Feck me Riley, that is just polished! 8) 8) Nice one... 8)

conrod bolts push into the conrod... they've got a ribbed edge to them so they won't turn... ;) Shiney alloy shavings sounds like someone's had a head skimmed and hasn't blown out the oilways properly when they re-fitted the head... I can't think of a copper washer within the engine which could have got into the sump... only thing I can think of is that some muppet dropped it in while doing a head gasket...
-
knackered relay I'd bet... ;)
-
bristolbaron, just take 'em off... I gave up and got aftermarket door pods, it was easier!
-
Or at least, if you do, keep the trigger end up by the hinge, not by the catch...
-
Ain't no bloody use in the boot mate... get it in the cabin where you're sat... Both of my Corrados have small powder extinguishers in them close to hand and I'm about to pick up a BIG powder one too which should at least give me time to rescue a few bits out of the car before it goes completely should the worst ever happen... :|

spookey! :|
-
as long as you line it up properly it goes back in on trolley jacks as easily as it came out... you only have to fart about with positioning the drive shafts a little, but you have to do that when you drop an engine in from above anyway... :|
-
'Lo Simon... don't think you'd have seen my reply in Dubforce as the thread's been moved to the mod's area, but Hello again anyway! ;)

saysomestuff, I bought one off ebay for £46 that I no longer need... Interested?
-
Just to confirm ALL corrados were cable shift when they left the factory... 8)

fire&iceG60, is your G60 golf a genuine left hand drive import, or did it start life as a normal RHD golf and get G60'd afterwards? Reason I ask is that G60 Golfs don't have a servo, they use the ABS pump to do the same function... :| It IS possible to remove the ABS pump on a LHD golf, but you'd need a new master cylinder, servo and pipework to the 4 corners of the car to do it... Have a word with G-man as I'm pretty certain he did this to Gav's old Golf G60... ;)

daves16v makes 'em... ;)

don't believe the fuse box cover... ;) check ALL the fuses as I seem to remember that the one labeled for the horn is actually only for the relay...
-
I've done it the front panel off way several times... I considered using the engine hoist way, but decided that it's MUCH quicker to remove the front panel and bumper and is much cheaper to put the engine/box onto a pair of trolley jacks and some wood than to get hold of an engine hoist... ;)

disconnect the battery overnight, reconnect it in the morning and see if the battery has held it's charge, that'll rule that one out...
-
it's actually to prevent the fuel evaporating in the lines which will stop the car from starting again when the engine's hot, not to prevent the fuel from catching... ;) The rest was spot on though... 8)

billinjahg60, check yer fuses mate! IIRC The fuse is AFTER the relay so the relay will still click even if the fuse has gone... ;)

yup, been there, seen that, tasted it too... :pukeright: At one point I could identify unleaded, 4star, diesel, super-unleaded, brake fluid and hydraulic fluid just by taste... :? I'm sooooo glad I decided to go to university and get a degree instead of becoming a mechanic!

I've had the manifold fitted to the car for over a year now... although she got written off late October... :( No problems with it during that time though...8) The 4:1 will have longer tubes on it which is why it'll make better torque... it's the length of the tubes that makes the difference (I have no idea why, I just know that's how it works to a point... :| ) The hi-flow will help with torque, just not quite to the same level as a 4:1 will... The best bit about the hi-flow down pipe is that it retains some of the flexibility of the original so won't crack which is something that 4:1 pipes tend to suffer from unless you use VERY stiff engine mounts... :|
-
only worth it if you have a chip which requires it... otherwise you'll just screw your fuelling up and run rich... :|
-
can't comment on sound either as I changed A LOT of the engine... including toothed belt drive for the charger which kinda drowns out any other noises!  4:1 is manifold and pipes all in one (normally) which can increase torque due to the lenghts of the headers before they all join together... The G60 has a 2 output manifold as standard and then the downpipe converts it to a single output, so is basically a 4:2:1 system... To get any real advantage out of a high flow downpipe you REALLY need to get the exhaust manifold ported and flowed too...

it's probably worth actually buying a NEW one to replace the second hand one with... If it's a case of a few pence and a couple of minutes work to swap it for a new one, then in my eyes, it's worth it for the peace of mind... ;)

keep the next reply clean please... ;)

Andi, did you post that one? If you did, I've got it on my PC at home... 8)
