  1. Just seen the thread, I think it could possibly be a water pump problem, how many miles has it done? If the pump is not pumping enough water through, then there will be a big heat differential between the water in the rad where the fan switch is and the water at the top of the head where your temp sender is for the MAF.
  2. What was it? Sounded like the ecu needed re-calibrating - ie taking it for a good drive!!
  3. If your insurance find out that you fitted it yourself, your insurance will be invalidated... even if you're involved in an accident, they could get out of paying up due to this! :gag: I got nearly got stung by this when J-DUB was written off... fortunately the tracker I had fitted was additional to the cat1 alarm that I'd had fitted, but even so, it screwed up the agreed value, so I didn't get all the money I should have done for her... :brickwall: :( Any electronic security needs to be fitted by a certified installer to get the insurance approval.... no matter how badly it was installed... They won't know, however, if you've then re-done the installation to tidy it up and make it even more secure... :ignore: I haven't done yet, but I was going to get a Toad mobile installer I know to sign it off for me having checked it's all ok, but the existing certificate is pre signed by an approved installer- dodgy i know!! If it was like mine, it'll be strewn all over the place behind and under the glovebox, not securely mounted to anything but flapping about so that the wires can chaff on bits on the dash metal brackets, well done VAG :?
  4. That seems to happen a lot with Corrado's and r32 engines, mine included!! Get some pics up ASAP!!
  5. It's very nice to see some real effort going into a restoration and keeping it original, there are not many doing that on here including myself, top job sir :D
  6. I got a toad alarm from ebay with an insurance certificate and instructions on how to wire it up for £116, wasn't too difficult to do and personally I don't trust 99% of installers to do a good job, time is of prime concern to them and it often shows, even my oe dealer alarm was shockingly bad. :?
  7. Looks a bit high, suspect the top mount rubbers are a bit smaller to standard maybe? What's going on with all the nuts on the strut brace!!
  8. Why do you need to know the size? Can't you just buy a set of lowering springs for a Corrado if you're replacing all four, there is lots of choice out there, or am I missing something? They are standard shocks aren't they?
  9. I always 'look back' at my Corrado, I even walked into a lampost whilst doing it, my wife laughed uncontrollably for ten minutes :(
  10. Falken 452, very good for the money. Nice compfy ride and quiet, softer sidewall than the Toyo's etc so a bit more bite in the corners helping turn in a bit but you pay the tradeoff with less progression on the limit. Ultimately not as good as premium tyres but not far off and stunning for the cash. Not one for stretching.
  11. Very Nice 8) Are they still the 312's your running with? If so I reckon you've probably reduced your unsprung mass from standard even though you have bigger discs, so your ride will be more compy and the wheels will follow the road contours better, lightweight wheels too. I bet your ride comfort is good for the performance?
  12. The oil level has nothing to do with the ram sliding back down, If you are low on oil you would just have trouble getting it to full travel. :D It'll almost certainly be the the tap seat (the bit you turn to let the jack down) if there are no signs of oil. If it was the piston seal you would see leaky oil because it's a single action ram (pushed from one side) and so any excess oil would leak to the outside around the ram. Take it back to halfords they may offer an exchange or refurb kit you never know.
  13. There you are then chap, check your 12v supply, if it is ok and you need an ECU then you can either retain the immobiliser (for which I can help you out if you like) or you can ditch the immobiliser security and get an earlier coilpack ECU from somewhere else, I'm sure there are others on here who could help you out with that. :thumb right: Either way hope you get it sorted.
  14. The Bose stuff is usually wired differently with odd impedances etc, I'ts a bit of an ass, but you could take a mazda RX8 Bose spare wheel sub and put a different driver in it perhaps. You can sometimes pick them up on ebay for £20 ish.
  15. Yes the chips are in the ignition key, pop open the key and they are inside it. £60 for the ECU and key chips mate, Oh yeah that's a good point about the 12V supply, I thought the earlier ECU's were for the non coilpack type though
  16. The VR's have an immobilizer chip in the key which deactivates the immobilizer in the ECU, I'm not sure about the other models, just so happens I have a VR ECU with 2 key chips if you need one, I no longer have any use for it as I'm changing engines/ecu. It's a 94VR storm
  17. Volkswagen themselves, at least they have screens that fit properly, take it your going through your insurance? they'll have a bodyshop too.
  18. The Silver Lining  glad it's worked out so well!! My car had a rear shunt and rear panel got pushed in slightly where the VW badge is and it's never been right since, most people don't notice it but I know it's there and it bugs the hell out of me :(
  19. glad you sorted it chap :salute: sorry if I led you down the wrong path though
  20. F So true!! But I think that is because we've got older!! Last months issue was the first I'd bought in maybe five years and that's only because I needed phone numbers for some go faster bits and I liked the Mk2 on the cover. However I don't think it's the magazine that has changed it's the scene in general, it's never been particularly technical or informative magazine and to be honest I don't think the writing matters to them much, it's the photos that sell it to the younger target audience. I can remember when I used to buy it how badly written it was, and the ladies have always been there too, remember Bini's yellow Mk2 with an ugly bird ruining the pics? Some kid was taking the piss out of me (and his frustration about the forum) on ED38 for fixing my heater panel lights (becuse it always bugged me that they looked as if a bulb had gone), so I fixed it and had documented it as a thread on here. I just thought to myself that if I had been posting photos of a Corrado "pointlessly and time consumingly" dropped on air with 10" wide rims then he would have liked the thread  going by his signature. But that is what the scene is all about by the looks of it. I will be the first to admit that heater controls illumination isn't the most exiting thing to post about though, I don't take myself seriously so wasn't too bothered, but I did think "youth of today" and remembered how stupidly low I used to slam my Mk1 into the weeds when I was a teenager.....
  21. Very nice bit of kit you have there, just about completes the car now I think :D
