Call me old fashioned, but I like substance over style. I think those two Corrado's look silly on stretched tyres, perhaps I'm just not fashionable enough :( . I absolutely loved the Mk2 G60 on the front cover of last months PVW though, thought it was spot on in most respects.

The VR is a nice and simple head layout, so I would give it a go. Just don't do anything drastic and you'll be fine, but as you already know don't expect any huge gains. :D Did I say you'd lose bhp or was it KipVW? I don't remember saying it but that's quite right, you can make things worse but given the limited amount you can do to the VR head anyway, you'd have to be doing something prettey radical to mess it up. Just to make sure I would just smooth rough edges and surfaces off as per the guides and no more. Apparently the main way people mess up is when they increase the size of the inlet manifold ports too much when trying to match them up, the larger size actually reduces the air speed locally around it creating turbulence just before the inlet valve which isn't good, but I think it's just where people have gone a bit ott with the dremmel.... Take picces if you do it, I'm sure many on here would like to see the results.

Pete Griff's 'Rado R32 - (Not quite!) Alive at last! :D

Hey Pete, looking good there chap, those wheels look 8) perfect for winter wheels, so easy to clean! Toolbox is the dogs bollx, very nice :D Wish i had a tiled garage like that :( The best things are worth waiting for :D -
Yeah I've never found VW seats good for my back, unfortunate as apart from a Honda or two, and a 328 touring, oh any my Arosa....., that is all I've ever owned, my '69 bus had compfy seats though :D As for the throttle pedal, no CAN on that I THINK it's just a position sensor, so you'd just have to calibrate the output on the DTA, but that might well be bollocks I'm talking. Dave's fan bracket is very nice 8) here's my effort, not quite as nice but I'm still happy with it :D Cheers Chris :thumbleft: Now does anyone know if the back of a golf seat is the same, there is a Mk2 Gti in the local scrappie. If the cable has a natural bend in it, re-install it the other way round, so it wears against the other side, sometimes this works apparently although I've never tried it.

It's a real shame they are ditching the V6's just when some nice new models come out, seems they just cant get the body/engine combos in the right place at the right time !! The Sciriocco would have sold out if they had given it a 3.6, 4wd and launched 3 years ago.......But then no one would have bought an S3...
-
Cheers pete! I just need to find some old seats now... I reckon that pedal is going to be spot on, but i phoned up VW and there were five varients! Is there any way I can take you up on that offer and borrow your old mock up pedal when you've finished with it? Hope your car is going ok, haven't seen any updates recently, I take it that just means your playing the waiting game :D
-
yep, you need to do all round, sorry bud I should have said but just presumed.
-
If it's a Range Rover you're tailgating with full beams on it make fa difference, you're just illuminating the back of their tyres

Bored at work, so started to explore a seat idea I've had for a while. I don't find the standard 90's VW seats comfortable on my back at all, so i thought I'd take the chance to make a different one. Most people would just say put in factory Recaros, but I'm hoping this will be a little different, cheaper and still look OEM. I'm going to take off the existing frame back and strip the latching and hinging mechanism from it. Then transfer the parts to a new design, something like shown below (very unfinished!), the profile of the head restraint mimics the rear seat headrest profile. the end result might end up looking a bit like the sparco chrono without the harness holes. I'm then going to strip the base and sharpen the angles on the bolsters to give it a slightly more modern angular appearance as per Mk 5's etc. Then get them trimmed in leather. Doing it this way also means I have an oe seat base and adjustment. I don't want to chop up my perfectly good leather front seats though, anyone got some old ones up for grabs? Thoughts anyone?

The idea of having a heavy rotating mass is to give the engine some stored energy, this basically helps smooth out the engine and gives it some weight behind it giving the impression that the engine has more torque. It's also there to help with engine braking. So in effect a car with a flywheel will take longer to rev up but will also take longer to rev down- weather you are going up a hill or dropping the clutch. Going a bit lighter is fine, especially on a six cylinder car which is smoother and has more inertia than a four anyway. If you go too light you risk making the engine feel more lumpy, making it difficult to pull away and making the car harder to drive at a steady speed. It's a good mod, but I went too light on my G60 Mk1 and it was a pig to drive smoothly/pull away at lights so i should be wary.

So it's now pumping fuel but it's still not starting? You have a spark, so I don't think it's an immobilizer tbh, the factory one only cuts in after the car has started so it runs for a second first.
-
There not much good to be honest.
-
Also is it turning over on the starter motor ok or is it struggling with it?
-
Take off the fuel line on the left of the engine as you look at it (the supply has a little arrow on it going towards the engine) and get a pot for the petrol to go into and just make sure it's pumping petrol.
-
Hi Jack, first things to check, Is there a spark? Is there petrol coming through? What model is it?

My Corrado,Let the rebuild begin in!! Now with fire pics!

Or you can just plug in an LED compatable relay, you can get them from most LED online shops. -
Damn, engine conversion is out of the question then. :( I don't get it, it appears to be cheaper for me to insure myself on a highly modded group 19car for use every day worth about 6.5k (agreed) then for me to use a group 2 car worth £800 every day and the Corrado on limited mileage, how does that figure :cuckoo:
-
Always nice to see a VR being given a new lease of life :D The crankshaft was in good nick then? I suppose being a 6 pot they don't suffer ovality the same way 4's can?

What keeps your enthusiasm for corrado going?
KipVR replied to Jim Bowen's topic in General Car Chat
Borrow my Arosa 1.0 for a week, you'll soon be wanting to get back in the Corrado Karl :D The grass is always greener until you get there. -
I would use stainless ones on the ABS sensor ones just as cheap from RS as the ones from the stealers, it saves a whole load of rusty thread problems. Never use them in stressed situations though as they are not as strong, or into ally because they'll corrode the ally very fast.
-
Check it in the dark mate you'll see the coilpack terminals earthing out, you can see it easier by getting a squirty gun and spraying a mist of water over it.
-
There guarantee doesn't cover broken rat sh1ts though, a friend of mine took his unabused but broken one back to them and apparently it wasn't covered, it was a pro one too. :?

Got my radiator mounting bracket today, it's a laser cut part like Crazydave's niiiice ones, but not quite the same or as nice :( Basically on the back of the radiator there are nice mounting lugs for the bracket to mount onto, but on the front of the rad there is sweet fa except for the little slots shown in photo 2. The fan isn't very heavy so I think it will be fine. It would have also been nice to mount the fan directly onto the rad as Dave has, as the fan works better closer to the radiator, but I didn't think it would make an awful lot of difference so I just made sure the bracket was airtight around it like a cowling. Unfortunately the snow has slowed things down somewhat at the workshop, but hopefully I'll be getting some of these bits bolted on soon and I'll get some proper car photos up :D . Pete Griff being an absolute legend showed me the later style throttle pedal that hopefully I can use. The one I currently have is a hanging pedal, and the position it wants to be mounted in is right where the fusebox is. The later Mk5 pedal is hinged from the bottom as shown in the pic, so it looks like i'm now spending a little more money, typical as I'm a bit short this month as I've just paid the taxman....
