The G60 bumper grille had open slats at either side, whereas the later grille didn't I believe. Don't know if they're the same shape or not tho Edit: Actually not even sure about that... I just seem to remember reading that a while back... wow I'm helpful

There seems to be about 7 different shades of VW Tornado red too - when I was repainting my passenger door, I decided to give it a try myself, and found that when I went to buy a tin of paint from the local paint shop place, I had more choice than I was expecting. Ended up bringing the door into the shop with me so that I could compare with the tins

run away 'rado :( - another update - fat lady sings.
Shilakadaddy replied to chrishill's topic in General Car Chat
Nasty :( My corrado did the same thing one day (not as bad - no damage) but the handbrake did actually fail, and it drove down my drive into my mums 4x4 (luckily driving straight into the rather fat tyres which cusioned the blow). I'd been braking quite hard, so the disks were hot (and expanded), put the handbrake on, went inside... the disks then cooled down, contracted, mixed with it been a very windy day just to give the car a push, and off it went :? This is my theory anyway... -
Stange Fuel, temp and oil temp reading with headlights on
Shilakadaddy replied to ollster's topic in Engine Bay
I noticed this on mine a while ago... turning the lights on made the oil temp go up by 10 degrees! I just figured it was due to having 10 year old electrics :) -
Golf G60 Intercooler - Installation is finished!
Shilakadaddy replied to Shilakadaddy's topic in Engine Bay
Yeah it wasn't fun! I won't be doing that again in a hurry! DANG60, are you gonna come to the Section 5 meet in Yarm on Tuesday night? There's more info about it on the demon forum... would be cool to have 3 G60's there (there's another red one in S5). -
Golf G60 Intercooler - Installation is finished!
Shilakadaddy replied to Shilakadaddy's topic in Engine Bay
And I'm finished :D I'll do the write up over the next few days probably, I've taken loads of photos so it should cover everything that needs to be considered :) As for the difference its made... well its not night and day, but theres certainly a power increase! 3rd gear now feels like second, and the car pulls all the way to redline :) I was expecting more above 100mph - I thought thats when you'd really notice the difference, but supprisingly not... Either way I'm chuffed :D Plus I think theres more power to come if I take the car to G-Werks or Stealth to get it properly set up! I'm going to a rolling road day at the end of November, so we'll see how much power its making then. I've attached a couple of pictures just to show it finished. Note how the grille changes :( ...I was 'testing' the new performance last night, and the rieger grille didn't take too kindly to going 150mph and flew off!! Scared the crap out of me - large piece of plastic hitting my windscreen at 150mph!! I went back to see if it was still alive, but unfortunately its now in many pieces spread across the road :( Although I think it looks kinda cool with the old grille now  -
Golf G60 Intercooler - Installation is finished!
Shilakadaddy replied to Shilakadaddy's topic in Engine Bay
Heres some random photo's of the progress... We're currently making up some new brackets to mount the oil cooler where the old intercooler was, then will need to mount the radiator slightly further back, chop the main boost pipe down slightly, finish the bumper and cut the front fin off the intercooler... then I can start rebuilding :) -
Golf G60 Intercooler - Installation is finished!
Shilakadaddy replied to Shilakadaddy's topic in Engine Bay
15-20% would be around 30-40bhp on my car! I'm certainly not expecting that, but would be nice :D Hopefully the gasket will be here in the morning from zerocool. Just got the bolts from VW as they cost me about £2 :) As for the support bar, I think I'm just going to modify the old one, or make a new one - shouldn't be too difficult (famous last words :?) -
Golf G60 Intercooler - Installation is finished!
Shilakadaddy replied to Shilakadaddy's topic in Engine Bay
I've cut a big hole in the front bumper too, so hopefully everything will have a bit more air flow. Luckily cooling shouldn't be a problem this time of year anyway, but we'll see next summer... carpoid, yep it would seem that due to the corrado radiator not being as wide as the rallye one, the mounting points are different, and they don't quite fit together - very close tho! I've got all the pipework now, so I'll be able to position the intercooler where it has to go, and move the radiator back an inch or so Will post updates tomorrow evening to show the progress overall :) I have to admit I'm having fun doing this, just hope it does something! -
Golf G60 Intercooler - Installation is finished!

Well the pipework arrived from bar-tek, so I've started installing the intercooler now :D I'm taking pictures as I go so that a 'how to' guide can be written. However I've come across a problem that I wasn't expecting - I'm using the standard corrado radiator, and when lining the intercooler up using the standard mounting points on the cross member, it would seem the intercooler is fouling on the radiator :? Has anyone come across this problem before? Or should I be ignoring the standard mounting holes? Cheers, Chris -
Amazing!!!  I saw a couple of pictures of this on vortex, but never really appreciated it... stunning example 8) You got any specs of whats been done to it?
-
ah yes of course if the radiator moves, then the intercooler has to move... Is it worth doing if the pipework ran across the back of the radiator? My original plan was to make up something similar to this: I'd then cut a hole below the filter the same as the carbon cannister hole on the other side in order to get a cold air feed to the second filter. However if the pipework was getting heat soaked then I'm not sure the extra intake would be worthwhile if it was just sucking in hot air?

