Give me chance lol, all this having to be at work all day nonsense is getting in the way of messing with cars! Will have a go at the weekend, thanks for the help!
-
I'll give that a go at the weekend, I guess the problem could lie with the ECU too sending an incorrect signal. Thanks.

Nope - fresh plug comes out covered in petrol - this evaporates pretty quickly so I'm sure its petrol.
-
humm theres no oil consumption or blue smoke which would indicate this - I guess the compression test would reveal and a leak down test confirm that. Any ideas on how to test injectors?

I've got a baaad missfire. Car is a 1992 VR6 with a dizzy and was in good condition before, plenty of power and nicely coloured spark plugs. What a cylinder needs in order to fire: 1) Petrol and air 2) Spark 3) Compression Pulled the plugs (mostly black indicating rich running) and number 6 is wet with petrol so cylinder 6 is missfiring. Pulled lead number 6 and stuck a spare plug in it and its sparking when the engines on, no change in engine note. There are no head gasket symptoms like mayo, pressurised coolant, smelly coolant, deposits on plugs or anywhere. So the problem can only be: 1) injector stuck open (possible?) 2) Dodgy leads or plugs not allowing good enough spark 3) Blown headgasket just between 2 cylinders leading to poor compression. When its missing theres a really nasty knocking noise from the engine at idle that disappears at higher revs. This came and went with the missfire when the missfire was intermittent. Hope thats not a dying bottom end. I have a compression tester on the way and leads and plugs are easy to swap. How can I determine if the injector is stuck open? is this even possible? Any other possibilities?

Yes they are standard VR Corrado calipers (Lucas/Girling 54). The pass side has been fine on my car, no probs - its been painted black at some point. My story goes that I had a sticking drivers side front caliper so pulled it off to rebuild with a new seal kit before the MOT. I couldn't get the bleed nipple out so decided to get a 2nd hand one elsewhere to put on (As I don't have the tools to get it out here). I ended up buying a pair 2nd hand, rebuilding with new seals and repainting matching silver. So I'm left with a drivers side in bits and a stuck nipple, and a passenger side that theres nothing wrong with. PM me if interested and I'll let you know my payment details.

Doesn't sound good! Mine have only had the tops tinted I think

I had a big PITA getting one too for some reason (didn't think of going to VW, lol). I had a bleed nipple seize in my drivers side. They are fitted to early (pre 96?) Mk3 GTI's / VR6s and Corrado G60s as well as Corrado Vr6s. Eventually sourced a pair from an early Mk3 GTI and bought a seal kit (£16? from VW) to refurbish them. 96 onwards mk3 GTis and VR6s came with 288mm brakes, this is an easy and worthy upgrade if you need discs and pads at the same time. You need the discs, pads calipers, carriers, and flexy lines from a 288 car. I have a pair of 280 calipers for sale if you want them £25 posted. The passenger side has just been pulled off and is fine to use straight away. The drivers side is in bits (piston out) and will need a seal kit to go back together and use, as well as the stuck bleed nipple removing (not broken, just stuck!). Let me know if you're interested, Will.

Right have been off work with the dreaded lurgy this week, however today I felt up to swapping the bulbs over. My tinted lights look like this: The bulbs look like this: And heres the results: On the left of the car is the standard white bulb, the right the green coated bulb. The indicator is now definately orange rather the red before, however the indicator is nowhere near as bright. Not great but better as they are orange rather than red. I stand corrected about my colour theory! Maybe the fact the green filter cuts out the red light means they look less red, or heck I dunno....
-
Thats all on vagcat.com too. The corrado bentley manual is in full online in PDF format somewhere too, do a careful search of the vwvortex forums for it. Its password protected though.
-
I had a loose rear sensor cage. The error code related to sensor out of range or something like that, so its probably not that.
-
got my green bulbs, will try to try them out this week if I get time!
-
A standard (non airbag) MK3 golf one is exactly the same but without the leather rim. I have one in my MK2 and would probably stick one in the corrado if the leather ws going.
-
and with that I've volunteered to be the guinea pig. Ordered those ebay ones above. Will let everyone know how I get on next week!
-
I stand corrected then!

I would have thought red tint film is made up of many tiny opaque red dots covering the surface. Hence some light is blocked by the dots so with original bulbs you get a dim orange flash around the dots. Hence the brighter bulbs solving the problem. I think red tint spray puts a semi-transparent layer of red over the surface, making a red filter which blocks all wavelengths of light except red. Hence the theory above. My theory of using a brighter orange bulb will put out more light so the red tint filter is less succesful at filtering it. I may be completely wrong though. BTW i've not been able to find an account from anyone who has sprayed their lights with red tint spray then used green bulbs have made it flash orange successfully. if you look closely at a set of peugeot 206 lights you'll notice that up close they aren't completely red, theres clear segments to pass the light.
-
I think the only solution is the brute force method of a much brighter orange bulb, e.g. lots of orange LEDS.
-
Hummm I'm not convinced. Using subtractive colour theory the exact situation is: I am blocking red and blue wavelengths using a green filter (bulb) and then using a red filter (lense- which blocks blue and green wavelengths) which means I'm left with no light, i.e. black because i've filtered out every colour wavelength, nothing can get through. See: http://micro.magnet.fsu.edu/primer/java ... index.html - Drag the red filter over the "green light" image. I think people are getting confused with additive colour theory, in the situation where light from a bulb shining through a green filter is added to a bulb shining through a red filter would produce yellow light see - http://micro.magnet.fsu.edu/primer/java ... index.html - drag the red colour over the green to add them together to produce yellow.
-
Do green bulbs make the tinted red tinted lenses flash more orange then? Anyone done it? if so i'll get some. I wouldn't like to be in an accident where the blame lies with not seeing my indicators. These might fit: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0201917768

Going to be joining the BBS LM replica group buy, but I dunno which to go for 16 or 17 inch! I don't want to ruin the ride and I don't want rubbing arches. Anychance people can post pics of their C's with the size of the wheels (offset and width) also what size tyres they run? Cheers!
-
Yeah its not difficult i just did mine with the same symptoms. Easy if you don't manage to round off the front engine mount bolt and have to take the whole front end apart to get to it like I did :(

Putting my dash back together now and would like to know if these should be connected. Socket on the left found behind the glove box. A little way to the right 2 x plugs were dangling with the same colour wires Should one of the plugs be in that socket? were does the other plug go? Thanks.

No Mk3 Golf are different and won't fit. Passat are slightly different too but can be modded (see the wiki) to fit. The only ones that are a straight swap are from Seat Toledos with air con, however these have red illumination not green but the green light tube thing and filters can be swapped. I've been in the broken controls situation twice.....

bump for wires 4 and 5????!
