jacked at the back - only with the front end poking up in the air!!!

No - he doesn't know me and I don't know him, but he sounds a bit silly, seeing as my mum weighs about 7stone soaking wet. What a clown.

Today I happened across the easiest handling and performance mod out there to date. Just load about 160kg of fire bricks into the back of your car, drive 30 or so miles along twisty roads, get to your destination, unload the 160kg of fire bricks, and then drive back home. Fckn hell, what a difference!!! Amazing just how much all the weight at the back of the car can affect the acceleration and handling. Try it today - you won't be dissapointed!!!

Well - anyone had any experience of the Thule stuff at the top? Only 4 weeks til I'm away!!

Alright clarts - need a bit of help. Going up 't lakes next month, and gotta take a couple 'o bikes up with us. Can't put 'em in the car, soooo, need a roof rack  . Been looking at the Thule solution with the additional bike bits. http://www.thule.com/fitguide/carneeds. ... uCodeID=16 Anybody used it/comment on it? Will prob use it on a fairly regular basis if I actually buy it all, but it will work out to about £200 all in!! Holy buttocks! Any cheaper, better or otherwise solutions? Looking at the search, there were some comments about the short roof adaptor causing some problems? - More info please? At least I haven't left it till the last moment..........oh bugger, yes I have!! PS - Mods - can you shorten that link - it's a bit big - ta (where's that link-shorten-o-matic gone?)

I've had her for almost a year, and thought I'd share a few pics with you all. Standard VR (Just a zorst and a k&n, and smoked repeaters), 90k ish. Absolutely gorgeous colour - one of my fave's - Pioneer head unit with 6 cd changer in the boot and stealth shelf with some Kenwood speakers. Snooper S3 and radar detection module (just in case!). Spoiler works, and even the sunroof (quick - touch wood, touch wood!!!). The front of the bonnet has the standard stone chips (how can I get rid with out a re-spray?) - few parking dings down the side, few scuffs here and there, but basically sound. I really enjoy driving her - the sound from the vr lump is dog-tit-tastic, and makes me grin like a fool every time I'm forced to give it the berries. Side on pic was taken at my parents a few days after I'd driven down to Chilcompton and back to pick her up (500 odd mile round trip!!). I didn't like the bright orange repeaters, so they have now been changed, but I blacked them out a bit on the piccy. Other two pics I took today. Off up to the lakes in July, and hope to get some really fabbo 'arty' type pics, what with all the scenery and that. Does anybody else get off on the remote closure alarm - pull up in at the pub with both windows and sunroof open - get out and nonchalantly walk away and press the alarm button, and up it all goes (yeah - I don't get out much!). Hardly see any others on the roads out here (Mid Norfolk - Reepham, Dereham and Swaffham mainly) - never mind makes mine that bit more exclusive!! No immediate plans for major mods, but you never know - I'm not really happy with the oem rear lights - look a bit cack against the colour - might smoke them out a bit, or get some other units. More power? Maybe - just for now tho - keep on drivin!

Car's got a Toad Powerkey fitted (previous owner). This immobiliser has a little plastic transponder (I gues that's what it is!) that has to be kind of 'wiggled' near the ignition barrel after the key has been thru the two clicks before the starter motor would turn to dis-arm. Normally not a problem, but have noticed a lot recently that you have to really move the transponder around before it dis-arms. Any-one got any ideas? Expensive and difficult are a couple of responses I'd rather not hear if at all possible

LOL :D Naaah - I like it nice and warm as well, but the main reason is to de-mist the screen for me.

Mornin' - Mrs has just spotted 'a black one' near Norwich airport at about 08.15-8.25. Anyone here? -
Sometimes my alarm fob stops talking to the alarm. What I do is stand at the front of the car, hold the fob near the grille, and press the set/unset button and hold it down for anything upto 60 seconds. The alarm will then respond. HTH

Yeah - me and the missus saw that and thought - 'that aint "The Stig" - way too porky!!!'

I've got an S3 and it's fine for fixed cameras. From what I've read tho, most of the detectors are no good at detecting mobile cameras (talivans), due to lasers, and not radar (much), being used. I also got the rld unit as well, not just for radar, but because I got an extra laser detector that is now right near my front number-plate, this being the most popular targeting area on a 'suspect' vehicles!!! This unit is fine for me - I don't need to know what speed I shoud be doing, or what the speed limit is - it just alerts me to camera positions. It really boils down to this - do the police use camera revenue generators, sorry - vans your way, or do they have Mr policeman stood at the side of the road - if they are stood at the side of the road, do they use hand held radar or laser detectors? It depends on what you're trying to detect!! Fixed sites - easy - laser - not much chance - radar - none - S2 has no radar capability! I've got a bit rambling - hope this sort of helps

Hi - noticed over the last couple of days that sometimes when I go to start my car, I put the key in the ignition, but it won't turn. It's almost like the steering lock is engaged, but I always wiggle the steering wheel, but this seems to make no difference. Other times I can slip it in (oo eer) and it'll turn a piece of p1ss.I have tried looking thru the search, but can't seem to find anything directly regarding my problem. Is the barrel knacked or what? Any pointers would be really helpful - cheers! Tim

Mornin - saw a white J plate yesterday, parked up outside a house on the A149 just outside Cromer (Roughton side) just before the bridge - anyone here? -
Hi all - I need to get a new windscreen sorted. My insurance company use Autoglass or Autowindscreens. Any-one had any dealings with either of these companies (in the Norwich area). Alternatively - does any-one know of a good independant company that I could use instead. My excess is £60, and the ins co will pay the two above companies in full. If I get it done elsewhere, they'll stump up £125. Any ideas? Cheers Tim

Driving in this morning, had a car come towards me, just as it passed, it pinged a stone right into the corner of my windscreen. 'Just a little chip' I thought, 'That'll be ok!'. I then watched the crack grow and grow on the way into work. 4rse. I've now go to pee about with the insurance and get a new one. Just thought I'd try and get some sympathy!!

Ok - bit of a divvy question - how hot should the back end of my exhaust get. I've notice if I give it the berries on the way home, the exhaust smells a bit hot, and it also quite hot to the touch. Is this common, or do I have a running issue? When it's a bit smelly (!) there seems to be no noticeable difference in power etc. Any advice/your experiences would be helpful - ta! Timmaaah (94 VR6)

Hi y'all - 6 months ago, I finally found myself a nice VR6 'rado - I'd been thinking about getting a nice car for ages, and I'd always liked the styling of the 'rado. I've had a grin like a cheshire cat the last 6 months, hooning about - even managed to just about keep up with a '98 911 carrera s the other day - well, he couldn't shake me, let's just leave it at that!! - but now I'm getting a bit concerned. I thought I'd be able just to use the car as a, ....well, car - but after looking at other fine examples on this forum, I'm starting to worry about putting mileage on her. I do averageish mileage - but the dreaded '100k' will be coming up in about 12 months - look - it's 12 months away and I'm thinking about it now!! - sorry, I'm rambling - anyway, should I get a shed for day to day transport, and cherrish the 'rado (thinking all the time on my way to and from work, I wish I was in the 'rado'?) or should I not let it worry me, and rack up the mileage whilst p1ssing everyone off up and down the A47 my local 'A' road!!? Cor, I'm knackered after that! Please can you help me decide what I should do!!!