Two months after buying my golf g60 intercooler, I'm finally installing it! Now while I've got the front end off, and I'm messing around with radiators etc. I was thinking it would be cool to try install a second air inlet to the charger. I did some reading up on previous topics about this, and found that the general opinion was, to this properly the radiator needs to be moved down in order to get suffient cold air to the second inlet. After looking at where the radiators mounted, I was wondering how exactly you lower it? Its sat on the cross member which means it would either need moving forward so that it sits infront of the cross member. Or you actually cut into the cross member :? I know a couple of people have done this in the past, what did you do? Also I'll try take pictures of everything I do when installing the intercooler so a how-to can be written :) Cheers, Chris

What Oil Temp Does Your G60 Show At Motorway Speed?
Shilakadaddy replied to juloesG60's topic in Engine Bay
never usually more than 100... max I've seen with the oil cooler is 110, and before fitting it I saw 140! -
Cheers guys, I'll pop into B&Q and see what they have to offer. Otherwise I guess I'll have to shame myself by visiting the local "Triple Six" store

Finally ordered my intercooler pipework from Bar-Tek, so hopefully I'll have a front mount intercooler soon :D In conjunction with this I want to cut out my numberplate recess and put some black mesh in there. The R32 Mesh PhatVR6 used in his is exactly what I have in mind: Does anyone know where to get some R32 mesh, or similar looking black mesh? Cheers, Chris

G60 X-flow - Anyone completed one of these yet ?
Shilakadaddy replied to BigTartanJudge's topic in Engine Bay
For some reason I was imagining spiderman... but I don't think thats right  -
Standard unported charger too? This was the full spec of the engine: G60 1.8 8v. Supersprint Cat By-pass Hidden custom exhaust system Powerflex Exhaust Mounts BBR Chip RSR Charger Outlet Stage 4 Charger rebuild 71mm Motorsport Pulley Completely rebuilt Samco Boost Hoses 200BHP and 193lb/ft of Torque Ok so not quite just a chip and pulley. But it does illustrate that with very few mods the G60 can produce big power, as long as the engine is strong :)
-
As long as the engine is in good condition then you can make this kind of power with just these mods. Jay Renshaws old G60 engine made 200bhp with just a 70mm pulley and chip... all depends on the engine

Andy D bought one: http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?t=25071 He seems to rate it. Unfortunately I don't think anyone has ever done any actual tests to measure temperature drop etc. using different coolers. Anythings gonna be better than standard though, and in comparison to getting a custom cooler with pipework made up, the Pro Alloy/Jabbasport intercooler's not bad for the money. Not sure how it compares to the Golf G60 option though

hello, great site!....and even greater cars!
Shilakadaddy replied to kewlwhip's topic in Members Gallery
AS YOURS TOO... i didn't change too much stuff...just drivers seat, weichers polished cage, and a few other tidbits.. the interior is still my factory black leather...in flawless condition...thus i didn't change :) This is your car isn't it? The seats look lush! -
Looks nasty there, but the WRC version looks a whole load nicer in these pictures: http://www.tiscali.co.uk/events/2005/fr ... rs/large/7 http://www.tiscali.co.uk/events/2005/fr ... rs/large/8 Can't decide :?

Welcome to the site I saw this on Vortex a while ago too, get some shots of the interior posted up, as I thought it was one of nicest interiors I've seen in a Corrado 8) -
Ride height is always going to be a matter of opinion, I love the look of low VW's which is why I have the height of mine set at what it is, and intend to go lower! I can understand why some people class it as chav, but to be fair I don't think raising my car 20mm or so will make those people suddenly change their mind, you can't please everyone. Also I'm not a big fan of comprimise, I prefer having a focused direction to base everything I do around. If I'm going for performance, then it'll be on 15" wheels etc. Rather than having it not look quite how I want, but handling a bit better than if it did. Although if these factors work to favour each other, then bonus! Each to their own, as everyone always says  alan_edward, I think the ride looks great as it is. If you don't mind raising it slightly then do it, but if you're like me (and couldn't bare to do that), then try getting it setup properly (if its not already) and see if that helps things :)

Thats pretty impressive! I thought the G60 gearbox made it stupidly hard to get decent 0-60 times... I think I just need to learn how to launch!
