  1. I've pulled my headlight switch apart and would rather change the filters than solder in leds, the filter on the switch symbol is easy enough but how do you colour the centre prism type thing? And why are some green and some orange? Are you guys colouring the centre or just the backlighting for the symbols?
  2. Is the switch from another country? It sounds like a safety thing, a bit like volvo's always having their sidelights on. I've got an italian heated rear window switch and a german one both work as there's only 1 function, but that may be whats up with the headlights. Passat switches have the dimmer mounted horizontally, rather than vertically like on C, so it isn't a Passat one.
  3. Took it to Autoglass for them to confirm it needs a new screen  Covered on insurance but i've heard bad things on here about the glass monkeys - so its on hold till after Run to the Sun.
  4. I don't reckon they were trying to rip anyone off giving advisory notice - they could have easily ripped the previous owner off there and then and replaced it as part of the MOT. Advisory notice means it needs sorting soon - they aren't forcing you to take it back to them though. Obviously MOT's have to be done at a garage, but otherwise general maintainence can be done by you. Go on and get your hands dirty mate, you'll feel better for it.
  5. Looks SCHWEET, clear indicators and fogs sit well with white no. plate, wouldn't go yellow with those. Edit - changed my mind, I'd tint 'em really lightly and get one of those off white no. plates - still looks SCHWEET though

    Insurance

I used to be with Highway and they reduced the policy by about £50 after the first year - but my overall cost went up by about £20 due to an increase in administration charges?! Advanced motorist thing may be worth doing if it costs less to do than the amount you'll save on your insurance by doing it. If you've been driving for a year or so you probably have loads of bad driving habits (1 hand on steering wheel etc) - thats why its best to do it just after you've passed. If you have a garage put it down as being in there overnight, even if its full of junk - don't say its garaged if you don't have 1 though! Churchill are quite good IMO
  7. Re-instate dash mounted machine guns!!
  8. I threw a mini at hardknott pass and it killed it, a 4x4 came down the hill, I had to pull off onto the side and managed to strip the splines off the steering column where it mounts to the rack!! I'm going back up this summer, might try it in the C, curious about whats over the other side.
  9. As far as I know early pulls are the same as Mk2 golfs and late are the same as Mk3 golfs. Venom does both types. I guess late pulls are different to mk3 golf ones then??
  10. If your car is fitted with a cat from standard you can fit the cat back system, but as Dr Forinor said its only legal requirement for cars from 1993 onwards, so can be removed from pre '93 cars. Take it off and it should free up a couple of bhp, plus it'll only rot and then you'll have to either fork out for a new one or fit a bypass pipe. The cat back system is exactly that, from the cat backwards - the bypass pipe is the same length as the cat and fits where the cat would be, completely replacing it.
  11. Both early and late style chrome versions are available from Venom - £20 a pair.
  12. Insurance depends on area, so it'll be more expensive in a city than in the middle of nowhere. I'm moving to where you live!!
  13. Hey up grimmy, I was in the same situation as you, wanted a C, had a car to sell and insurance coming up. I bought the C and tidied it up whilst insurance on old car ran out. I bought a 1.8, I don't know much about the 2.0, but insurance was loads more for a G60, and I didn't even bother getting a quote for a VR6. G60 was about £1200 to insure I'm 22 with 4 years NCB, 16v is £550. I'd look for one with a decent Cat 1 alarm already fitted to keep insurance down if your on a budget, plus with 1.8's you can easily pic up a cheap mk2 16v gti if anything goes bad.

    Roof Trim

My sunroof seal was a bit green, I gave it a good scrub with a toothbrush when I washed it and the green crap came away. Worth a go. I think new seals are about £45.
  15. They look great - and good quality too. I got some audi handles and they're hollow when you look at the back, plus they don't fit
  16. Just found these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/INTERIOR-CHROME-ALLOY-DOOR-PULLS-HANDLE-GOLF-2-JETTA-VW_W0QQitemZ4634403354QQcategoryZ9889QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem They do both early and late style pulls, 'Buy it now' £14.99 with £8.00 postage, but each additional item is only £1.50 postage. :thumbleft: Just done some maths and if 10 people buy then it'll work out at £17.15 per set.
  17. Are they like the ones on aircooled beetles? They fit MK1 golfs, are MK2/Early C pulls the same? - just looked on Egay and they're not the same design but I guess the ribbed ones 'Niels' can get will look a bit like these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mk1-Golf-Chrome-Door-Pulls-Beetle-GTI-Jetta-Scirocco_W0QQitemZ4634381634QQcategoryZ9889QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

    Wood Dash

Could look quite good, when I first though about it I thought of shitty walnut veneer Rover style, but if you use a dark wood, and only to detail certain areas it may just work. See http://www.porsche.com/usa/models/boxster/boxster/indetail/comfort/ and click on Makassar Dark wood interior.
  19. Check out http://www.dubmeister.co.uk under show plates. You can design your own, see what it looks like and there's a FAQ section about legality. Rapid delivery too.
  20. Mine started off in Stockport, then up to Scotland for a stint with 'Coullstar' then down to York with 'Tom B' and now in Leeds. Its becoming a forum whore. :)
  21. Otherwise use 'araldite'. Rock solid bond - just mind yer fingers :)
  22. Mini's on the Corrado forum?? My bro's just sold on his mini minus - no seams, all fibreglass and approx 5 inches shorter than standard (engine stuck out of bonnet!). The guy who bought its gunna spaceframe it and stick a hyabusa turbo engine in the back, he reckons he's contending for fastest mini in UK, reg numbers OGY 9**K.......tax exempt too. I've got a mini pickup, hope to fit either Vauxhall lump upfront or R1 in back, mid resto but funds are lacking since I got the C!
  23. I'm having the same problem too, I've checked the bulbs and fuses and they are all fine, it's got an uprated loom and all the connections are fine too, I'm not sure if one of the relays on the uprated section has failed, would this cause this? Where is the standard relay i.e on a car without uprated loom?
  24. Check the TT replicas out  http://www.austin-rover.co.uk/images/banhammetro_01.jpg http://www.than.org/

    Recaro's

Yeah they are Rover seats, from an 820 I think. I once bought a full 820 recaro interior, with same front seats for £25, stupidly thought I'd get them in a mini. They have lumbar support in the backrests - you can tell they're from a coffin dodgers car!
