  1. Dash shell in: Platinum Black Beige Fascias/vents are always black
  2. Can anyone who has fitted these tell me what mounting bolts I need? The standard VW ones (35mm) look to be too long. Do Seat sell the correct length, or do I need to contact one of the firms selling these as upgrades? TIA
  3. Polyeurethane rear axle bushes on a VR - even Powerflex ones - lead to a significant increase in noise and vibration. Stick to genuine parts - they last a long time...
  4. Show cars are just that - not daily drivers...
  5. Fit new standard bushes, Boge gas shocks (from GSF) and enjoy...
  6. Nice one - the vents in the bonnet mean that no air will be getting down the back of the engine. SHould be nice and warm...
  7. There are also a load of speed nuts that hold it on. You need: 5x N 101 473 01 speed nut 5x N 015 846 1 5x19 panel screw 5x N 904 338 01 self locking bolt 1x 535 807 181 reinforcement plate. Hopefully the last of these and a good few of the speednuts are still attached to the bumper molding...
  8. VR6 Radiator is about twice the size of that on a 16v so it will overheat if you swap. The expansion tank is just that - it compensates for the change in volume of the cooling system/coolant as the temperature rises. Without it, the coolant hoses have to take the strain. The VR6 runs hot anyway and is expensive to fix. But if the way the engine bay looks is more important to you than how it runs or the costs of repairs (£1k++) why not? If it's a show car, you can always take it there on a trailer...
  9. On the East coast are you then???
  10. Gearbox: anything for a VR6 - much beefier as standard Rear engine: Rallye - with damper. Front: James Renshaw is currently experimenting with an early Mk2 fr0ont mount and some bits from a Powerflex rear axle kit...
  11. Some one at work is in the process of putting the V8 from a current shape Mustang into a Cosworth. Looking to crack 200mph.
  12. Maybe I should get the cam timing checked...
  13. 205bhp and 225lbft would be nice, but that was quite a few miles ago. That's a VSR, throttlebody, panel filter, Scorpion exhaust and AMD remap. If it is now possible to get 205-210 with just a remap, I'll be paying them a visit in the near future... Bring it on!!!
  14. Which model is it? If a VR6, think thermostat housing. Sunroof is shared with the Passat and Mk3 Golf. Engines shared with several other models. Doors rattling is the glass in the channel and/or the clip that's meant to hold it still having fallen off. Any Mk2 Golf still on eht road has been maintained by an enthusiast to last this long - rough ones used to be quite common. The C is currently in the age/mileage low point for reliability. They either get fixed or scrapped...
  15. Lie on the ground undet the front of the car in line with the inner wing and look up. You will see three bolts in a row - 2 really big ones and one fairly big one. Undo and remove the big ones only. Repeat on the other side. Having diremoved the indicators and fogs, grab hold of the bumper and pull. Under no circumstances undo the 2 fairly large bolts as the front cross-member - along with the front engine mount and engine will drop on the floor. Oh and DO NOT drive the car with the bumper removed.
  16. Yep. Seconded. The play you've noticed is the slider in the track that supports the locking lever. The small wheel on the rear of the locking lever also wears and can be replaced seperatly using nothing more complicated than a small straight-bladed screw driver. If the slider is worn, it's a roof out job to fix properly. Otherwise you can only use the roof in tilt mode and/or bodge it...
  17. The sensor fits round the ignition barrel. It can move and/or the connector can develop problems
  18. Shimming? The Passat moonroof looks to be a straight fit?
  19. £180 for a switch is still better than £1500 for the ABS unit. The relay for the ABS ecu is behind the glovebox.
  20. Will it go back down under it's own steam after you tilt it? If so, you need a new left locking segment (357 877 385) If it won't, you need a new left cable with guide (1h0 898 015A) and probably a new locking segment as well. The former can be replaced with the roof in place, the latter means you need to take the roof out (and some white grease to lube the cable before fitting it or you'll burn the motor out...)

They also invalidate your insurance - great if you never have an accident...
  22. It it's a grey one , I have the cloth cover for one in the garage. Easy (ish) DIY. £10 + postage?
  23. Large black box - does it have some really big wires attached to it? Sits at the front of the passenger side of the engine bay? It's the battery...
  24. 1. Take the lens off. 2. look down the sides of the reflector around where the adjusters attachand you will see the clips that hold it on. 3. Pop the clips...
