brake pedal goes to floor after fitting mk4 calipers
Henny replied to steveo29's topic in Drivetrain
steveo29, do you have ABS? -
it's a standard shelf that someone's added an aftermarket sunblind to the top of...

OK, that's good to know... in that case it sounds to me like your starter motor is struggling... clean up all of the contacts on it with some sandpaper (with the battery disconnected!!!) and clean up the engine earth strap too... If that's no better, then it may be time to change the starter motor...

to the left of the inlet manifold on the bulkhead there's 3 pipes from the fuel tank. The middle one is the breather so can be left alone, but the other 2 then go to the FPR and the injector fuel rail via rubber pipes... I'd lay good odds that one (or both) of those pipes have cracked or are leaking... Get 'em changed ASAP so you don't end up with a fireball... :|
-
the bolt to the right IS the temp sensor... the connector has snapped off, they're a right bugger for it... New temp sensor time... :|
-
G60 Bob, you really need a decent strobe... I got a decent digital one off ebay a while back for about £40 delivered! 8) I wanted a Snap-on one, but could never seem to catch the auctions at the right time... :(
-
just go into VW and ask 'em for it by the description above... it's a doddle to find in ETKA so any parts muppet will be able to get you a price/order one... 8) Don't forget to ask for a "corrado forum" discount though... it's always worth a try... ;)

next time it does it, disconnect the blue plug on the 5th injector on the end of the manifold and THEN try starting her again... sounds to me like this could be leaking and over-fuelling/flooding the engine slightly when hot... If it's better with the plug disconnected, then you've found your problem, if it's not, then at least you've eliminated it from the equation... 8)

eye, come along Mark, there's a fair old mob of us going by the sounds of things... 8)

little scary? I nearly shat myself the first time the previous owner made it do it... That's what finally killed my van off... the shock to the chassis eventually caused most of the slightly rusty box sections to crumble... :( I stripped it and sold it for spares and made a tidy profit though! 8)

either stick a K&N in there, or use a decent standard paper one... You won't gain a lot from the K&N other than the slightly smug knowledge that you can pretty much ignore it for a year after fitting it... ;) 8)

dinkus, OK, so you got me on the cornering thing... that's the same with all type 1 and 2 VWs...  The reason I bought it was 'cos the previous owner took me out in it, made it wheeley and then managed to get the back end out around a roundabout and then go around the second roundabout (double roundabout setup thing... :| ) pretty much backwards... Ah... I was young and impressionable back then... Now I take a car that DOES handle well and make it go faster than it was supposed to!

ah, forgot about it being a VR... The edit to my previous post was thinking about a G60, sorry...
-
Remember everyone, keep your eyes peeled at Inters this weekend for any bits which could be off this car... :|
-
PeteJ, it was painted on... ;)

kevhaywire, your post still holds true though... the hub on a VW is bigger than the hole in the center of a Scooby wheel unless it's fitted with spiggot rings as standard... Adaptors would have to be at least 15mm thick to be able to have enough "meat" on 'em to put a spiggot shaft in, and even then, it may catch on the central hub nut on the Corrado... :| With an offset of 50, you should be able to put 20mm spacer/adaptors in and get away with it fairly safely... You'll just need some custom ones made... 8)

Ah, but your arguement was going along the lines of "it's aircooled and therfore crappy..." Just 'cos it's aircooled, doesn't make it crappy... My Bay van was VERY cool... It was MUCH lower than your Corrado was, had a Porsche engine in it, did a 15.8second 1/4 mile AND PULLED WHEELEYS!  Just 'cos it's not a splitty, don't mean that they can't be cool... ;)
-
so the Porsche 911 was crappy?
-
dinkus, the bay window type2s were air cooled too.... they even used the same engine as the split screen vans... [/ex-type2 bay window owner]

Um, not got a video of my 0-60, but tomorrow I can post up a pic of my phone displaying the text message my car's GPS tracker sent me on the way to work yesterday... 8) I was getting annoyed with a BMW away from a set of lights and managed to do 0-60 in 8.68 seconds :D 8) That's a standard G60 engine with a Stage 4 Jabba charger on (AFAIK) a standard pulley and chip... 8)

see here... I've got a Rieger-tek one with red illumination... I know it sound kinda chav-esque, but it's not... it's rather classy in real life and isn't tacky... 8)

I've recently spoken to a guy who owns a breakers yard who it turns out I used to know a while back... :) he's now on the lookout for a written off 2.0 TDI VW for me which he'll do me a decent price on... ;) 8)
-
The hardest part is the wiring... the rest of it should just bolt straight in as the block is basically the same as the rest of VWs 4 cylinder lumps... 8) A tuner I was speaking to about doing this conversion to a Corrado reckons that if you use a 130PD as a basis for the conversion, a decent remap and a couple of cheap mods should see around 180bhp and 280Lb/Ft!  Well upto VR6 scaring figures with around 50mpg too!

ditto above...
