  1. Sounds like a good idea! The only thing I'd say is that the journey time to Stealth vs the Phirm from where you are isn't massively different, especially once you've taken into account M25 cameras down to Surrey.. Still, worth seeing both of them, as you say. I'm sure a couple have, I was searching on the Forum for their work the other day and quite a few bits/recommendations came up. I actually went to see them a while ago because my gearbox mount is knackered and I'm now booked in on Monday for them to replace that and the front one with VTs. I would be getting more done but they're just fitting me in to do that because I wanted them done before ragging it up the strip at Inters! If you've got any questions you want me to ask them then let me know, the clutch/chains price sounds around about what he quoted me when I first spoke to them. You might need to budget for splitter repairs though once you see the track up to where they are! John
  2. If you don't mind can you let us know what it all adds up to when you do get round to doing it Jay? I seem to have a very similar list staring me in the face now! :D Cheers John
  3. Good on him, miserable old Alonso finally cracked under the pressure! :D Got to watch the race tomorrow now!
  4. All sounds ok to me! You're only 0.5 of an inch wider on the wheel with the same tyre width as standard so the same offset would hardly make a difference. If it did then the smallest of spacers would fix it.
  5. well i have a bowling ball shaped dent in the back of my peugeot and if that saves me £200 to get it fixed i'm definitely going to give it a go!
  6. does anyone know anything about TRW discs, I heard it was the new name for an established company but I forget which and don't know if that was accurate or not? cheers john
  7. I'm pretty sure Nikki (MI5 VW) rates the ZZ3s highly, didn't think they were still around though. Theres stuff about them in the definitive tyre thread.
  8. bad luck dude, had a feeling that might not be too cheap to fix.. i would say if you were thinking about an upgrade then dont be too sentimental about it getting scrapped, if you get to buy the salvage then someone with access to a bodyshop could probably get it back on the road anyway. guess it all depends on what the better financial option is for you but (if you're honest about it) its not a super rare colour/engine combination which needs u to lose out in order to save it. good luck with what you decide, but you did say you wanted a vr! :)
  9. rob, are you expecting her to reply to that or someone else?!! :D might have chosen a different word if i was hoping to get a reply directly?!
  10. well i added up my wishlist last night (usual engine/transmission/suspension mods for a vr) and it came to just over £7k's worth so might be taking my time over it!! I don't drive every day so luckily i wouldn't need another car inbetween. However, i did begin to think tonight that maybe I'd like to try another older VW to go with it to broaden my horizons! :D
  11. yes dom, saw that last night and wanted to post it up but couldn't see it on youtube (only out yesterday I think!). thought it was another honda one to start with - its just as good! lol, its just come on tv again as i write!

  14. "ah yes, mr makela auto tuning, please build me a red and white car from scratch. you should try to manufacture every part yourself. i have some scrap metal here that you might like to use for measurements.... i think it used to be a toyota??" amazing result but i think its a push to even call that a restoration, the only original bit looks to be the chassis and probably half of that was cut out and rewelded by the looks of it??! :)
  15. just get some from vw, i dont think they were that much more than the halfords ones anyway..
  16. good on ya Jim, thats such a bs excuse to get out of a request. i can't imagine even 20% of FOI requests are available at the click of a mouse, they should expect to do the tiniest bit of work otherwise the whole thing is a farce! actually, now that i've put it like that....
  17. Evening all, Am about to sell my 2nd car which I kept when I got the C so that I could do all the running around for my renovation project in it while keeping the C clean! However, even though thats done, theres always times when there'll be something to go in the boot that's going to mess it up and so I was thinking of getting a boot liner. Have seen a few places that do them ready made for various models of car (not the C though) or made to measure (pricey), so just wondered if anyone had a generic one that didn't look too pikey or a better quality one for another model that would still fit well? I'm looking for one with high back & sides, not just one that covers the boot floor. Cheers! John
  18. agreed, that is really poor luck you've had with the car recently.. they say bad things come in 3s though, time for an improvement? hope you get it sorted ok for not too much.
  19. the 7.5s are normally 35, so that or 37 sounds good :) standard 6.5 speedlines are 43 and you want these further out than them!

    Alloy wheels

yeah, most common is 205/40 on 17s.. its a bit stretched but means you dont often get rubbing unless you have a wild offset..
  21. £100 without tyres, £200 with i would think, I know it doesn't sound much but theres lots of them...
