Jesus, where abouts do you live!!
-
Yeah, the extra friction makes the mechanism groan, I had exactly the same going on with mine, I damaged my master cylinder because I didn't get it changed soon enough and it was putting too much strain on that too. When I eventually put in a new clutch I couldn't believe how light it was, night and day difference. Gearbox fluid change is always a very good idea too as Supercharged says it really can help the gears slip through and prolong the bearing life.

How old is the clutch pal? The bush the release bearing slides on can get really sticky, usually this gets cleaned up when a new clutch goes on, so your clutch feels much lighter again.

Ending up with the tough decision, does he veer to the left and end up in the sea, or veer to the right and suffer the ferry destined for France.....

Oh yeah I've just looked a bit closer, all the paints cracked isn't it. :( Didn't you have your car painted by elite in Wilton a few years ago? Or else it was a similar one. I used Initial impact a couple of years ago, but I'm not massivly impressed with them. The best people who've ever done bodywork on my car are VW themselves mate, they did an absolutely top job on it. Not too expensive either. If you are prepared to travel, there is a bodyshop next to church green restoration just outside Gillingham nr Shaftsbury that are 100% spot on.

I don't think they were even on some of the very early VR's were they?
-
Why not replace the sheild? It should last another decade.....
-
Ahh :mad2: feel for you mate, but to look at the bright side at least it's a dentmaster job and not a respray though. That would have really made your day... Similar happened to my girlfriend, they politely left her wing mirror on her windscreen for her- having smashed it off, no note though...

Yes the block retains a lot of heat, and so the water inside it can get too hot and no longer cool the block evenly leading to distortion between the head and block which are made from different materials and therefore contract at different rates......, so they addad a pump to prevent this from happening.
-
Sorry if this is a silly question, but did you clean out all the filters on the ABS unit (the ones on the output to the lines), I recently restored an ABS unit and they were absolutely covered in gunk.

In all honesty I think they are great cars, if a little soulless. Not much else to choose from either, maybe an M coupe? loads better IMO.

You can get pin removal tools, RS do them I think, but they may not be cheap. But you can also get replacement pins from VW....

Yeah it's Richard Noons, behind what used to be a Murco Garage but is now a Caravan forecourt Go through Stockbridge and out on the other side towards Salisbury. There a nice bunch there. you turn right by the caravan place and it's half a mile on the rhs. Yes please I do want the seats!! Just finished all the building work last weekend so I now have some space :D
-
You can have mine mate, I'll be taking them off soon, I'll post them up to you. Edit that, you said needed not need :D
-
Cheers Toad, ah so it's quite low down then, I think I'll just bolt the Mk3 one on then, it looks easy enough to do, the scrappie outside Stockbridge has got one, so I'll just nip down there on friday....Still have to pick those seats up mate, are you about on Friday?

For my engine conversion I need to move the PAS and washer bottle from their current location in order to mount the airbox which mounts on that side. I've relocated the washer bottle to the other side and that's all neat and tidy, but I need to do the PAS bottle too, I have to keep the area between where the washer bottle currently sits and the engine free as it's all taken up by the airbox. I've looked on VAGCAT and it shows two different types of PAS bottles being used. One is square and the round; I've got the round type. Can anyone post me a pic of what the square one loks like and where it sits in the bay? My other option is a Mk3 Gti one which mounts to the battery tray, but I would prefer to keep it Corrado if at all possibe :D

Nice!! Shall I ask Jon about doing corners and gyros sometime soon? It all looks the business Pete, including the toolchest, you must be chuffed :D -
They probably didn't have many options.....
-
To be honest it's probably cheaper to buy some from RS, or a selection box maybe? Corrosion only if they are ally and stainless together really, what is the shield made from? http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/sear ... 4294955445

What's the best way to remove the engine+drive train?
KipVR replied to Mawrick's topic in Engine Bay
Depends what sort of gear you have really, I think the majority of people doing it at home just pull it out having taken the slam panel and bumper off, it only takes half an our or so to get them off and makes access much easier. -
I may be behind the times a little here but I've only just discovered the Spotify online choose you own radio website, how effing brilliant is that? You can't download but the qualitly's very good and if you have a sound recorder....... :D Oh and it's all free!!!
